Abstract

Limbah tempurung nyamplung dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai arang aktif untuk bahan penyerap gas dan cairan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik arang aktif tempurung biji nyamplung. Tempurung nyamplung diarangkan, kemudian direndam dalam larutan H3PO4 pada konsentrasi 0%, 5% dan 10% selama 24 jam. Selanjutnya diaktivasi dalam retort pada suhu 700°C dan 800°C selama 60 dan 120 menit. Kualitas arang aktif tempurung nyamplung diuji menggunakan SNI 06-3730-1995. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas arang aktif tempurung nyamplung terbaik diperoleh pada aktivasi perendaman H3PO4 10% pada temperatur 700°C selama 120 menit. Pada kondisi tersebut diperoleh rendemen sebesar 52%, kadar air 8,25%, kadar zat terbang 7,41%, kadar abu 4,27%, kadar karbon terikat 88,32%, daya serap iod 839,11 mg/g dan daya serap benzena 13,65%.

Abstract

The aim of this investigation is to create a prediction model on the potentiality of supplying merchant wood products. The investigation was carried out in the province of Riau Four Sawmills and two plywood industries were selected for this study.The annual data concerning production factors (input factors) such as material input (x1), the price of raw material (x2), The cost of additive matters/auxiliaries (x3), the designed production capacities (x4), and the price per unit product (x5) were collected. In addition, their annual production (Y) was also recorded.The prediction model is intended to interpret the relationship between production factors and their actual production per annum by applying multiple regression analysis. The prediction models for Sawmill products and plywood products are presented respectively as follow :Y = 7.2140 + 0.5717 x1 – 0.1323 x2 – 0.1787 x3 + 0.0078 x4 + 0.2188 x5, andY = 10.1774 + 2.1724 x1 – 0.6431 x2 + 0.0071 x3 + 0.6182 x4 + 0.7128 x5.Both models show a considerable high of confidence (P = 0.95).

Abstract

Penelitian terdahulu menunjukkan bahwa komponen senyawa dalam lignin dan tanin dapat dibuat kopolimer dengan resorsinol dan formaldehida membentuk resin lignin dan tanin formaldehida untuk produksi kayu lamina eksterior.Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui kualitas lignin resorsinol formaldehida dan tanin resorsinol formaldehida dalam pembuatan bilah sambung jari dari lima jenis kayu untuk bangunan perkapalan, yaitu: tempeas (Teysmanniodendron sympliciodes Kosterm), waru (Hibiscus tiliaceus L), bunyo (Trioma malaccensis Hook F.), gambir (Trigonopheura malayana Hook F.), dan rasamala (Altingia exelsa Noronha) terhadap sifat mekanisnya.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak dijumpai adanya delaminasi bilah sambung jari pada kelima jenis kayu. Sifat mekanis dari bilah sambung jari dipengaruhi secara nyata oleh jenis kayu, jenis perekat dan interaksi kedua faktor tersebut.

Abstract

Tujuan  penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kualitas pupuk organik dari limbah padat industri pulp, dalam rangka meningkatkan nilai tambah limbah. Penelitian pembuatan pupuk organik dilakukan selama dua bulan.  Untuk mempercepat proses  pengomposan digunakan aktivator hayati dengan dosis 10%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas pupuk organik limbah padat industri  pulp  masih rendah terutama unsur hara makro seperti P 0,47 - 0,65%;   Ca 0,34 - 0,45%;   K 0,09 - 0,22%;   Mg 0,07 - 0,31 % dan   0,38  - 0,85%.Untuk  meningkatkan kualitas   pupuk  organik tersebut  telah dilakukan  pencampuran  dengan bahan organik seperti  pupuk kandang merk KARYANA, pupuk organik merk SUKOIJO, pupuk semi organik ZEOSUPER dan pupuk semi organik ZEOREA. Dari hasil pencampuran dapat diketahui bahwa terjadi peningkatan unsur  hara NPK. Perbandingan 10  bagian pupuk organik sludge:  1  bagian ZEOREA, dapat meningkatkan kadar N, P dan K menjadi  4,72%; 2,90% dan 4,09%.

Abstract

The study  of  tirfor  and lever block  effectiveness in teak felling was conducted at the Perum Perhutani  (The Forest State  Corporation) Unit I Central Java on June 1982 and July  1983. Both felling equipments were used cut the press down  to the desired directions.The purpose  of  the  study  is to find  out  the effects  of tirfor and lever block  on log damager in felling actives.  The study  was carried out  in a three  locations  with  different slopes  i.e. 0 -10% and 11 – 30%.The result  indicates  that on  the  11 - 30% slope,  the  tirfor  reduces 5.25%  log damages compared  with  that of the lever block.  It is concluded that in sloped areas tirfor is more efective  then lever block.

Abstract

The  results  of  laboratory  test of wood-wool   board properties  manufactured  from  11 individual  wood  species obtained from  South  Sumatra  and  West Java are reported  in this paper. The tests comprising board density, moisture content, thickness reduction due to  compression   and  bending  strength.The study  reveals that average yield  of  wood-wool is 315 kg per cubic  meter  of log input. The physical and mechanical properties   of   wood-wool   board  from  five  wood  species. mineralized   with  CaCl2  solution   were  in conformity with  the DIN  11.01  standard.  However,  only  four  wood  species  mineralized  with  Ca(OH)2 suspension  met  the standard  requirements.

Abstract

Suatu percobaan  impregnasi tiga jenis  kayu daun lebar Indonesia dengan bahan pelumas sudah dilaksanakan.  Tujuannya adalah untuk menghasilkan kayu yang memiliki sifat mendekati kayu pok  (Guajacum spp.):   berat jenis  tinggi dan kandungan resin/pelumas tinggi,  cocok untuk penyangga poros baling-baling kapal laut.Tiga jenis  kayu yang diuji yaitu Elateriospermum tapos Bl., Dialium platysepalum  Backer, dan Xanthophyllum stipitatum Benn.  Pemilihan jenis  didasarkan pada hipotesis  bahwa jenis kayu ini mudah diimpregnasi karena mempunyai parenkim pita berjarak rapat.lmpregnasi  dilakukan dengan 4 jenis minyak yaitu: minyak jarak,  minyak kemiri,  minyak laka dan  asam  oleat.   Konsentrasi  minyak yang  digunakan  adalah  3%  dalam  alkohol  lalu diimpregnasikan ke dalam kayu dengan bagan berikut:  vakum awal 500 mmHg selama 15 menit, tekanan hidraulik 10 atm selama 60 menit, dan vakum akhir 500 mmHg seiama 15 menit. Absorpsi  larutan dapat mencapai  62,7% berat kayu pada Elateriospermum, 20,7%   pada Dialium dan 18, 7%  pada kayu Xanthophyllum.   Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ketiga kayu yang dicoba termasuk sedang-sukar diimpregnasi. Karena iiu disarankan untuk dilakukan percobaan lebih lanjut  dengan  menggunakan  kadar pelumas  yang  lebih tinggi dan jangka waktu tekan yang lebih lama.  Mungkin diperlukan pemanasan pada waktu proses untuk menurunkan kekentalan pelumas yang digunakan.

Abstract

Data collected consist of the diameters and lengths of wood used in railroad construction in swamp forests of ten forest companies in Sumatera, and six in Kalimantan. Railroads in the swamp forests are different in construction compared to those in the teak forests, generally requiring four layers of sleepers.  This, of course, is due to the extremely low bearing capacity of the soil little is known about the problems of this type of railroad construction, primarily with regard to the quantity of wood required.The steps of collecting data were as follow:Selecting suitable forest companies in Sumatera and in Kalimantan to be surveyed.In each forest area 20 samples of 50 m rail track sections were drawn systematically.Diameters and lengths of logs within the sections were measured according to layers.The average amount of wood used in swamp forests railroad in Sumatera and Kalimantan are respectively 142 m3/km and 188 m3/km. The volume of wood used in every km of railroad between regions are significantly different, and those among forest companies very significantly.Wood used in every km of railroad construction and for layer of sleepers vary. The average of wood used for railroad construction of the 1st and 2nd layer in Sumatera are respectively 55 m3  /km and 87 m3/km.  Those in Kalimantan consist of four layers of sleepers, i.e.:   Ist, 2nd,  3rd and 4th layer from the  top-down,  averaging 32 m3lkm, 64 m3/km, 74 m3/km and 18 m3/km of wood used per layer respectively.

Abstract

Macadamia hildebrandii  van Steen,  commonly   known  as makadamia,  belongs to the family  Proteaceae.   Until recently,   this  wood  has not  been  widely  used and only grown sporadically  in several places in Indonesia  mainly  used for non commercial  purposes.   The  wood  material  used  in the.  experiment was obtained  from  Sipangan Bolon,   North  Sumatra  for both  pulping   trials and  chemical  analyses.The  chemical  constituents   of  the  wood  are typically  of  those  tropical  wood  containing  46.6%  cellulose, 24.6% of lignin, and  relatively  low  14.4% pentosan. The average specific gravity  was 0.61 and the fibre length of  1.76 mm. The pulping  experiment was  conducted   in laboratory  digester employing 20% active alkali, 170°C  maximum temperature wich was maintained  for 120 minutes.  The cooking  sulfidity   was made at 2 levels i.e. 25%  and 30%.The makadamia pulp  yield  ranged from  32.4 to 34. 7% with  low Permangante  number  2.15   to 2. 64. The pulp  strength was fair and comparable  to those of the commercial  types.  By adding of anthraquinone   catalyst  at 0,1percent  by weight of the  wood  material  to cooking,   a  significant  improvement   in pulp  strength   was commenced. This is particular noticed when using 25% sulfidity  during the pulping.

Abstract

The purpose of the experiment is to study intercrop planting technique of soybean (var. Willis) on acidic soil among Acacia mangium Willd at HTI Mandiangin, Pekan Baru - Riau.Total area of the experiment covers 0.5 ha, divided into 5 treatment plots of 1000 m2 each. Treatments used in the experiment were: control, lime, lime + anorganic fertilizer, compost and compost + anorganic fertilizer. :Lime. was applied in the order of 2 ton/ha, compost 20 ton/ha and 60 kg urea, 45 kg TSP, 45 kg KCl for 2 period. Rhizogin was used fis biofertilizer to promote growth while Azordin 15 WSC and Dithane M 45 were used as pesticides.The resulls of the experiment for plot 1 (control) showed that the productions of biomass was 383.6 kg/ha, wet pod was 645.4kg/ha, dry pod was 466.7 kg/ha soybean was 275.7 kg/ha, average number of root nodule was 4 and plant heigt was 25.90 cm.Plot ll (acidic soil + lime): the productions of biomass was. 745.8 kg/ha, wet pod was 792 kg/ha, dry pod was 578.6 kg/ha, soybean was 436.5 kg/ha, the number of root nodule was 16 and plant height was 42.38 cm.Plot III (acidic soil +lime + anorganic fenilizer), the productions off biomass was 1331 kg/ha,.wet pod was 1067 kg/ha, dry pod was 805.8 kg/ha, soybean was 525.8kg/ha, the number of root nodule was 17 and plant height was 44.76 cm.Plot IV (acidic soil + compost) : the productions of biomass was 1113.2 kg/ha, wet pod was 1364 kg/ha, dry pod was 963.9kg/ha, soybean was 648 kg/ha, the number of root nodule was 22 and plant height was 38.55 cm.Plot V.(acidic soit+Compost+ anorganic fertilizer): the productions of biomass was 1573 kg/ha, wet pod was 2406.6 kg/ha, dry pod was 1531 kg/ha, soybean was 1060.4 kg/ha, the number of root nodule was 24 and plant height was 55.88 cm.The experiment proved that the range from the highest lo the lowest soybean production was given by compost + anorganic fertilizer(384 %),followed by compost (235%), lime + anorganic fertilizer (190 %), lime (125 %) and control (100 %). It is proved that intercrop planting promote the growth of Acacia mangium Willd i.e: compost + anorganic fertilizer (215 %), lime + anarganic fertilizer (173 %), compost (148 %), lime (163 %) and control (100 %).It is evident that compost has an important role in increasing pH or conducting more nutrients uptake, reduction of A1 toxiclty and eliminating nutrient leaching.
