Abstract

Smart devices are one of the most common communication tools used by all ages. This is due to the ease of access that can be reached via a smart device, and also their interesting features. The features contained in the device are not only for learning but also for entertainment. The advantage of the device for early childhood is as a learning medium, but if the device is overused the child becomes less stimulated psychosocially and motorically. These skills are important to be honed at an early age. That is why parents need to do parental mediation to reduce excessive exposure to the use of devices in early childhood. For working mothers, mentoring children in using devices will be more difficult because they have less time with children. However, it doesn’t mean that assistance provided by non-working mothers will be better because the amount of their activity. This study aims to look at the differences in parental mediation strategies used by working and non-working mothers. This study used quantitative method by distributing parental mediation questionnaires to mothers who had early childhood in 291 participants at two different schools, 51.2% were working mothers, and 48.8% were non-working mothers. There is no difference in mediation used between working and non-working mothers. This study also finds that children’s age, mother’s age and her latest education do not affect the used of parental mediation’s type. The majority of mothers use restrictive mediation. They tend to limit time of use, and content that can be watched.

Abstract

A teacher’s motivating style toward students is an important educational construct. Teacher-provided autonomy support benefits students and teachers themselves. The sampling methods in quantitative approach is saturated sampling. The qualitative data were obtained from interview with 6 teachers of MTs X Jatinangor regarding teacher’s motivating style and the causes influence teacher’s controlling style during learning activities. The sampling methods in qualitative approach is purposive sampling. The results showed that 36 teachers (97,3%) have moderately autonomy supportive orientation and 1 teacher (3,7%) has highly autonomy supportive orientation. Abstract

Pre-adolescent or pre-puberty phase is a transitions phase from childhood to becoming an adolescent. This phase is the most vulnerable phase in the development of school-aged children because children will experience many changes, either for physically or psychologically. One of the changes that stands out is change in emotion that occurs due to hormonal changes, which affect the emotional states so that individuals have moods that are volatile or unstable. One of behavior that can arise due to this unstable emotion is aggressive behavior. This research is using quantitative method to see the depiction of Student's emotional stability and aggressive behavior. The participant is gathered using convenience sampling of 162 students aged 10 to 12 years old at Islamic Elementary School Plus X. Results are showing that the majority of the participants are having mild emotional stability, but there are 43 students (26%) that are having low emotional stability. Majority of the participant also having a mild aggressive behavior and there are 34 students (21%) that are having high aggressive behavior. Furthermore, research shows that there is a significant negative correlation between emotional stability and aggressive behavior (r=0.378; p=0.00 < 0.05). Therefore, efforts are needed to increase the student's emotional stability so that it can minimize the aggresive behavior at school. Researcher plans to carry out an intervention plan that are provided in form of group guidance with role play methods to the research participants.

Abstract

The research examined the contribution of parental beliefs and students’ self-regulated learning simultaneously toward students’ reading comprehension of junior high school in Bali. The separate examination has also been carried out namely the contribution of Balinese parental beliefs on students' reading comprehension and the contribution of students’ self-regulated learning on reading comprehension. The sample of this research consisted of 71 junior high school students and Balinese parents living in Kabupaten Karangasem, Bali. This research sample was obtained using the nonprobability sampling method through convenience sampling technique. The research used questionnaires taken from Reading Comprehension Measuring Tools in order to measure students' reading comprehension, The Parental Beliefs Questionnaire to measure parents' beliefs and Motivated Strategies for Learning. The research data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis and simple regression analysis conducted using SPSS 23 and qualitative analysis. The results showed that parental beliefs and students' self-regulated learning simultaneously influenced students’ reading comprehension in Bali. Students’ self-regulated learning also had a significantly positive effect on reading comprehension. However, Balinese’s parental beliefs did not directly contribute to reading comprehension.

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that father plays an important role in children’s lives (Lamb, 2010). Father involvement has been found to promote independence, self control, and socialize gender role in early childhood children. This study aimed to obtain baseline data as the first stage of preparation of intervention program of father involvement as an intervention for father who had early childhood children. 54 fathers who had early children aged between 1 to 5 year olds were involved in this study. The design in this study was non-experimental research, one-shot study. The instrument was developed based on five aspects of father involvement (Pleck, 2010). The results of this study showed that father involvement in parenting for early childhood was moderate (M = 3.14). The control aspect of the father involvement reached the highest score (M = 3.31), while the lowest aspects of father involvement were in the aspect of positive involvement activities (M = 3.04) and process responsibility (M = 3.04). Based on this study, further research was necessary to develop a psychoeducation intervention program that optimalized father involvement in parenting for early childhood.
