Abstract

One of the confusions that mostly high-school students encounter related with the academic aspect is the issue of selecting a course. The course which they undertake when they are in high-school is frequently based upon the course which they will later undergo in the university. Therefore, the understanding of aptitude and ability test is necessary to help students answer their confusion of the course in the university level they will take. The result of the aptitude and ability test of the high-school student inthis research shows that she has strong points in several fields. The student herself has made a number of course options which fit her aptitude and ability. Hence, the next step that she carries out is making some alteration to other factors such as the financial condition of the parents and the prediction of work availability in the future. Eventually, her mathematical skills in accordance with the other factors have led her to prioritize the economic accounting as the course she will take in the university. Keywords: high-school student, course, aptitude and ability test

Abstract

Learning to solve mathematical story-problem is beneficial since it emphasizes on thinking process. However, grade two students often experience difficulties in solving the mathematical story-problems. The students’ experiences of difficulties could lead to the reluctance of the students to learn them. Therefore, a strategy is needed to enhance the students’ ability to solve the mathematical story-problem. The purpose of current study is to examine the effectiveness of Schema-Based Instruction (SBI) in enhancing the ability to the grade two primary school students to deal with mathematical story-problem. The participants were six students at WK state primary school in West Jakarta. Results showed that there was an improvement of the participants’ abilities to solve the mathematical story-problems although it was not statistically significant. Further implications were discussed regarding time efficiency and the implementation of the strategy. Keywords: Schema-Based Instruction (SBI), word-problem solving, mathematics, think aloud.

Abstract

Every child is basically creative, what differentiate one child to another is the degree and form of creativity that the child shows (Mulyadi, S in Budi, 2007). Therefore stimuli from the environment are necessary, so that creative thinking ability stored in each child can appear (Munandar, 1999). Nowadays, many scales of gifted children's traits have been developed that make it easier for teachers to track the capabilities of highly skilled children. What measurements will be used in tracking gifted children depend on what abilities or traits are deemed important that are owned by gifted children (Renzulli in Munandar, 1999). Based on Guilford's theory, Torrance then developed a test to measure creativity called TTCT (Torrance Test Creative Thinking). This test measures 4 aspects: (1) Fluency; (2) Elaboration; (3) Originality and; (4) Abstractness of Title. Each one of all the four aspects of Torrance Test of Creativity Thinking has its own norm. As a researcher, I want to develop the norms based on the characteristics of subjects residing in Indonesia. The subjects were children aged 7 to 12 who were in elementary school. The sample used in this study amounted to 201. Based on the results of data analysis, this study resulted norms of Fluency; Elaboration; Originality and; Abstractness of Title. In addition, criterion validity (predictive validity) test has also been done and scores obtained from Torrance Test Creative Thinking-Figural (TTCT-F) can predict a person's future creativity based on age. Keywords: creativity, norms, Torrance test of creativity thinking

In order to get the full and total comprehension of the subject experience, the research design used in this study is qualitative research. This study reveals that as lecturers, both of the subject experienced conflicts where family interfering with work and  work interfering with family. Abstract

Thesis writing problem at XYZ University has emerged since a few years ago. Therefore, this study aims to understand the existing conditions in the field regarding stress conditions, causes, coping strategies, and expected social support. This research uses the mixed methodology, involving XYZ University students who cannot complete their thesis in two semesters (including “Seminar”). Based on data from 84 students who participated, is known that the main obstacles are difficult in writing down ideas to a scientific form, bad relationship with the thesis advisor, courses that should be taken, and emergency psychological disorders symptoms. Furthermore, the most used coping strategy is emotional-focused coping. While the most expected social support is emotional support, networking (e.g., study groups) and information (e.g., feedback, discussion, and suggestions), qualitative data shows that "deadline" is essential to motivate students in completing a thesis. This research provides an intervention plan to help the students to complete their thesis. For example, the university manager can provide a system and providing facilities that can help these students to complete their thesis. Also, it also requires an emphasis on scientific writing tasks carried out in small groups or individually to students, with the aim of honing students' scientific writing skills before finally taking thesis.
