PASCA is a journal published periodically by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of the Indonesian Baptist Theological Institute (STBI) Semarang. Published regularly twice in one year, in May and November. This journal holds scientific work and research results in theological studies and Christian religious education with the scope of: Theology Old and New Testament Studies, Missiology and Contextualization, Religious Studies, Christian Education. Only manuscripts that are deemed worthy of publication will be published. The eligibility of the paper follows the guidelines and provisions contained in the Author Guidelines.

Abstract

This article was written to discover the theological contributions of the book of Jonah and its application in the lives of believers. The book of Jonah is one of the books in the Old Testament (OT) that is no less important than the other books. Although it only contains 48 verses divided into four chapters, this book also significantly contributes to building Christian theology. The method used is a qualitative method with a literature study approach. This research concludes that there are at least three theological contributions from the Book of Jonah, namely first, God's Call to Believers, where believers are called to have a compassionate heart for those who have not been saved and who are called to proclaim the news of Salvation to them so that believers need to have a heart that is obedient and quick to fulfill God's call; Second, the concept of Salvation, where the Salvation that God offers is not only for the Israelites but also for other nations, so believers need to preach the Gospel. Third, God's Sovereignty, where the God we worship is the God who reigns over the universe and everything in it; he is also the God who cares for and accompanies His people. Therefore believers need to surrender and fully believe in God's destiny. God is carrying out His call.

Abstract

The meaning of "son of God" is often colored by the theological-philosophical descriptions of post-first century theologians. Through this research, the author will explain the concept of "son of God" in the light of the socio-political situation of the first century where the writing of the book of Romans was carried out. Through the biblical exegesis method, the author emphasizes that the concept of "son of God" in Romans 1:3-4 has relevance for the political role of today's readers. The writer finds that the political relevance related to the meaning of the child of God is that the Church is not always in an obedient position, but can be critical; Even though Paul was critical, he still did not encourage the congregation to act against them with violence; Paul's critical attitude towards the state was in the realm of ideology; Jesus is the Son of God, ideally, an Example for Rulers. Through this paper, we will bring an alternative interpretation of the meaning of "son of God" in the current context.

Abstract

This article seeks to read the meaning of mixed marriage for God's children in the text of Genesis 6:1-4 through the peshat interpretation. This interpretation approach is one of the traditional Jewish hermeneutical methods. It is hoped that with this approach, a more profound explanation can be obtained regarding the context of marriage at that time so that it also triggers and causes "God's regrets." The offspring from this marriage created a gene mixture between the sons of God and the daughters of men. The result is that the children of God referred to in the text are pious descendants of Seth, one of Noah's sons, and married to an ungodly woman from Cain's lineage. Suppose a marriage is only determined based on one's desires and does not fulfill the elements of God's will. In that case, the person will inevitably walk in disobedience to God and continue to live in his condition as a sinful human being.

Abstract

Setiap orang percaya pernah mengalami pencobaan dan memiliki kisahnya masing-masing di dunia masa kini yang semakin praktis dan serba instan. Orang percaya sekarang ini ketika diperhadapkan dalam cobaan hidup yang tidak dapat diselesaikan secara instan, pada akhirnya memutuskan menyerah dengan keadaan. Iman dilupakan dan ini merupakan sebuah problem dalam kekristenan dewasa ini. Untuk itu, artikel ini menelaah pentingnya hidup yang tekun di dalam iman sebagaimana nasihat Yakobus kepada orang percaya yang menderita akibat penjajahan Romawi. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan sumber-sumber literatur, penelitian ini akan menggali pentingnya hidup beriman melalui penggalan teks Yakobus 1:2-8. Kesimpulan utama yang diperoleh adalah perlunya perubahan persepektif di kalangan orang Kristen mengenai pencobaan yang harus dilihat sebagai proses penguatan iman dan jalan untuk melatih ketekunan. Hanya dengan cara itu, setiap cobaan yang dihadapi akan dilihat sebagai proses yang menumbuhkan kebergantungan dan kepercayaan yang kuat kepada Tuhan.

Abstract

Revelation is God's effort, which can be seen from the words and what He does to reveal Himself and His will to humans. In that way, He revealed Himself to man, and man could know Him. However, human knowledge of God is minimal because of the lack of human awareness about revelation. This research examines "Bible Revelation" as a revelation that complements human efforts to increase knowledge about God. The study will describe and reveal efforts to know God through the Bible with a qualitative approach. The research results confirm that as the word of God, the Bible is a revelation. That human can access to understand God, know Him, understand His purposes, and understand His will.

Abstract

Perundungan merupakan tindakan menyakiti orang lain baik secara fisik maupun verbal. Kasus perundungan sering terjadi di lingkup dunia pendidikan, salah satunya kasus perundungan terhadap siswa disabilitas di Cirebon. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor penyebab, dampak, serta cara yang dapat dilakukan untuk mencegah terjadinya perundungan dalam persepektif pendidikan secara umum dan pendidikan agama Kristen khususnya. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif literar, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi non-partisipan dan studi dokumentasi sekunder yang terdapat di berbagai media massa. Hasilnya, diketahui bahwa perundungan dikalangan pelajar disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor eksternal dan internal. Contoh dampak perundungan bagi korban seperti hilang fokus, trauma, dan sulit bersosialisasi. Sedangkan pada pelaku cenderung semakin bersikap kasar. Tindakan pencegahan seperti seminar, pengendalian sosial, perbaikan pola asuh, interaksi sosial, serta beberapa pencegahan lainnya dapat dilakukan untuk mencegah terjadi perundungan dikalangan remaja. Psikologi pendidikan di dalam pengajaran agama Kristen dengan demikian menjadi sebuah hal urgent untuk dipikirkan bersama.

Abstract

Dr. Bambang Noorsena wrote this book containing a collection of articles and various independent works by Noorsena, which have been presented numerous times since the end of 1997. These writings are framed under a title: Towards Christian-Islamic Theological Dialogue. This article is motivated by the burden of history, where in the Indonesian context, the carriers of religions such as Islam are identified with Arabs (Middle East). At the same time, Christianity is synonymous with the West. According to Noorsena, Christianity in Indonesia has been uprooted from its Middle Eastern roots due to Westernization. Thus this research aims to bridge the gap between Islam and Christianity in the theological dialogue Noorsena offers a discourse on Middle Eastern Christianity (Syrian Christianity) in Indonesia. Traditionally/the Islamic model preserves the traditions/models of worship of Syriac Christianity and Judaism.

Abstract

This paper refers to the philosophical, theoretical framework of Stoicism and its urgency for developing the Christian faith. Today many Christians experience degradation of control and self-mastery, resulting in internal conflicts within oneself and horizontal conflicts with others. The research method used is a literature study. In this study, researchers found that the philosophical theory of Stoicism, within certain limits, can be implemented in the lives of Christians through happiness, self-mastery, benevolence, teaching, self-improvement, and being grateful for the existing life. Regardless of the selfish attitude that appears, the best hope of every Christian is to be happy with what God is doing in their lives so that suffering, distress, or sadness is not a reason for Christians not to love or worship Jesus.

Abstract

Illnesses are life problems that believers often face. Various ways are used to get physical healing, apart from medication, and spiritually by praying to God for healing. Prayers are carried out privately or with prayer support from church ministers. However, a disease that never heals often leads to despair and loss of hope. There may even be disappointment with God because the prayer request for healing was not granted. This research uses a text analysis study approach of James 5:14-16 to understand the correlation of prayer and the divine aura for believers. James explains that heavenly appearances include both spiritual and physical aspects. This text explains that the prayer request of faith relates to the forgiveness of sins, which impacts divine healing from sickness due to sins that entangle believers. So in his letter, James emphasizes rapprochement with God so that the prayers offered to Him are not hindered. With the correct understanding of this Bible text, believers can pray effectively to experience divine healing and restoration of their lives.

Abstract

The term "levirate marriage" or brother-in-law marriage used in Deuteronomy is certainly not familiar to some people in modern times. The story of Ruth clearly shows that levirate marriage is actually based on Deuteronomy 25:5-6. This paper uses a systematic methodology by showing how the concept of levirate marriage is in Deuteronomy 25:5-6 and relates it to a theological understanding based on the Bible as a whole. The practice of levirate marriage in the text of Deuteronomy 25:5-6 had an important value in maintaining the family line and preventing the extinction of lineage in Jewish society at that time. However, the relevance of this practice to in-law marriage is still debated and is not used as a basis for in-law marriages in Judaism or other religions.
