Abstract

The life of a pagan prophet from Moab named Balaam is an exciting lesson about leadership to study. This prophet represents a materialistic lifestyle, disobedience to God, and disobedience of service in the name of God. His ministry was in a historical setting where Israel also experienced severe moral decadence as God's people. This article will reveal and analyze how Balaam's role as a reflection of contemporary leadership in the church is strongly influenced by the concepts of materialism, hedonic lifestyle, and highly pay-oriented leadership. Through a qualitative descriptive approach, this study uses some works of literature as the main study. Through Balaam's life, contemporary church leaders could learn about the importance of integrity and genuine ministry motivation. The exemplary aspect is an essential factor that leaders must own. We also found that leaders need to serve with a servant spirit, as Jesus had shown. Only in this way can a leader have an honorable and consistent life in the values of the truth of God's word.

Education is an important thing in a society, even a country. Without education, the future of a country will be destroyed (collapsed). Therefore, education must be a serious concern to educate the nation. By using a literature-based qualitative research method, the author examines the pedagogy of liberation promoted by Paulo Freire. Pedagogy of liberation is then applied in Christian Education. From the resulting study, the author found that the pedagogy of liberation can be applied in Christian education to avoid an education system that makes the teacher the center of learning (bank-style education system) so that it can be avoided of oppression action.

Abstract

Infodemic in the middle of a pandemic is a crucial problem because the issue has become a phenomenon that morally harms the quality of human life. The amount of information on social media related to COVID-19 includes hoaxes that lead users to wrong thinking and acting. In Indonesia, many negative cases occur due to consuming scams on social media. Seeing the infodemic amid the pandemic, the authors used Immanuel Kant's ethical theory to analyze the phenomenon. Kant's ethics theory emphasizes the role of individuals as moral agents. The results from this analysis show that individuals' inability to play their part as moral agents allows the development of an infodemic in the middle of a pandemic. Apathy in accepting and disseminating information to others without verification is unethical and ultimately influences the quality of the community's life.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the culture of the Minahasa (Tou) people about the sacredness of the Manguni bird. The Manguni bird is believed to be a sacred bird initially originating from Minahasa, North Sulawesi. The identity of the Manguni bird by Tou Minahasa is known as the Ot bird or Tototic bird. The Manguni bird for Tou Minahasa has a sacred symbol. Therefore, Tou Minahasa made this bird sacred. The community's attitude to describing the Manguni bird in contextual theology is found in the symbols of the Evangelical Christian Church in Minahasa (GMIM), Minahasa regional symbols/symbols, carvings, and typical Minahasa batik clothes. Tou Minahasa believes that the Manguni bird is an intermediary between humans and God Almighty (Opo Empung Wailan Wangko) and is the bearer of news. This research is influenced by the customs and culture of the Tou Minahasa, which functions to recognize the beliefs of the ancestors (ancestors) that contain noble values. This article uses qualitative methods through observation, in-depth interviews, and literature study. The results of this study concluded that the Manguni bird, both physically and in Minahasa culture, contains sacred values and becomes the identity of Tou Minahasa.

The religious boundaries studied in this book include Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Confucianism, Christianity, Manichean, Sikhism, Shinto, Taoism, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, and Bahai. Abstract

This article offers a theological framework for interpreting supernatural horror films with a Christian worldview based on narratives of creation, fall, redemption, and glorification. By doing library research, this article describes supernatural horror films. It analyzes a Christian worldview of the relationship between God, humans, and demons, as well as the pocong film through that worldview. Thus, supernatural horror films can show values and hopes that support Christian narratives. On the other hand, it can also reject Christian narratives because supernatural horror films as religious and cultural products have values and ideas that are not always in line with God's revelation, which is rooted in God's revelation that views demons and so on as finite creation, has been defeated through the work of Christ, and the promise of demons final defeat and so on in the new heaven and earth. Ultimately, this article interprets the pocong film narrative as a case study. As a result, pocong films have a discrepancy with Christian narratives, such as the dead being able to "come back to life." However, they also have similarities, such as emphasizing the existence of supernatural beings who play the antagonist role.

Abstract

This article aims to present and offer a new mission model to renew the traditional mission known as plantation ecclesia or planting the Church amid non-Christian nations. This reality is created from the concept of the mission brought and carried out by the West in colonial territories. , known for its history of colonial expansion, which is understood as the subjugation of adherents of other religions to Christianity. This problem is the basis for the author to carry out a conceptual reconstruction of the mission through consideration of the plural Indonesian context. By setting aside a prescriptive attitude, the mission must be understood as a vocation for everyone to be a model for the world, in other words, to be present and live in the world as it is. It uses descriptive qualitative research methods and narrative analysis of Isaiah 42:1-9. This article closes with the conceptual construction of the mission so that the results show that passive missions can be an alternative. As a result, the mission is not only limited to spreading the faith that is outwardly or centrifugally centered but becomes an inward or centripetal-directed activity, citing A de Kuyper's thoughts. So from an active mission that focuses on finding people or expansive, it transforms into a passive mission that turns inward and rethinks how to get others to come.

Abstract

This paper examines the act of Christian solidarity as a form of altruism towards the poor which will be discussed qualitatively descriptively, namely by conducting a literature study in which there is an understanding of theological ethics. Altruism, as opposed to egoism, is an act that arises from oneself to assist others on a larger scale than oneself. It cannot be ruled out that altruism can be used as a moral basis to form solidarity with the poor. Solidarity means that we share what other people feel, precisely the sense of solidarity with the poor. Poor, in this case, is not only material, but poor people also feel poor in spirit. This research emphasizes that it is essential to cultivate a sense of Christian solidarity towards the poor, which is a manifestation of altruism with a Christian foundation that is so strong in its foundation with the law of love. Therefore, Christians participate in altruistic actions based on the law of love for the poor, both materially and spiritually poor. Making altruism an indication of morality will be a good first step to increasing a solid sense of concern among people to reduce poverty.
