Abstract

The matter of inequality in context of health status is reflected in the high differences in maternal mortality rates in several countries. Often health information is ignored because of differences in understanding the needs of women and their families. This becomes a communication barrier between health care providers and families in selecting and making emergency decisions that may arise during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium. This study aims to describe the habits and traditions of women during pregnancy and after childbirth in maternal health care. This research uses descriptive analysis method with a case study approach. The study sample consisted of four postpartum mothers with criteria of normal conditions without complications since the third trimester of pregnancy, and the similarity of Banjar ethnic characteristics. The illustration of the results shows that four research subjects carried out the habits of the prevailing tradition, including self-perception; services received from attendants, places and types of care; taboo on food and medicine; suggestion about food and medicine; and rituals in the form of ceremonies and salvation prayers together with maternal health care from midwives, nurses at midwife clinics and Puskesmas. Our research findings confirm that Banjar people are accustomed to using cultural traditions that are integrated into their families and communities and health care services in available and affordable facilities in the area.

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis or rheumatism is an inflammation of the connective tissue, especially affecting the skeletal muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons and joints in men and women of all ages. Risk factors for rheumatoid arthritis are caused by infection, occupation, food, genetics, age and psychological factors. Rheumatoid arthritis can cause muscle changes, so that its function can decrease if the muscles in the patient's part are not trained to activate muscle function. This type of research is Analytical with a Cross Sectional research design. The aim is to analyze the factors that influence the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis in patients at the Baiturrahman Health Center. The study population consisted of 314 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The sample of this research was 76 people who were taken by accidental sampling. The data collected is primary data obtained by direct interviews using questionnaires. Data were analyzed in distribution and frequency tables. The results of the study showed that the majority of risk factors were infection (77.6%), the majority of occupational factors were at risk of (85.5%), the majority of food factors were at risk of (56.6%), the majority of genetic factors were at risk of (90.8%), and psychological factors (100%) are at risk. In conclusion, the dominant risk factor for rheumatoid arthritis in patients is psychological factors. Rheumatoid arthritis patients are expected to reduce psychological burdens such as stress and anxiety which easily tire the body, to avoid consuming foods that contain purines, and in doing daily work so as not to put excessive pressure on joints and muscles. It is hoped that Baiturrahman Health Center staff should provide counseling to rheumatoid arthritis patients on how to reduce the psychological burden, types of food consumed, and jobs that can put excessive pressure on joints and muscles.

Hypertension in pregnancy is common and is the leading cause of maternal death, as well as having other serious effects during childbirth. Hypertension in pregnancy occurs in 5% of all pregnancies. Garlic is one type of natural wealth that can lower blood pressure because garlic has active compounds that are known to affect the availability of ions for smooth muscle contraction of blood vessels. This study uses the PICOT format which helps to summarize research questions exploring the therapeutic effect of garlic on hypertension in pregnant women. From the results of an analysis of several previous studies, hypertension can be controlled by regularly taking antihypertensive drugs. In addition to drugs, garlic which is a proven herbal ingredient can be used as an adjuvant to control high blood pressure in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

The problem of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls is still one of the main health problems. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is 64.25%, consisting of 54.89% primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% secondary dysmenorrhea. One of the causes of dysmenorrhea is a lack of iron intake, iron plays a role in the formation of hemoglobin. Lack of iron intake can disrupt the formation of hemoglobin, so that the amount of hemoglobin in red blood cells will also decrease. The condition of low hemoglobin in red blood cells, causing the body to lack oxygen will cause anemia and dysmenorrhea. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between iron intake and the incidence of dysmenorrhea in young women at MA Darul Ulum Palangka Raya. This type of research is observational analytic with cross sectional design. The sampling technique used is a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling approach. The sample of this research was young women of MA Darul Ulum Palangkaraya, totaling 55 respondents. The results of the Chi-Square Test analysis are a p value of 0.000 (α<0.05) which proves that there is a relationship between the independent variable (iron intake) and the dependent variable (dysmenorrhea incidence). There is a relationship between iron intake and the incidence of dysmenorrhea in young women at MA Darul Ulum Palangkaraya.

Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy, encompassing both gestational hypertension and preeclampsia, is a significant public health concern, particularly in Southeast Asia. This study investigates the prevalence, risk factors, and healthcare management of hypertension in pregnancy in Viet Nam, with data collected from various healthcare facilities across the country in July 2023. The study finds that 25% of pregnant women in the sample experienced hypertension, with a notable distribution between gestational hypertension and preeclampsia. Key risk factors identified include obesity, advanced maternal age, diabetes, and socio-economic challenges. The study also highlights substantial disparities in healthcare access and management between urban and rural areas, with urban areas having better access to prenatal care and specialized resources compared to rural regions. These findings underscore the urgent need for targeted public health interventions and improvements in healthcare infrastructure to address these disparities and improve maternal health outcomes. Effective management of hypertension in pregnancy requires a comprehensive approach, including enhanced access to healthcare, improved education, and socio-economic support to reduce the incidence and impact of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy.

Abstract

This study investigates the prevalence and impact of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) among smokers in the Philippines using a mixed-methods approach. Data was collected from April 2022 to April 2023 across urban and rural areas, involving 1,500 participants aged 40 and above with a history of smoking. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and questionnaires assessed COPD prevalence, smoking habits, environmental exposures, and comorbidities. COPD was diagnosed using spirometry, adhering to Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) guidelines. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS, employing descriptive statistics and logistic regression to explore associations between smoking, environmental factors, and COPD. The findings revealed a 35% COPD prevalence among participants, with a notable gender disparity: 45% in males and 25% in females, correlating with higher smoking rates among men. Logistic regression indicated that each additional pack-year of smoking increased COPD risk by 3.3%. Urban living, especially in Metro Manila, was significantly associated with higher COPD prevalence, likely due to elevated air pollution and exposure to indoor pollutants. Additionally, 59.4% of COPD cases were undiagnosed prior to this study, highlighting significant gaps in awareness and healthcare access. The study underscores the urgent need for improved COPD awareness, better diagnostic practices, and targeted public health interventions, including smoking cessation programs and strategies to reduce environmental exposures. Addressing these issues can significantly reduce COPD burden and enhance healthcare outcomes for affected individuals in the Philippines.
