Abstract

The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is categorized as high, caused by gender problems, namely the inability of women in making decisions related to self-readiness to face pregnancy, and the selection of helpers before childbirth. The purpose of the study was to determine the gender relationship regarding midwifery service decision-making, facing childbirth in third trimester pregnant women at the Malinau Health Center. Analytical observational research methods are used, with a cross-sectional design. The study sample was totaling 45 people. The data was analyzed with the Chi Square test. As a result, 23 respondents (51.11%) made inappropriate decisions about choosing midwifery services. Gender roles were 24 people (53.33%) in the ‘less’ category. There is a significant relationship between gender roles and decision-making for midwifery services facing childbirth in the third trimester of pregnant women at the Malinau Health Center in 2023, where the p-Value value = 0.001 < α = 0.05 is obtained. It was found that there was a significant relationship between gender roles and decision-making of midwifery services facing childbirth in third trimester pregnant women. Health workers should be more sensitive to gender issues, in carrying out midwifery care for patients

Abstract

The matter of inequality in context of health status is reflected in the high differences in maternal mortality rates in several countries. Often health information is ignored because of differences in understanding the needs of women and their families. This becomes a communication barrier between health care providers and families in selecting and making emergency decisions that may arise during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium. This study aims to describe the habits and traditions of women during pregnancy and after childbirth in maternal health care. This research uses descriptive analysis method with a case study approach. The study sample consisted of four postpartum mothers with criteria of normal conditions without complications since the third trimester of pregnancy, and the similarity of Banjar ethnic characteristics. The illustration of the results shows that four research subjects carried out the habits of the prevailing tradition, including self-perception; services received from attendants, places and types of care; taboo on food and medicine; suggestion about food and medicine; and rituals in the form of ceremonies and salvation prayers together with maternal health care from midwives, nurses at midwife clinics and Puskesmas. Our research findings confirm that Banjar people are accustomed to using cultural traditions that are integrated into their families and communities and health care services in available and affordable facilities in the area.

Abstract

Nilai rata – rata taksiran berat janin menurut rumus Johnson Tauscak sebesar 2854.33 dan nilai rata – rata berat badan bayi baru lahir sebesar 2886.53.

Abstract

Background: Perineal wounds can cause pain, inflammation, and mechanical trauma and even affect daily mobility. Furthermore, over a long period, prolonged pain can also cause women to become irritable, tired, and even depressed. Midwives are responsible for providing episiotomy pain management services and offering evidence-based good practices for such problems or complaints. Objective: This evidence-based case review aims to determine the results of alternative treatments in relieving and healing perineal wound pain, both spontaneous tears during childbirth and suture wounds. Method: This review is based on a good practice stage report carried out by a group of midwife professional program students who handled midwifery care in the Fatimah Azzahra postpartum ward, Islamic Hospitals, Banjarmasin, in June 2023 with cases including spontaneous lacerations, episiotomies, and second-degree suturing. Then, three articles were assessed and analyzed to provide comparison and evidence relevant to our case report.  Criteria indicators use the PICO format. Findings: The problem was seen in episiotomy wound pain, with some differences in intervention, including lavender oil, ice blocks, rosemary cream, and lavender oil vapor. Furthermore, the comparison between the studies was the group of material used, method, and design of interventions. The outcomes were reduced local temperature of the skin and subcutaneous tissue and a lower rate of the wound in the intervention. Conclusion: Complementary therapy of midwifery care in hospitals has been implemented quite well as long as it does not conflict with procedures, raw materials are easy to obtain, and it is also under continuous supervision by other practitioners.
