Abstract

This study addresses the limited implementation of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model in primary schools, despite its proven potential to enhance students’ higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) and problem-solving abilities. The research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the RME model in improving mathematics learning outcomes among sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Masbagik Timur during the 2025/2026 academic year. A quantitative experimental design was employed, involving 18 purposively selected students. Data were collected using validated and reliable pretest and posttest instruments. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, normality testing, paired sample t-tests, and effect size measurement. Results indicated a significant improvement in students' performance, with the mean posttest score (M = 72.36) notably higher than the pretest score (M = 53.19). The paired t-test confirmed this improvement as statistically significant (t = -6.774, p < 0.001), while the effect size analysis yielded a very large Cohen’s d value of 1.60. These findings demonstrate that the RME model effectively enhances mathematical achievement, particularly in students’ ability to interpret problems, develop solution strategies, and critically assess outcomes. The study concludes that embedding realistic and contextualized problems into mathematics instruction significantly promotes student-centered learning and strengthens HOTS-oriented problem-solving capabilities. It recommends that educators and curriculum designers adopt RME-based approaches to foster more meaningful and active learning environments. Future research should consider larger sample sizes and longitudinal designs to assess the long-term impact and generalizability of RME implementation.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of hadrah as a medium of socio-religious transformation, a topic that remains underexplored despite its profound impact on youth character formation and communal identity in rural Islamic settings. Focusing on Sumbek Hamlet, Muncan Village, the research aims to understand how participation in hadrah fosters social, religious, and moral development among youth. Utilizing a qualitative research design, the study engaged 25 purposively selected participants, including youth members, religious instructors, community leaders, parents, and local officials. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed thematically to uncover key dimensions of transformation. The findings reveal that hadrah functions as a dynamic space for both social and spiritual learning. Socially, it promotes discipline, cooperation, and group solidarity through collective rehearsals and performances that reinforce a shared identity. Religiously, it deepens spiritual awareness and moral internalization through devotional lyrics, rhythmic dzikr, and communal acts of worship. The study concludes that hadrah operates as a living medium of cultural da’wah, blending artistic expression with religious devotion to create a transformative ecosystem of faith and community engagement. Theoretically, the study contributes to Cultural Transformation Theory and Religious Socialization Theory by illustrating how traditional religious arts function as vehicles for value transmission and identity formation. Practically, it offers insights for educators, religious leaders, and policymakers to harness hadrah as an informal yet effective pedagogical tool for character education and spiritual development. Future research is recommended to explore hadrah’s transformative potential in urban and gender-diverse contexts.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of socio-cultural factors on the memorisation of the Qur’an (tahfiz) in Islamic boarding schools, a dimension often overlooked despite its critical role in students’ learning success. Focusing on the Al Qonitat Miftahun Najah Islamic Boarding School in Jepara, the research aims to analyse how social environments, cultural traditions, and peer interactions impact the tahfiz process. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from 20 purposively selected students through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analysed thematically. The findings reveal that family support, institutional motivation, and entrenched religious traditions serve as key enablers, while social pressure, cultural differences, and the rigid routines of pesantren life present significant challenges. These results align with social learning theory, emphasizing the role of collective interaction in shaping educational behaviour. The study concludes that socio-cultural dynamics play a decisive role in the success of Qur’anic memorisation. Practically, the findings suggest that enhanced collaboration between families and educational institutions is essential to cultivating a more supportive and sustainable learning environment.

Abstract

The activity of memorizing the Qur’an represents a form of spiritual learning believed to have a positive impact on students’ religiosity, psychological balance, and emotional intelligence. This study aims to examine the influence of Qur’an memorization on the emotional intelligence of students at SMA Negeri 1 Lamongan, particularly in their ability to recognize, manage, and express emotions positively. A quantitative correlational approach was employed, with the sample selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using two validated scales: the Qur’an memorization habit scale and the emotional intelligence scale. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson correlation via SPSS 27.0 for Windows, based on Daniel Goleman’s theory of emotional intelligence and the concept of spirituality in Islamic education. The results show a positive and significant relationship between Qur’an memorization and emotional intelligence, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.307. This indicates that tahfizh activity contributes 30.7% to students’ emotional intelligence, while the remaining influence is attributed to other factors. These findings suggest that Qur’an memorization routines play a role in shaping character, inner peace, self-control, emotional stability, and social empathy. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of integrating tahfizh programs into general education as a strategy for character development and enhancing students’ emotional resilience.

Abstract

The phenomenon of moral degradation among adolescents in the digital era necessitates effective intervention through structured educational institutions and family collaboration. This study aims to examine and analyze the influence of parental attention and Islamic boarding school (pesantren) education on character formation among students at Pondok Pesantren Al Manar, Semarang. A descriptive quantitative method was employed using purposive sampling, involving 50 students aged 17–18 who had resided in the pesantren for at least two years. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire (Cronbach's Alpha > 0.70), covering dimensions of parental attention (emotional, spiritual, material support, and communication), pesantren education (habituation, exemplary behavior, controlled environment, and integrated curriculum), and character formation (religious values, nationalism, integrity, independence, and mutual cooperation). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and multicollinearity tests with SPSS. The results show a strong positive correlation between pesantren education and character formation (r = 0.651; p < 0.01), and a moderate positive correlation between parental attention and character formation (r = 0.303; p < 0.05). Simultaneous analysis indicates a significant synergistic relationship between the two independent variables and character formation (r = 0.435; p < 0.01), with a tolerance value of 0.811 and VIF of 1.233, indicating no multicollinearity. In conclusion, pesantren education plays a dominant role in shaping character through a comprehensive and structured approach, while parental attention strengthens the students’ psychological and emotional foundation. The synergy between family and pesantren institutions creates an integrated and effective character education ecosystem capable of addressing adolescent moral challenges in the digital age.

Abstract

In an increasingly competitive educational landscape, institutions are leveraging technology and social media to enhance their public image, build trust, and establish strong branding. This qualitative study explores the strategic role of the principal in managing public relations (PR) to shape a positive institutional image at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Yasini. Through observations and interviews with the principal and PR team, the research underscores the centrality of the principal’s leadership in directing and evaluating PR performance. The study adopts the Four-Step PR Model—Problem Defining, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation—as an analytical framework. Findings reveal that the principal’s strategy is effectively realized through flagship programs such as the Genius Class and scholarship initiatives, as well as the formation of a specialized PR IT Team. These efforts led to a notable increase in student enrollment, reflecting improved institutional visibility and reputation. However, challenges persist in the form of inconsistent content posting, subpar visual presentation, and limited creativity in digital communication. The study concludes that while strategic leadership is a critical enabler of successful PR, there is a pressing need to enhance the technical and creative capacities of the PR team to fully leverage digital platforms and sustain institutional growth.

Abstract

This study aims to critically analyze the internal and external mechanisms that enable angklung activities in kindergartens in Nganjuk to serve as an effective catalyst for instilling character values and developing artistic appreciation in early childhood, while also identifying associated challenges and opportunities. A qualitative approach was employed using a multi-site case study design grounded in a phenomenological-interpretive lens, allowing for the exploration of subjective narratives and contextual understanding from key participants. The findings reveal that angklung activities, through their collective dynamics and the demand for musical harmony, intrinsically foster the internalization of character values such as discipline, cooperation, empathy, and responsibility—not merely through verbal instruction, but through meaningful, concrete experiences. These results reinforce theories of holistic education and child developmental psychology, while also challenging the dominance of cognitively-focused educational approaches. The implications of this study contribute to the enrichment of arts pedagogy literature rooted in local culture and early childhood character education. Practically, the study offers strategic recommendations for policymakers, particularly local governments and the Ministry of Education, to consider replicating and adapting this angklung-based arts learning model. It also opens avenues for further research on its long-term impacts and variations of implementation across diverse socio-cultural contexts.
