Abstract

This research aims to describe the profile of students' computational thinking skills (CTS) in solving problems on topics about work, energy, and simple machines in science learning. This research was conducted using a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The subjects in this research were students in classes VIII A and IX A of SMP Negeri 4 Jember for the 2023/2024 academic year, with a total of 64 students from each class taken from 32 students in each class. The data collection technique in this research used a Computational Thinking essay test with 5 questions, which were then analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis. Based on the research results, it is known that the CTS level of class VIII students was 35.97, so it was categorized as low, and the CTS level of class IX students was 53.59, which has been given treatment, so it is categorized as medium. The highest level that class VIII students could achieve was 55.47%, namely decomposition ability, and the lowest percentage was 2.18%, namely evaluation ability. Meanwhile, the highest level that could be achieved by class IX students who had received learning material on work, energy, and simple machines was 59.37%, namely decomposition ability, and the lowest level was 20.93%, namely pattern recognition ability.

Analysis of the effectiveness of the implementation of E-LKPD data used N-Gain analysis obtained from statistical tests of pre-test and post-test results. The study results at two schools showed that students' critical thinking skills in interpretation and analysis were in the high category, while inference and explanation were in the medium category. In another school, the aspects of interpretation, analysis, and inference were in the high category, while the explanation aspect was in the medium category. Based on these results, e-LKPD with the guided inquiry approach was effectively implemented to improve the critical thinking skills of grade IV elementary school students in science learning.

This study used a qualitative approach with a literature research method. The data collection technique in this research was documentation (journals articles (nationally reputable, nationally indexed by Sinta, internationally indexed by DOAJ, and internationally indexed by Scopus), books, online news and others) and the data analysis used is content analysis. The results showed that the role of democratic education is to instill democratic values based on the nation's personality, such as tolerance, responsibility, openness between others, justice, realizing diversity, humanity and others. Democracy education activities could be carried out in schools through civic education learning, in the family environment carried out by often interacting with friends or relatives who have differences in religion, ethnicity, race and others, and in the community can be done by deliberation in RT meetings and holding regional art activities. Governments, political parties, organizations, and families can organize democracy education. Suppose the role of democracy education runs optimally. In that case, it can anticipate politics with SARA nuances so that it will have implications for harmony between others, including religions, tribes, races, groups and so on. Harmony of life among others in the life of the nation and state is the ultimate goal of democratic education.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate teachers’ views about the implementation of collaborative learning in English classes. Collaborative learning helps students to improve their English language performance. The data was collected through observation, questionnaires, and interview. The quantitative data were analyzed using percentage and frequency. Theme analysis technique was used to analyze the qualitative data. The result of the study indicated that most EFL teachers widely implement students’ collaborative learning, but the type of collaborative learning they are implementing is not collaborative group learning. Most of the teachers simply make their students to sit side by side to talk with each other as they do their individual assignments, and some teachers assign a task to groups.  Then, one or two of the group members do the work and the other group members get equal credit. Although each of these is important in collaborative learning, they do not qualify collaborative learning rather traditional group learning. The data obtained from teachers’ interview revealed that teachers widely implement both informal and base group collaborative learning since most of the teachers allow their students to work collaborative from few minutes to a class period and most of the groups (‘Net works’) formed are with stable membership for the semester. In addition to this, some teachers were not playing their roles as they are expected. Teachers and other concerned bodies ought to deliver sorts of orientations to the students about the importance of collaborative learning to maximize their views before implementing collaborative learning.
