Abstract

The palm oil industry requires efficient production systems to minimize oil losses and maintain product quality. One critical point of oil loss occurs in final drab from the clarification process, which still contains residual oil. This study aims to analyze and compare oil losses in final drab using the extraction (Soxhlet) method and the FOSS Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) method. The research was conducted at PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Regional I PKS Sei Mangkei using final drab samples collected from 28 July to 2 August 2025. The results show that oil losses measured by the extraction method ranged from 0.27% to 0.63%, while the FOSS NIRS method ranged from 0.07% to 0.36%. Most values were within the company standard of 0.50%. NIRS is recommended for routine monitoring due to faster analysis, while periodic calibration with the extraction method is required to maintain accuracy.

Abstract

The rapid growth of coffee shop businesses in Gorontalo has intensified competition among business operators, including street-side coffee stalls. This condition provides consumers with more alternatives in choosing places to enjoy coffee and potentially leads to customer switching between coffee shops. This study aims to analyze the pattern of customer switching between T-Razz Coffee and other street-side coffee stalls in the Center Point area, Bone Bolango Regency. This research employs a quantitative approach using the Markov Chain method. The results of the Markov analysis indicate a steady state condition, with the market share of T-Razz Coffee reaching 61.07%, while other street-side coffee stalls account for 38.92%. These findings provide an overview of customer switching patterns that may serve as a basis for strategic considerations in responding to competition within the coffee shop industry.

Abstract

The petrochemical industry plays an important role in the supply chain of polymer-based products. In terms of raw materials, this industry still relies heavily on fossil-based feedstocks whose availability is gradually declining. On the other hand, the products generated from this industry contribute to the increasing accumulation of plastic waste due to their resistance to natural degradation. Nevertheless, the demand for industrial sustainability continues to rise along with the increasing needs of society. The development of bioplastics can serve as one of the diversification strategies to produce value-added materials, specifically in biodegradability. This study aims to produce bioplastics using various type of starch and fillers with propylene glycol as a plasticizer and to analyze their characteristics. The results of this study indicate that the appropriate combination of starch, filler, and plasticizer can enhance the physical characteristics of bioplastics. The bioplastics produced using various combinations of starch types and fillers in this study were able to degrade, which is better than standard commercial bioplastics that had not degraded within seven days. However, further optimization of the formulation is still required to achieve physical characteristics that approach or meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has reshaped global food logistics systems, particularly in strengthening halal certification integrity through enhanced transparency, operational efficiency, and traceability. The increasing global demand for halal products requires supply chains capable of ensuring end-to-end Sharia compliance. This review synthesizes findings from 20 international studies on the application of AI in halal food logistics using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, with data collected from reputable journals, conference proceedings, and scientific repositories. The results indicate that integrating AI with technologies such as blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and machine learning improves real-time supply chain monitoring, contamination risk prediction, and certification process automation. However, key challenges remain, including technological readiness, cross-border regulatory alignment, data security, and stakeholder integration. This study proposes a conceptual framework for AI implementation in global halal logistics and highlights future research directions to support sustainable and reliable halal supply chain systems.

Abstract

Ammonia contamination in water poses serious ecological risks, while commercial bioremediation agents remain costly for widespread application. This study evaluated the technical and economic performance of a self-formulated biological agent made from golden apple snail shells and banana pseudostems for ammonia removal. A laboratory-scale preliminary experiment used 500 mL batch reactors containing synthetic wastewater in a 2 × 3 × 3 factorial design without replication, comparing EM4 and the self-formulated agent at initial ammonia concentrations of 10, 30, and 50 ppm over 1, 2, and 3 days. Ammonia was measured by the Nessler spectrophotometric method and analyzed using ANOVA GLM. The self-formulated agent showed performance comparable to EM4, with both achieving more than 80% removal under suitable conditions. Removal efficiency was influenced by the interaction between ammonia load and contact time, while cost analysis indicated a potential 92.1% saving. Further replicated pilot-scale studies with abiotic controls and real wastewater are recommended.

Abstract

Process variation in ceramic manufacturing significantly contributes to product defects and inconsistent quality performance. This study evaluates the statistical stability of a ceramic production line using an attribute-based Statistical Process Control approach. A total of 36,000 units were inspected during January 2026 with a constant sample size of 100 units every two hours, resulting in 360 subgroups. An np control chart was employed to assess process stability, followed by Pareto analysis to determine dominant defect categories and structured root cause mapping to identify potential sources of variation. The average defect proportion was 4.2%, with seven subgroups exceeding the upper control limit, indicating the presence of special-cause variation. Crack and crawling defects accounted for 74.8% of total nonconformities and were primarily associated with drying and glazing stages. The findings indicate that the process was not fully under statistical control and requires targeted corrective actions to improve process consistency.

Abstract

In the oil and gas industry, EOR—particularly the use of surfactants—plays a strategic role in increasing oil recovery from oil and gas wells in Indonesia. Conventional oil recovery faces serious challenges in the form of declining reservoir pressure and permeability over time. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is an advanced oil recovery method employed when primary and secondary recovery methods are no longer effective. This study aims to analyze the effect of sodium lignosulfonate (NaLS) surfactants derived from sugarcane bagasse and coconut husks on oil recovery enhancement, as indicated by a decrease in interfacial tension, with surfactant concentrations of 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0%, with salinity variations ranging from 10,000 ppm to 40,000 ppm. The results of this study demonstrated the ability to reduce the interfacial tension (IFT) between oil and water, though this effect was limited to a concentration of 1.0% for sugarcane bagasse and 1.5% for coconut husk, with the resulting emulsion having the same value of 0.4 cm.
