Abstract

In petroleum operations, drilling is a fundamental process that determines the success of reaching reservoir targets. Drilling performance is greatly influenced by the characteristics of drilling mud, such as density. The composition of mud constituents, including bentonite, has the potential to affect fluid density characteristics. This study aims to evaluate the effect of variations in bentonite concentration on the density of water-based drilling mud. The experiment was conducted using a laboratory approach with a mud balance on two mud samples with different bentonite compositions. The results showed that variations in bentonite concentration did not produce significant changes in density, with both samples exhibiting relatively similar density values. This indicates that mud density is more influenced by weighting materials than by bentonite concentration. These findings provide insight into the role of bentonite in drilling mud design.

Abstract

Porous asphalt is an open-graded asphalt mixture with high air voids that allows water to flow through the pavement layer. This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastic waste on the characteristics of porous asphalt mixtures. The study was conducted experimentally using Performance Grade (PG) 70 asphalt via the dry mixing method with PET content variations of 0%, 2.5%, 5%, and 7.5% by weight of the asphalt. Testing was based on AAPA (2004) specifications with an Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) of 6%. The analyzed parameters included Marshall Stability, Flow, Marshall Quotient, Cantabro Loss, Asphalt Flow Down, and Permeability. The results showed the highest stability of 1245.81 kg at a PET content of 7.5% and the lowest Cantabro Loss of 7.32% at a PET content of 2.5%. Permeability values ranged from 0.13–0.15 cm/s. Overall, a PET content of 2.5% provided the most optimal mixture performance.

Abstract

Lost circulation in large-fracture formations is often driven by the inability of Loss Circulation Material (LCM) to maintain a stable barrier under increasing differential pressure. This study evaluates the effectiveness of various LCM formulations in forming and sustaining impermeable barriers within a 3000-micron slot. Secondary laboratory data from slotted disk tests at 200, 300, and 500 psi were analyzed using an ordinal scoring method to quantify performance. Results show that most formulations successfully create initial bridging at 200 psi; however, only multimodal combinations of granular (CaCO₃) and fibrous materials sustain sealing up to 500 psi. Blended organic cellulose fiber (BOCF) demonstrates superior performance compared to microcellulose fiber (MCF) due to better elasticity and particle interlocking. The findings indicate that LCM effectiveness depends on material synergy and particle size distribution rather than initial bridging alone. It is recommended to apply multimodal granular–fibrous formulations for severe loss conditions in large fractures.

Abstract

The suboptimal condition of road infrastructure remains a challenge in many regions, including the Arosbaya–Campor road segment in Bangkalan Regency. This road is mostly composed of red earth, which is highly vulnerable to damage caused by rainfall and traffic loads, reducing comfort and safety for road users. This study aims to analyze the existing road condition using the Surface Distress Index (SDI) method and to formulate a road preservation strategy based on technical and social data. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied through field surveys, documentation, interviews, and Pavement Condition Index (PCI) analysis. The results indicate that the road is categorized as lightly damaged, with SDI values ranging from 50% to 70%. Based on a CBR value of 6.15% and an Average Daily Traffic (ADT) of 781 vehicles, pavement thickness was designed using the 2017 Pavement Design Manual (MDP). The recommended structure includes a 40 mm AC-WC layer, 60 mm AC-BC layer, and 400 mm Class A aggregate base for road widening, while the existing pavement requires a 40 mm AC-WC overlay.

Abstract

The construction of the Jember State Polytechnic Electric Car Workshop Building is an improvement in vocational education facilities. Obstacles in terms of mismatch between the budget plan and the implementation schedule pose a risk to cost efficiency and the timeliness of project completion. This study aims to answer the main problem formulation: how the cost and time performance of the workshop building construction project is analyzed using the Earned Value Management (EVM) method. The analysis results show that performance index values such as the Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI) indicate cost efficiency but are accompanied by delays in implementation. The results of the analysis of other parameters such as CV, SV, ETC, and EAC strengthen the finding that project control still requires improvement. This study emphasizes the importance of implementing EVM as a monitoring and evaluation tool in improving the accuracy of target achievement.

Abstract

This study evaluates warehouse layout performance improvement at CV. XYZ by applying shared storage integrated with ABC analysis and rectilinear distance to minimize material handling distance. A quantitative descriptive comparative approach was employed using movement frequency and slot distance data for 12 product types. ABC classification establishes activity priority, while rectilinear distance guides dynamic slot allocation based on proximity. The results show a reduction in total material handling distance from 6,720 m to 5,280 m, equivalent to a 21.4% efficiency improvement. The contribution lies in integrating activity-based classification and distance optimization within a flexible storage scheme that outperforms static approaches. Implementation requires accurate recording systems and the inclusion of additional operational variables to improve robustness.

Abstract

This study aims to reduce the breakdown frequency of counting machines in the secondary packaging area using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) method. The main cause of breakdowns (47% of total incidents from March to April 2025) was sensor holder instability due to thin material (1 mm thickness). The improvement was made by replacing the sensor holder with 3 mm thick Stainless Steel SS304 and adding structural reinforcement. As a result, breakdown frequency decreased from 4 to 0 incidents (100% reduction), waste pack decreased from 3.2% to 1.5%, and cost savings of IDR 121,580,000 were achieved. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of the DMAIC method in improving machine reliability and production efficiency.

Abstract

Squeeze cementing is a secondary cementing method used to overcome loss circulation problems and improve well integrity. This study aims to evaluate the squeeze cementing design in the “TOKAI” well, “PALMA” field using the bradenhead method. The methodology includes well data analysis, cement slurry requirement calculations, and evaluation of job performance based on pressure testing. The bradenhead method was selected due to its operational simplicity and because it does not require a packer. The calculation results indicate that 44 sacks of cement are required to produce 9.02 bbl of slurry, including a 2 bbl squeeze volume. The evaluation shows that the squeeze cementing operation was successful, indicated by a stable positive pressure test and the presence of fluid return. This method is proven effective in isolating perforation zones experiencing loss circulation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparison of flexible pavement thickness using the Bina Marga 2017 method and Road Note 31 edition 5 on the Tawang–Ngalang Segment IV road section, Gunungkidul Regency. This research adopts a quantitative approach using secondary data, including Average Daily Traffic (ADT) from the Prambanan–Piyungan road (2021) and Gading–Playen road (2020), as well as subgrade CBR data from 2022. The analysis was conducted by calculating traffic loading parameters, including ESA and CESA in the Bina Marga method and MESA in the Road Note 31 method, followed by determining pavement layer thickness based on each method. The results indicate that the Bina Marga 2017 method produces a pavement thickness of 54.5 cm, while the Road Note 31 method yields 54 cm, with a difference of 0.5 cm. This difference is influenced by variations in traffic load calculation approaches, where the Road Note 31 method requires detailed axle load data that is not yet comprehensively available in Indonesia.

Abstract

The growing global demand for energy and the depletion of fossil fuel resources have accelerated the transition toward sustainable energy systems. Biomass has emerged as an important renewable energy source due to its abundance, carbon-neutral characteristics, and relatively stable energy supply. However, biomass has complex chemical compositions such as cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, moisture, and ash, which significantly affect combustion characteristics and energy performance. This study analyzes the relationship between biomass composition, combustion characteristics, and energy stability using a bibliometric approach. A dataset of 3,521 scientific publications from the Scopus database (2021–2026) was analyzed using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix. The results show increasing research trends in biomass combustion and thermochemical processes. However, the integration between biomass composition and energy stability remains limited, indicating important opportunities for future interdisciplinary research in biomass-based energy systems.
