Abstract

Infection is the most common ilnness in public. One of the triggers of infection is bacteria. Bidara leaf (Ziziphus mauritiana L) is a plant that has antibacterial compounds is phenolics, saponins and triterpenoids/steroids. The study aims to test antibacterial potency Staphylococcus. antibacterial activity testing was carried out using paper disc difussion methode, the etanol extract show antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus Aureus which is characterized by the presence of clear zone on the media. The results of ethanol extract of bidara leaves with concentrations of 30%, 50% and 70% against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, the average diameter of inhibitory zones respectively were 8,39 mm, 10,64 mm and 12 mm with the positive control diameter of inhibition zone was 23,46 mm, the negative control diameter of inhibition zone was 0 mm.

Abstract

Bacang mango leaves and bay leaves are plants that have been used for a long time, even bay leaves themselves are often used as cooking ingredients. Mango Bacang leaves and bay leaves contain alkaloids, phenols, tannins, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, triterpenes, polyphenols as well as essential oils. So this research was conducted to develop the use of mango Bacang leaves and bay leaves as natural medicine. The sample was determined and identified in the laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Riau University. Furthermore, the mango Bacang and bay leaves were macerated using 96% ethanol and extracted until a thick extract was obtained which would then be tested for phytochemical screening on the Bacang mango leaf extract and bay leaf extract. The results obtained that the extract of mango Bacang leaf and bay leaf extract were positive for containing flavonoid compounds, saponins and tannins so that they could be developed to be used as natural remedies.

Abstract

The rhizome of the temu mangga is a member of the Zingiberaceae family that has been used since ancient times for treatment of diabetes. The aim of this study was to examine the activity of reducing blood glucose levels in diabetic mice induced by alloxan after administration of the ethyl acetate fraction of temu mangga rhizome at a dose of 100; 200 and 300 mg/KgBW were compared with negative control (Na CMC) and positive control (Glibenclamide 0.65 mg/Kg BW). The research data were statistically analyzed using two-way ANOVA for the parameters of the percentage decrease in blood glucose and the percentage change in body weight followed by the Tukey multiple range test. The results showed that the administration of the ethyl acetate fraction of the mangga rhizome at doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg/KgBW prevented weight loss in mice compared to negative controls (p<0.05). The decrease in blood glucose levels of mice that were given the ethyl acetate fraction of the temu mangga rhizome at doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg/KgBW showed a significant difference compared to the negative control, and the dose of 300 mg/KgBW showed an insignificant difference compared to the positive control. The activity of lowering blood glucose levels is thought to be influenced by the content of terpenoid compounds.

Abstract

Vitamin C is an antioxidant compound that can prevent oxidation processes in the body. Vitamin C is naturally found in fruits and vegetables, one of which is papaya. This study aims to identify and determine the levels of vitamin C in papaya arum fruit variants in Bogor, California, and Bangkok. This study uses a descriptive qualitative and quantitative test method with UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The maximum wavelength for comparison of vitamin C is 264.6 nm. The r value obtained is 0.9956 with a linear regression equation Y = 0.0541X + 0.0791. In this study, the maximum wavelength of vitamin C in Bogor arum papaya was 264.4 nm with a concentration of 123.8 mg/100 g, California papaya 263.4 nm with a concentration of 106.6 mg/100 g, Bangkok papaya 261.2 nm. with levels of 85.2 mg/100 g. The three papaya samples contained vitamin C, marked by the maximum wavelength value in the sample being almost the same as the maximum wavelength value for the comparison standard of vitamin C.

Abstract

Protein is the most important nutrient for our body, because as a source of energy, protein alsoas a body-building substance, a regulatory substance in the body. In addition to building blocks, its main function for the body is to form new tissues (for example forming a fetus during a mother's pregnancy or new tissues during a child's growth process), as well as maintaining existing tissues or replacing parts that have been damaged. Balado seasoning is a food additive that is used as a flavoring to improve the taste of snacks, and shredded catfish is processed from catfish that contains protein so that it can be a source of protein for the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the protein content in balado seasoning with the addition of shredded catfish. Quantitative assay of protein was carried out by the Kjeldahl method, with three stages, namely destruction, distillation and titration. The samples used were samples of balado seasoning and shredded catfish. Balado seasoning does not contain protein as stated on the packaging. In this study, it was found that the protein content of the balado seasoning sample added with shredded catfish was 21,90% and the shredded catfish itself had a protein content of 33,89%. The results obtained in the analysis of protein levels in the balado seasoning after the addition of catfish shredded were higher than the balado seasoning without the addition of catfish shredded before processing.
