Abstract

Abstract

Every year, the districts and city of Agriculture Services in the Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) province report the area of agricultural land use to the NTT Provincial Agriculture and Food Security Service. The agricultural land area was measured manually by the field officers of the City and Districts of Agriculture Services. This research aims to map and measure the area of agricultural land use using remote sensing. Kupang City was used as a case study location. The remote sensing data used in this research was Landsat-9 satellite imageries from the U.S. Geological Survey in August 2022. These images were then classified based on classes paddy rice fields, non paddy rice fields, and nonagricultural fields. The classification was carried out using the Random Forest algorithm on QGIS software. This classification was based on the training sites of each land use type in Kupang City taken with GPS. The result of the research is a map of agricultural land use in Kupang City. This research shows that remote sensing allows the NTT provincial Agriculture and Food Security Service to determine the location and calculate the area of the agricultural land use in the NTT Province region quickly and accurately without a field survey. To map the agricultural land use in NTT more effectively using remote sensing, the Landsat image should be selected on the planting time. In addition, it is very important to ensure that the area on the administrative map used to crop the Landsat image corresponds to the actual area.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of entomopathogenic fungi obtained from the exploration results of the insect bait method in rhizosphere soil samples from several locations in the Bedugul area, Bali. The exploration results showed differences among the three soil samples, where the Pakcoy cultivation soil sample showed infected insect baits with Metarhizium sp. fungi. In contrast, in the Danau Buyan and Bedugul Botanical Garden soil samples, symptoms of infestation were not infected by fungi. Koch's postulate test confirmed the presence of entomopathogenic fungi in the Pakcoy cultivation soil sample, which was later identified morphologically and microscopically as Metarhizium. This study contributes to understanding the ecology of entomopathogenic fungi in the context of biological pest control, especially in sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

West Timor Island is one of the islands in East Nusa Tenggara Province, which has a dry climate and rocky geographical area, with corn as the main commodity. Corn is a staple food and ingredient to produce various traditional ethnic foods. “Jagung katemak” is one of the traditional ethnic foods made from local corn combined with various vegetables, legumes, and other spices, using simple methods and paying attention to local wisdom. However, a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of its history, constituent composition of ingredients, and the traditional processing of “jagung katemak” is still infrequent. This paper aims to uncover the history, composition of ingredients, and the traditional processing of “jagung katemak” from various sources, including books, scientific journals, and local news relevant to the topic discussed.  The study's results show that the history, composition of ingredients, and traditional processing of “jagung katemak” have been successfully revealed in detail and depth.  In addition, the challenges and prospects of developing katemak corn in the contemporary era are also comprehensively reviewed. Hopefully, “jagung katemak” can be nationally and internationally recognizable by highlighting local wisdom.

Abstract

Farmer corporations are something new in Indonesia's agricultural development process. PT Sembada Agro Lestari is a concrete manifestation of the KSPP-based corporation program in the East Ogan Komering Ulu district. The purpose of establishing a corporation is to facilitate the farming activities of fostered farmers, from providing inputs, tools, and rice seeds, buying and selling crops to processing agricultural products. Farmer corporations play a role in increasing production and meeting food needs which will impact productivity, income of fostered farmers, and the welfare of farmers in East OKU District itself. This study aims to determine the effect of the corporate approach on the productivity, income and exchange rate by analyzing differences in productivity, income, and exchange rate of farmers in Trimoharjo Village, East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency. The method used in this research is the survey method with 105 sample farmers as respondents. For sample withdrawal use proportionate stratified random sampling method. The results showed that the productivity of layer I farmers was higher than layer II farmers with a productivity difference of 1.252 kg for rice commodity and 756.94 kg for corn commodity. Furthermore, the income of layer I farmers is higher than layer II farmers with a difference of Rp13,165,826.16. Meanwhile, the farmer exchange rate (NTP) of layer I farmers is greater than layer II farmers because some layer II farmers do not store grain so farmers need to buy rice for consumption, and many layer II farmers don’t plant corn.

Abstract

Many rubber farmers even consider converting their land to other commodities that are considered more profitable or more stable. Farmers' decisions to convert land are often due to problems with economic, technical, and environmental aspects. Rubber farming faces various challenges that cause shifts in farmers' perceptions of the sustainability of this commodity. The objectives of this study were to 1) Analyze farmers' perceptions of rubber farming and 2) Analyze the relationship between socio-economic aspects of farmers' perceptions of rubber farming. This study used 112 rubber farmer respondents, with a population of 543 rubber farmers in the Lubai District. The location was selected purposely based on the same considerations, namely sub-districts, and villages that produced the largest decline in the amount of rubber land area and produced the largest rubber production. Data were collected in a cross-section. Farmers' perceptions of rubber farming based on economic, technical, and environmental aspects are fairly good, with an average score of 2.70. The economic aspect is the most influential aspect on farmers' perceptions of rubber farming activities with an average score of 2.21. The socioeconomic aspect that has a significant relationship to the perception of rubber farming is the level of education with a correlation coefficient value of 0.274913 which indicates a weak level of closeness.
