Abstract

Pain is the primary complaint among patients following a cesarean section and can hinder the recovery process. One type of non-pharmacological therapy that may be used to help reduce pain is cold pack therapy. This therapy works by applying a cooling effect to the surgical wound area, thereby helping to reduce inflammation and pain intensity. Furthermore, postoperative pain management remains suboptimal, and the use of analgesics carries side effects; additionally, based on a preliminary survey at Cilacap Regional General Hospital, there has been no specific implementation of cold pack therapy. The objective of this Community Service activity is to determine the effectiveness of implementing cold pack therapy in reducing pain levels among patients following cesarean section surgery at Cilacap Regional General Hospital. The method used involved measuring pain levels using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after cold pack application. The study included 30 participants. The results showed a reduction in pain levels after cold pack therapy was administered, with the majority of participants experiencing a decrease from moderate to mild pain. Conclusion: Cold pack therapy is effective as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention in reducing pain in patients following cesarean section surgery.

Abstract

The quality gap between urban and rural schools in Indonesia extends beyond infrastructure to encompass fundamental dimensions: weak innovation capacity, low community participation, and the absence of collaborative ecosystems among education stakeholders. This article reports the outcomes of a community service program (PKM) conducted at SDN 3 Toyomarto, Singosari, Malang, a primary school situated within the Wonosari Tea Plantation area of PTPN 12 that has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past three years. The program was designed around three core interventions: (1) building a quality culture through Total Quality Management (TQM), (2) participatory analysis of rural education dynamics and challenges, and (3) introduction of the Si Lipan model (Sistem Lumbung Inovasi Pendidikan/Education Innovation Barn System) as a locally-grounded innovation framework. Employing a participatory action approach, the program engaged 50 multi-stakeholder participants and was evaluated through a structured questionnaire with a 72% response rate (n=36). Results demonstrate significant outcomes: an overall satisfaction rate of 96%, with 80.6% of participants grasping the collaborative essence of rural education innovation and 69.4% expressing concrete commitment to initiating innovations in their own schools. These findings affirm that sustainable educational innovation in remote areas is not contingent on resource magnitude, but on leadership quality, the strength of multi-stakeholder collaborative ecosystems, and contextual alignment with local potential.

Abstract

A  Service (PKM) initiative led by lecturers and students from the Electrical Engineering Department at Mercu Buana University was conducted in Pinang Village, Tangerang City. The team successfully implemented solar-powered street lighting (PJU) and CCTV technology integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT). This program addressed security risks in poorly lit areas and reduced the high cost of conventional electricity for residents. The project was executed in the installation of eight independent (off-grid) solar-powered street lighting units and two cloud-based CCTV units. The lighting system utilizes a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor with a 120° detection angle and a range of 6–8 meters. The lights operate automatically in economy mode at 30% power and switch to full brightness at 100% power upon motion detection, significantly conserving battery energy. The success of the program was(100% power) (30% power),reduc supported by the active participation of Pinang Village residents, who facilitated administration, community management, use of facilities, and outreach preparation. Final evaluation indicated a substantial positive impact, with residents' digital technology literacy increasing from a pre-test average of 42% to 90% in the post-test. The program eliminated vulnerable areas and provided neighborhood association (RT) administrators with real-time monitoring access via smartphone. Furthermore, this green technology innovation reduced the community's self-funded PLN electricity bill by up to 100% at the installation sites a safe, energy-independent, and sustainable residential environment.

Abstract

Unhealthy social interactions among adolescents can have a negative impact on students’ social behavior, mental health, and self-care. This situation underscores the need for educational activities as a preventive measure to foster positive social behavior within the school environment. This community service activity aims to improve students’ self-care through the promotion of healthy social interactions at SMAN 3 Luwu Utara. The activity was implemented through stages of preparation, presentation of material, interactive discussion, Q&A, and evaluation. The material covered included the definition of healthy social interactions, the impact of negative social interactions, the importance of maintaining mental and social health, and the wise use of social media. Evaluation was conducted through observation and the distribution of questionnaires to assess participants’ level of understanding following the activity. The activity was attended by 25 students. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants’ average scores from 65.2 on the pre-test to 77.6 on the post-test, representing an increase of 12.4 points (19.02%). These findings indicate that the socialization method combined with interactive discussions is effective in improving students’ understanding of the importance of maintaining healthy social relationships, fostering self-care, maintaining mental health, and using social media responsibly. It is hoped that this activity can serve as a preventive measure in shaping positive character and behavior among adolescents in the school environment.

Abstract

Food safety is an important aspect of protecting public health, particularly in food products produced by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM). The misuse of prohibited synthetic food colorants remains a concern due to their potential adverse effects on consumer health. This community service activity aimed to educate consumers and UMKM producers on the importance of selecting safe food products and understanding the risks associated with synthetic food colorants. The program was conducted through industrial visits, direct observation of the production process, educational counseling, questionnaire distribution, and evaluation of respondents’ knowledge regarding food safety. A total of 30 respondents participated in the survey. The results showed that 56.7% of respondents believed that the layered crackers were produced using natural food colorants, while 16.7% assumed that synthetic colorants were used. Furthermore, 73.3% of respondents understood the concept of food safety, and 80% were aware of the dangers associated with prohibited synthetic food colorants. However, consumer consideration of hygiene aspects during food production remained relatively low. The educational activities contributed positively to improving public awareness and knowledge regarding food safety and encouraged consumers to make more informed choices when selecting food products. In conclusion, the program successfully enhanced respondents’ understanding of food safety and the potential health risks associated with prohibited synthetic food colorants. Continuous education is necessary to support the development of informed consumers and to encourage UMKM to maintain the safety and quality of their products

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB) need to be instilled starting in elementary school age as a preventive effort to reduce the risk of infectious diseases. One important indicator of CHLB constitutes the routine of Washing Hands with Soap (WHWS). Based on initial observations at SDN Godog 1 Karangpawitan, It was found that most students have not yet adopted proper handwashing techniques. This Community Service activity, conducted by the Pharmacy Study Program of Universitas Garut, intended to enhance students' knowledge and skills regarding WHWS according to WHO standards. The methods used included counseling, demonstration of the six steps of handwashing, joint practice, and questionnaires. The questionnaire results reveal an increase in students' knowledge and skills in implementing the six steps of WHWS. Educational reinforcement was provided through the distribution of WHWS step-by-step posters. This activity contributes to forming sustainable health behaviors in elementary school students.
