Abstract

This Community Service Program (PkM) was implemented in Muara Penimbung Village as an effort to address environmental pollution caused by cattle manure waste and the community’s high dependence on LPG and firewood. The program implemented a 1 m³ biogas digester technology as a renewable energy solution as well as an environmentally friendly waste management system. The implementation stages included a needs assessment survey of partners, program socialization, technical training on digester construction and operation, operational demonstrations, and continuous usage assistance. The results showed an increase in community knowledge and skills related to the anaerobic fermentation process, digester operation, and the utilization of slurry as organic fertilizer. Quantitatively, more than 80% of participants were able to operate the digester independently, and the installed system produced an average biogas output of 0.25-0.30 m³ per day, which was sufficient to meet the daily cooking needs of partner households. Furthermore, all cattle manure waste was processed more effectively, thereby reducing environmental pollution around the cattle sheds. This program had a positive impact on environmental, economic, and social aspects of the community and supported the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly clean and affordable energy, environmental health, and community capacity building. The success of this program provides a strong foundation for the future development and replication of biogas technology among other livestock farmers.

Abstract

Adolescents undergoing rehabilitation in Juvenile Correctional Institutions (Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak [LPKA]) face complex emotional and social conflicts due to their history of legal violations, environmental stressors, and separation from family. Inability to manage emotions and conflicts can hinder the rehabilitation process and increase the risk of maladaptive behaviors. This study aims to explore the emotional dynamics and conflict management strategies of adolescents in LPKA Blitar. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and thematic analysis, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and a series of emotion-based intervention activities. The interventions involved conflict simulation exercises, 4-7-8 breathing techniques, symbolic reflection using visual media such as the "Emotion Jar," and written self-commitments. The results indicate that adolescents’ conflicts were complex, encompassing both interpersonal and intrapersonal dimensions, which were characterized by emotions such as anger, regret, disappointment, and fear. Initial responses tended to be maladaptive, including verbal aggression, throwing objects, and withdrawal. After the intervention, adolescents began to restrain their impulses and express discomfort verbally. The 4-7-8 breathing technique and the “Emotion Jar” helped adolescents manage and release their emotions constructively. These findings highlight the importance of conflict management approaches that strengthen emotional regulation and incorporate positive psychology values in adolescent rehabilitation. The study has implications for the development of contextual and sustainable psychosocial programs in LPKA and similar institutions to support long-term behavioral transformation.

Abstract

Coffee-based agroforestry is a sustainable cultivation system that has the potential to enhance land productivity while maintaining ecological balance through the integration of shade trees. This study was conducted as part of the Resilient Ecological Landscape Project initiated by the Leuser International Foundation (LIF) in the Gayo Highlands, Aceh. The main objective was to establish baseline data on soil fertility and biodiversity prior to shade tree intervention, focusing on soil fertility parameters and soil macro-decomposer organisms (earthworms). The community service locations were carried out in two districts, namely Bener Meriah and Aceh Tengah, at elevations below and above 1,000 m asl, covering different soil types (Orthic Acrisols and Chromic Luvisols). A total of 60 plots were selected using purposive sampling across three land-use systems: coffee plantations with limited shade trees, coffee plantations without shade trees, and degraded or unmanaged lands. Soil fertility parameters included physical properties (texture, structure, moisture, bulk density, and solum depth), chemical properties (pH, organic carbon, cation exchange capacity, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, and macronutrients), and biological properties (microbial activity through soil respiration rate). Earthworm diversity was assessed using quadrat and hand-sorting methods by measuring species richness, abundance, and biomass at a depth of 0–30 cm. The data serve as a baseline to monitor post-intervention changes in soil quality and biodiversity, providing essential insights for sustainable coffee agroforestry management. The findings are expected to support strategies for improving coffee productivity while conserving natural resources in the Gayo region.

Abstract

The main objective of the community service projection is to assist all orphanages in Indonesia, focusing on orphanages in Medan City, in using ISAK 335 to prepare their financial reports. This will help build trust among several large donors regarding the management of their donations to the orphanage. The service method that we use is The approach used in this training program begins with an initial interview, in this service the number of interviewees is 2 people, namely the direct owner of the orphanage. And training is conducted for 3 people, namely employees of the orphanage. The training is conducted on how to make accounting records and prepare financial reports in accordance with regulations in Indonesia, namely comprehensive income statements, statements of changes in net assets, statements of financial position, cash flow statements. The time of training and socialization was carried out on December 14, 2025. The results of this service are showing that the orphanage managers feel uncomfortable because previously they were not aware of the financial reporting standards specifically for their institutions. They only keep records as a simple list of income and expenses, which is even displayed openly on the orphanage's notice board. The results of this community service show that orphanages only document their finances as basic cash inflows and outflows, without complying with the required accounting standards. The recommendations we suggest for orphanages throughout Indonesia, especially for the Solomasi orphanage, are that the implementation of financial reporting in accordance with accounting standards is expected to increase transparency and accountability in fund management, strengthen donor trust, and open wider funding opportunities, both from companies and foreign donors, thereby supporting the sustainability and development of orphanages professionally.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to improve the conceptual understanding of mathematics among 24 elementary school teachers in the 3T region of North Rupat, where mathematics instruction still tends to be procedural and insufficiently contextual. The program focused on strengthening teachers’ pedagogical and professional competencies through training in conceptual learning and the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. The community service activity employed Participatory Action Research (PAR), actively involving teachers in the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The implementation included needs identification, pre-assessment, conceptual and RME-based training, and evaluation of program outcomes. Data were collected through teachers’ understanding questionnaires administered before and after the training and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques, including mean scores, score differences, percentage improvement, and N-Gain, as well as difference testing using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The results showed an improvement in teachers’ understanding, with the average score increasing from 38.88 to 45.58, equivalent to a 13.42% increase, and an N-Gain score of 0.54, categorized as moderate. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test also revealed a significant difference between pre-training and post-training scores (Z=−3.758;p<0.001). These findings indicate that the training program was effective in enhancing teachers’ capacities and has the potential to be replicated in other 3T regions.

Abstract

The main tactic to improve health levels is empowerment-based community health development, particularly in terms of maximizing Integrated Health Posts (Posyandu) and practicing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). Problems faced by the people of Ngasem Village, Ngasem District, Kediri Regency include low knowledge and awareness of implementing PHBS, as well as the suboptimal use of Posyandu as a means of health education. The objective of this community service project is to enhance the role of Posyandu as a center for community-based health services and education, while also improving the community's understanding, attitudes, and practices regarding PHBS (Clean and Healthy Living Behavior). The implementation method uses a participatory approach through the stages of preparation, planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up. Activities include basic health services, interactive counseling, demonstrations of PHBS practices, and mentoring Posyandu cadres. The assessment uses pre-intervention tests, post-intervention tests, and direct observation of behavioral changes in the community. The results showed a significant increase in community knowledge about PHBS from 55% to 85%, proper handwashing practices from 50% to 80%, and increased community participation in Posyandu activities from 65% to 90%. Furthermore, Posyandu cadres experienced increased capacity to provide health education independently. It was concluded that this training was successful in increasing community knowledge and adherence to clean and healthy living practices. Recommendations are given for the need for program sustainability through strengthening the role of cadres, cross-sector support, and the implementation of routine and ongoing health education to achieve an independent and healthy community.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen elementary school students’ knowledge of antioxidants as a preventive effort against the adverse effects of free radicals. The activity was conducted among 17 students in grades 5 and 6, comprising 6 boys and 11 girls, through interactive health education incorporating brief lectures, discussions, visual media, and quiz-based learning games. Data were collected using a 15-item closed-ended pretest–posttest questionnaire to assess changes in students’ knowledge before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed descriptively and subsequently examined using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, as the paired data were not normally distributed. The results showed that the mean pretest sc ore of 7.41 increased to 12.47 in the posttest. The percentage of knowledge achievement improved from 49.41% to 83.14%, with a relative increase of 68.25%. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.0000, indicating a statistically significant difference between knowledge scores before and after the educational intervention. These findings suggest that school-based antioxidant education is effective in improving students’ understanding of free radical sources, the consequences of oxidative stress, and the role of consuming antioxidant-rich foods in maintaining health. This program also has the potential to support the development of preventive health literacy from an early age through a simple, contextual, participatory, sustainable, applicable, relevant, and measurable approach within elementary education settings and the wider school community. Abstract

The prevalence of post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after spinal anesthesia ranges from 27.7% to 59.3% worldwide. Both pharmaceutical and non-pharmacological treatments can be used to try to lower the incidence of PONV. Aromatherapy is one type of non-pharmacological treatment that can be used. Menthol (30–70%) and bioactive substances with spasmolytic and antiemetic effects, including as flavonoids, polyphenols, and tocopherols, are present in peppermint aromatherapy. This Community Service (PkM) initiative aims to evaluate the effectiveness of peppermint aromatherapy in treating post-spinal anesthesia pain. Thirty patients who satisfied the following requirements were included in the PkM method: they had to be undergoing elective or emergency spinal anesthesia, have a Gordon score of 0–3, be between the ages of 18 and 55, have a stable physical and mental state, be two to three hours post-surgery, and not have a peppermint allergy. The study was conducted at Gunung Jati General Hospital in Cirebon from November 5–12, 2025. It started with an educational session about PONV and the advantages of peppermint aromatherapy. After that, 5–10 drops of peppermint essential oil were added to a diffuser filled with water to deliver peppermint aromatherapy for 15 minutes. The Gordon score was used for the PONV evaluation both before and after the intervention. According to the Community Service (PkM) activity's outcomes, 36.7% of patients had a score of 1 before the intervention, while 63.3% had a score of 0. The percentage of patients with a score of 0 rose to 90.0% after receiving peppermint aromatherapy, while the percentage with a score of 1 dropped to 10.0%. Peppermint aromatherapy can be utilized to prevent and lower the incidence of PONV in patients after spinal anesthesia, according to the findings of this community service project.. The outputs of this community service activity include a pocket guide and a published article on community service.
