Abstract

Historically, the theory of quantity of money was first proposed by Irving Fisher who was one of the famous scientists of the classical period (1867-1947). The existence of the theory of quantity of money put forward by Irving Fisher made the public both practitioners and academics forget that long before Irving Fisher proposed the theory Al-Maqrizi as a Muslim scholar had initiated the quantity of money. The purpose of this study was to reveal and prove that in the field of economics Al-Maqrizi as a Muslim scholar had first initiated the quantity of money compared to Irving Fisher as a Western scientist. The methodology used in this study is qualitatively descriptive, namely by collecting documentation both from previous research and existing data then researchers analyze and explain descriptively. The results of this study state that Al-Maqrizi's thought of the concept of quantity of money at that time was more detailed and detailed than the theory of the quantity of money put forward by Irving Fisher. It's just that at that time the idea was not yet known as the quantity of money theory as it is known at this time. Keywords: Quantity of Money, Maqrizi’s thought, Muslim scholar

Abstract

AbstractThe Majelis (Assembly) of Sema'an a-Qur'an became a fairly popular tradition in the community by listening to and living the Qur'an 30 Juz. The Majelis Sema'an al-Qur'an Jantiko Mantab and Dzikrul Ghofilin are popularized by Kiai Hamim Djazuli (Gus Miek). This study explains the Moloekatan tradition derived from the Majelis Sema'an al-Quran Jantiko Mantab. Moloekatan, which means following in the footsteps of the holy angel of the coolest of animals in Sema'an al-Qur'an's activities, becomes its uniqueness in the practice of charity. Through socio-historical approaches with observation methods and interviews, this research concluded that the Moloekatan tradition became a derivative-frictions of Majelis Jantiko Mantab activities, which was directly led by one of the sons of the descendants of its founder who was equipped with the concept of riyadhah (tirakat). The form of tirakat in question is puasa (fasting). The jamaah (pilgrims) are encouraged to fast from dawn until the entry of Magrib, but in practice, not all pilgrims can observe fasting and only more emphasize to the khuffadz (memorizers of the Qur'an). The main purpose of the Majelis Sema'an Moloekatan Gus Miek is to restore the blessings of the implementation of Sema'an al-Qur'an and Dzkrul Ghofilin following the teachings of Gus Miek and sanad practice in conjunction with Gus Miek's family.Keyword: Sosio-Historical; Moloekatan; Purity; Tirakat

Abstract

The role of women is one of the most important in building a country, this shows the importance of the role of women in the nation and state. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Muslim women in the development of education in the colonial era so as to create history in the struggle of women in Indonesia. The method used in this study uses historical research methods, including Heuristics, Verification (criticism), Interpretation and Historiography. During the colonial period, Indonesia was not only colonized physically, but also mentally. There are many ways to achieve independence, one of them is through education. Indonesia has female education fighters who are rarely known by the general public, namely Rahmah El-Yunusiyah. The result of her struggle in the field of education, Rahmah El-Yunusiyah succeeded in realizing the Diniyah Puteri School, which still exists today. The results of the research obtained by the author indicate that the backwardness of women, and the opposition to the existing education system at that time was very unlikely, this made Rahmah have the initiative to release her people from backwardness, one of the ways Rahmah achieved through education.

Abstract

The colonial period in Indonesia was filled with several historical events. All of Indonesia's territory at that time was controlled by the colonialists. This also happened in the Bekasi area. This study will discuss the conditions of the Bekasi area during the colonial period. During the reign of the Dutch East Indies, Bekasi was one of the districts (kewedanan) of the regenschap of Meester Cornelis, the residency of Batavia. Then during the Japanese occupation between 1942-1945, it changed its name to Bekasi Gun. In addition, a review of the geographical conditions was also carried out when Bekasi was still a kewedanan. Then, the ethnic groups that occupy the Bekasi area are identified, namely the Sundanese, the Bekasi-Malay ethnic, and the Javanese ethnicity. Identification is also useful for getting a fairly clear picture of the cultural structure, social structure, economic structure, as well as the government system in Bekasi during the colonial period.

Abstract

The reconstruction of the development of Colonial Cities in the Dutch East Indies which experienced growth and development after the issuance of the Sugar Law and Agrarian Law encourages the implementation of this study. After 1914, Malang City experienced development and changed its status to Gemeente based on Bouwplan I-VIII. During the Dutch colonial, this city functioned as a resort city, comfortable residence, and tourist area. The presence of colonial government changed the regional typology of Javanese and Islamic characteristics that already existed in this city. The division of the area was based on ethnicity according to the existing social status. The existence of urban development and the division of the city also applies to the economic facilities of each region. This study aims to describe the development of Malang City which leads to the separation of each ethnic area and affects the potential of the economic area. This study used a historical method with the stages of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. This paper provided some findings. First, the development of Malang City during the colonial period resulted in Bouwplan I-VIII. Second, the prevailing typology of Java and Islam turned into the interests of the Colonial Government. Third, the results of urban development affect the economic value of each area or building.

Abstract

The independence achieved by the Indonesian people had to go through the twists and turns of the struggle to sacrifice property, soul and body due to the colonial nation that once controlled Indonesia, came to colonize again, namely the Dutch. So that in this struggle to defend Indonesia's independence, heroes emerged who wanted to always fight to defend the sovereignty of the Indonesian nation from Dutch influence. Adnan Kapau Gani is a perfect fighter who understands political and military issues. His thoughts in the military sector have inspired and contributed greatly to the struggle of the Indonesian people. This study aims to reveal the role of Adnan Kapau Gani in the military struggle of the South Sumatra region. The research method used is the historical method, with stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results showed that Adnan Kapau Gani had a big role in the formation of TKR Sumatra by being the organizer/coordinator which he did in Palembang. With the military already formed, Adnan Kapau Gani convinced the central government that in terms of defense it was necessary to reorganize the Sumatran TRI, so the South Sumatra Sub-Commandment (SUBKOSS) was formed and he himself served as commander in chief, as well as Deputy Minister of Defense. Then in the Second Dutch Aggression, Adnan Kapau Gani was appointed military governor of the special region of South Sumatra to lead a guerrilla war by organizing the people and fighters against the Dutch troops. So he earned the title of great guerrilla leader.

Abstract

The objective of this article is to reconstruct the political policies of the New Order government regarding inter-religious relations in Indonesia, particularly in chiming with the relationship between religious communities and the government during 1966-1998. The method applied in this research is the historical method with research steps, namely, source collection (heuristic), source analysis (criticism), interpretation and historiography). The results of the study reveal that in general the New Order government in the period 1966-1998 took a two-way policy towards the religious community, namely on the one hand developing religious life in rituals and avoiding the religious community from political discourse. From this policy, the term “Tri Kerukunan” (Tri Harmony) emerges. which indicates a tripartite relationship between religious adherents, internal religious communities, people, and the government which is more dominated by a discourse on the relationship between Muslims and the government or the state. At the level of ideological-political policies related to inter-religious relations, the government develops exclusive and centralistic policies. Meanwhile, at the socio-religious level, since the beginning, the government has developed quite pluralist policies. This pluralist tendency can be seen from the participation of extra-state elements in policy formulation. Thus the format of government policies regarding inter-religious relations is not merely religious but is framed with macro policies, especially in the fields of politics and ideology.

Abstract

After revolution period (1949-1950), Indonesians had to face several social and economic problem, urging development in all sectors of life. They needed to build public transportation, communication, education, health and agriculture, emphasizing on “developmentalism” in modernizing society. Meanwhile, Indonesia and other Third World countries also urged decolonization through anti-Westernism and anti-Imperialism. Relations between decolonization and development opened a new discourse in Third World countries in 1950’s. Constructivism approach in political science and international relations emphasize excessively on military and ideological conflicts among liberalism and communism. However, the studies ignore pragmatic view of Third World countries during Cold War in order to develop the countries in economic and social lives. Author finds that Cold War Order forced Third World countries to adapt with anti-imperialism ideology and development necessities. Third World leaders, such as Sukarno, Nehru, Nasser, did not always view Cold War from political rivalry perspective. They urged Third World countries to be strong and advance country through development of new technology. In 1959 Indonesia, for instance, established Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in order to produce future Indonesian engineers and scientists. Sukarno also built Planetarium and Observatorium in order to encourage research on astronomy science.  Cold War Order which rose after 1940’s offered opportunities for building technology. Indonesia and other Third World countries received many opportunities from Great Powers in building science and technology. In this article, author observes another story of Cold War which not only emphasizes on political and military conflict, but “cooperation” and “development” in building science and technology. Author argues that Cold War Order was not solely shape political conflict among Great Powers in Third World countries,  yet it offered opportunities for Indonesia to develop technology.
