Abstract

Effective waste management remains a significant challenge in achieving sustainable development at the community. One of the most relevant strategic approaches is the implementation of the circular economy concept through collaboration between communities and waste management institutions such as waste banks, aimed at optimizing waste management toward a sustainable green energy system. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, combining literature review and field observations in communities that have implemented circular economy models based on waste bank practices. The findings indicate that the integration of waste management with waste bank systems enhances the economic value of household waste, strengthens community participation, and creates innovative opportunities for used cooking oil as an alternative energy source, including biodiesel. Moreover, this collaborative model contributes to carbon emission reduction and improves environmental awareness at the grassroots level. Hence, the synergy between waste management and waste banks serves as a strategic framework for advancing the circular economy, supporting the transition toward green energy and sustainable community empowerment.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology in education requires elementary school teachers to integrate technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences. However, many teachers still rely on conventional teaching media and lack understanding of how to utilize digital innovations such as augmented reality in classroom instruction. This community service program aimed to improve teachers’ understanding and skills in designing and implementing interactive learning media through a training program on the use of augmented reality in elementary education. The training was conducted online using a participatory approach, which included socialization, teacher training, the implementation of AR technology in elementary school learning, mentoring and evaluation, as well as program sustainability. The results showed that the training was effective in enhancing teachers’ conceptual understanding of augmented reality, increasing their confidence in applying technology, and developing their creativity in designing interactive learning activities. It can be concluded that systematic and participatory training can effectively strengthen teachers’ technological and pedagogical competencies while promoting innovative learning practices in elementary schools.

Abstract

The economic instability in Kiarajangkung Village is caused by the community’s dependence on income from a single primary occupation. However, the community can increase its income through investment activities. This investment education program serves as an initiative to support income growth by introducing stock investment as a strategy for economic empowerment aimed at improving the welfare of young people in Kiarajangkung Village. The implementation of this community service activity used a socialization method involving village authorities and local residents. The program consisted of interactive presentations, group discussions, and the introduction of a digital stock investment application, including practical guidance on creating an account using the Ajaib Crypto platform. Reporting included participant evaluation and documentation of the activities. This program, conducted on October 27, 2025, in Kiarajangkung Village, successfully increased the participants’ understanding and knowledge of investment, enabling local youth to better prepare for effective financial management in the future.

Abstract

Shuttlecock waste accumulation from the industry could be damaging to nature. It is necessary to inform society about shuttlecock waste hazards that are difficult to biodegrade due to the feathers’ composition. Briquettes product becomes an alternative solution for reducing waste. The purpose of community engagement is to enhance public knowledge of shuttlecock waste management. The method used in the activity is public education that conducts outreach-based pre-test and post-test. The implementation of activities is located in a shuttlecock craftsman’s business house. A total of twenty-six respondents were present with worker status in the business house. The result of community engagement showed that 57.69% asserted shuttlecock waste could be made into other products, while 42.31% stated it could be reprocessed. Public knowledge of processing shuttlecock waste into briquettes is still relatively new, leading to an increase from 73.08% who reported never having heard the term ‘briquette’, to 80.77% stated that shuttlecock waste could be converted into briquettes. It is expected that improvement in knowledge will increase the economic value of shuttlecock waste, rather than selling it to a waste collector.

Abstract

The circular economy approach offers a strategic pathway to support sustainability in the mining sector by using local biomass as a renewable energy source. This study examines the potential for implementing a community-based bioenergy system in coal mining areas of South Kalimantan through the integration of biomass availability, community readiness, and reclamation land use. The research methods include a literature review, biomass potential assessment, and a community perception survey using a Likert-scale questionnaire. Three biomass sources were identified—organic waste from worker facilities, reclamation vegetation residues, and wood waste from land clearing—providing an estimated energy potential of 65–972 MWh/year. Energy Plantation Forests (HTE) on reclamation land may further supply 76–203 MWh/ha/year. Survey results indicate strong community support (76–90%) for participation and collective management. The findings highlight that circular bioenergy systems can reduce dependence on LPG/diesel while supporting local MSMEs and employment. Village energy cooperatives are recommended as the primary implementation mode.

Abstract

A common problem among elementary school-aged children is a lack of awareness of the importance of saving and a low level of environmental awareness. These two principles need to be instilled early on to foster a thrifty and responsible attitude towards the environment. This community service activity aims to educate students about the importance of saving while fostering creativity and environmental awareness through the creation of piggy banks from used materials. This program is a collaboration between students from the Community Service Program (KKN) in Cimanggu Village and SDN Handeuar, which took place from July 22 to August 26, 2025. The activity included outreach, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in creating piggy banks using used materials such as cans and cardboard. The results showed that students were very enthusiastic and were able to create various unique piggy bank designs and understand the concept of saving and utilizing used materials more deeply. This activity not only increases awareness of saving but also fosters creativity and environmental awareness from an early age. Therefore, this program can be an effective and sustainable educational tool in developing environmental awareness and a love of saving in elementary school children.

Abstract

The livestock sector on small islands in Maluku Province has the potential to optimize local agrosystems through sustainable approach that respects socio-cultural contexts. In this region, livestock farming is predominantly managed by smallholder farmers who depend on natural feed and external resources for medication and marketing purposes. Despite geographical challenges and limited accessibility, farmers can be empowered to independently utilize local resources for sustainable farming. This community service program, implemented across several islands in Maluku, aimed to enhance farmers’ self-reliance by developing backyard-based phytobiotics as a practical innovation to support eco-friendly livestock farming. Phytobiotics were formulated from readily available backyard herbs, including turmeric, ginger, papaya leaves, and betel leaves, which functioned as immunostimulants, natural antimicrobials, and feed efficiency enhancers. The program included training, demonstrations, and continuous mentoring for small ruminant and poultry farmers in several coastal villages on three islands: Ambon, Seram, and Moa. The results showed increased farmer skills in preparing phytobiotics and growing awareness of sustainable livestock farming practices. This initiative demonstrates that utilizing backyard resources for phytobiotics is an ecologically relevant solution for advancing livestock farming in resource-limited island communities.

Abstract

The collaborative project between SMKN 1 Lingsar and NGO Gema Alam NTB in Pandan Indah Village aims to implement solar-powered water pump technology as a sustainable solution for clean water supply while supporting Indonesia’s energy transition. Through stages of water needs assessment, system design, installation, operator training, and performance evaluation, a 2.5 kWp PV system with five 500 Wp modules was successfully operated without batteries. The system produced 10–12 kWh/day of energy and pumped 37–61 m³/day of water, meeting daily needs while reducing operational costs by approximately IDR 900,000 per month and lowering CO₂ emissions by about 420 kg. This program not only enhances energy efficiency and rural self-reliance but also provides contextual learning for students and strengthens community empowerment towards sustainable development through green technology innovation.
