Abstract

The practice of fasting and prayer has long been a part of Christian worship rituals, believed to promote the spiritual growth of believers. However, even positive spiritual disciplines can become negative when misunderstood. This error dates back to biblical times, when God rebuked Israel's fasting and prayer (Isaiah 58). Jesus also repeatedly touched on the importance of fasting and prayer properly. Therefore, this article aims to examine the various errors in the practice of fasting and prayer that believers need to be aware of. The method used is a qualitative literature review approach. The conclusion reached is that fasting and prayer can be misguided if done without repentance. Fasting and prayer are also not a guarantee of salvation. Therefore, the practice of fasting and prayer truly requires a clear purpose, with a desire to draw closer to God, and as an expression of faith and dependence.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the concept of Jewish exclusivity through an exegesis of Ephesians 2:11–22. By examining the historical context, rhetorical structure, and key terms in the text, this study shows how Paul interprets Christ's work of reconciliation as an act that definitively breaks down the cultic and ethnic barriers between Jews and non-Jews. Exegetical analysis reveals that the identity of God's people is no longer determined by lineage or the privileges of the Law, but rather by participation in the work of Christ's cross, which creates “one new humanity.” This finding confirms that Ephesians 2:11–22 not only rejects Jewish claims of exclusivity, but also offers a theological framework that replaces ethnic privilege with a communal identity rooted in Christ, thereby reaffirming the universal nature of the new covenant people.

Abstract

Teacher professionalism is a main and strategic component in the national education system. Teachers have the dual role of transferring knowledge (teaching) and instilling moral, social, and spiritual values (educating) in students. Law No. 14 of 2005 affirms that teachers are professionals crucial for achieving national education goals. Ideally, teachers should possess four core competencies: pedagogical, personal, professional, and social, and be able to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate learning. However, teacher professionalism in Indonesia faces significant challenges. Studies reveal consistently low performance, the use of conventional lecture methods, limited use of technology, and hindrances from external factors like insufficient training and high administrative burdens. Teacher certification has not fully resulted in significant improvements in teaching quality, and internal factors like low motivation also play a role. This situation highlights a gap between the ideal conditions and reality, necessitating in-depth research. This study aims to bridge this gap by viewing teacher professionalism holistically, emphasizing the balance between teaching and educating tasks (character building). The novelty of this research lies in the exploration of factors like values, motivation, and professional ethics, while considering the context of the school environment. Employing a descriptive quantitative approach, the research will outline the level of teacher professionalism, covering aspects such as competence, the impact of certification, school principal leadership, organizational culture, and digital literacy. The findings are expected to serve as a factual basis for formulating more effective and sustainable strategies for enhancing teacher professionalism in Indonesian education.

Abstract

The issue of same-sex marriage has become one of the most complex debates within contemporary social, legal, and Christian theological contexts. Within Christian theology, the primary challenge lies in divergent interpretations of biblical texts: whether Scripture normatively rejects same-sex relationships or whether these texts should be reinterpreted contextually in light of modern social developments. This study aims to explore the theological meanings embedded in biblical texts related to the issue of same-sex marriage. The scope of the study includes biblical interpretation, contextual and pastoral responses of the church, as well as linguistic analysis of key terms in the Hebrew and Greek languages. The research employs a qualitative approach through library research, utilizing hermeneutics as the primary method of textual analysis based on historical, cultural, and linguistic contexts. The theoretical framework is grounded in biblical foundations, particularly the creation narrative of male and female and the biblical concept of marriage. The findings indicate that the Bible consistently does not support the concept of same-sex marriage, as affirmed in passages such as Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:26–27. Homosexual practices are categorized as forms of moral and spiritual deviation resulting from the rejection of divine will. Nevertheless, the biblical message also offers a path of restoration through grace in Christ.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and develop an operational model for the implementation of Christian Religious Education (CRE) based on the Biblical mandate in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 for the nurturing of children within Christian families. The Christian family plays a vital and primary role in the faith education of children, a concept deeply rooted in the Deuteronomy 6:6-7 text. This verse emphasizes the parents' obligation to instill God's word repeatedly and consistently (continuously) and holistically, integrating it into all aspects of daily life—namely "when you sit in your house," "when you walk by the way," "when you lie down," and "when you rise up". However, field reality often shows a significant gap between this ideal condition and contemporary practice, where parents tend to delegate CRE responsibility to the church or school, leading to fragile faith in children. Therefore, this research not only reiterates the importance of the biblical command but specifically seeks to offer an applicable, measurable, and contextual implementation framework to help Christian families adapt to modern challenges such as technological disruption. The method employed is qualitative library research focusing on the design and analysis of a continuous and holistic non-formal implementation model. The results are expected to contribute a practical model for Christian parents, facilitating a shift from normative understanding to transformative faith nurturing practice.

Abstract

Essential Christian leadership is a sacred grace and responsibility that functions as a representation of Christ, rooted in two pillars: Divine Calling and Prophetic Vision. Calling is the ontological foundation that emphasizes character integrity and service, answering the question "Who am I and for whom do I lead?". Meanwhile, Vision is the teleological compass, which is God's revelation regarding the long-term purpose, answering "Where are we going?". The alignment of both should result in deep spiritual transformation and tangible social impact. However, this idealism often clashes with contemporary reality, marked by a crisis of character integrity (moral scandals and abuse of power) and a drought of prophetic vision, where leaders are trapped in managerial routines. This gap indicates the fading understanding and implementation of Calling and Vision as a cohesive unit. The originality of this research lies in its novel theological-strategic synthesis. The method employed is Qualitative Library Research with a Theological-Conceptual Analysis approach. Previous studies tend to discuss Calling (character) and Vision (strategy) separately. This study explicitly analyzes how Calling must give birth to Prophetic Vision as a strategic manifestation of obedience. The aim is to present a Holistic Transformational Leadership Model as a practical guide to bridge the gap between biblical idealism and the complexities of leadership demands on the ground, in order to maximize the impact of God's Kingdom.

Abstract

In the postmodern era, the absoluteness and authority of the Bible as the Word of God have declined in the defense of the Christian faith. This is fueled by the convenience of the digital world, which is considered capable of meeting human needs, resulting in the Bible often being placed in a complementary position, rather than as the absolute and authoritative basis for church doctrine. This analysis concludes that the evidence within the Bible itself including divine inspiration, historical providence, and confirmation by Jesus Christ is overwhelming and absolute enough to answer the claim that the Bible is the Word of God and the source of eternal salvation. As Calvin asserted, the Bible is a Scripture that declares its own authenticity.

Abstract

This article addresses the gap in theological understanding regarding the authority of Christ in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), which is often interpreted in abstract and universal terms, yet insufficiently connected to the social, cultural, and religious realities of Indonesia. Previous studies have primarily emphasized the global missiological aspects but frequently overlooked the integration of local values and the unique challenges faced by the Indonesian context. This study aims to comprehensively explore the theological significance of Christ's authority, identify its relevance for the Indonesian church, and formulate practical implications for the church’s mission. The method employed is a literature review using a contextual hermeneutical approach, combining historical, literary, and theological analyses of the biblical text with reflections on Indonesia's social, cultural, and religious dynamics. The findings reveal that the authority of Christ is not a static theological concept disconnected from worldly realities but rather a transformative power that empowers the church to carry out its mission in a relevant and contextual manner. This study also emphasizes the importance of a holistic understanding of the Great Commission, integrating spiritual, social, and ecological dimensions, so that the church’s mission becomes a participation in God's work of restoring creation. The article concludes with practical reflections on how the Indonesian church can embody the Great Commission with cultural sensitivity and prophetic courage.
