Abstract

This research aims to determine the growth response of Cordyceps militaris in several growing media, determine the best growing media for cultivating Cordyceps militaris and determine the effectiveness of cultivating Cordyceps militaris against fire caterpillar larvae (Setothosea assigna). This research was carried out using a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design method, with 3 growing media treatments, namely N1 = Bran, N2 = Rice and N3 = Corn. The number of repetition was 6. Data analysis uses Anova, where if the results showed a significant and very siognificant effect, it was continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that the growth medium had no significant effect on the density of yellow fungus and white fungus conidia, the viability of yellow fungus and white fungus condidia. The growth media of C. militaris is found in brand media, which is observed from the viability of fungus, both in yellow and white conidia, which can kill Setothosea assigna larvae which are marked in bran, rice and corn media at the age of 11-19 day after application, causing mortality between 93,34-100%,

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui inventarisasi penggunaan pestisida pada budidaya cabai merah di wilayah Kecamatan Berastagi. Budidaya cabai merah (Capsicum sp.), komoditas bernilai ekonomi penting di Karo – khususnya Kecamatan Berastagi, tetap mengandalkan sistem konvensional yang rawan serangan hama dan penyakit. Penelitian dilakukan November 2024–Januari 2025 dengan 30 responden petani (metode purposive sampling). Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara menggunakan kuesioner yang mencakup karakteristik petani, jenis dan frekuensi penggunaan pestisida, pengetahuan tentang produk, serta praktek aplikasi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar petani (53,33 %) menggunakan insektisida, sedangkan 46,67 % menggunakan fungisida. Praktik pencampuran larutan (tank-mix) dilaporkan 53,33 % petani, waktu aplikasi dominan pagi (60 %), dan frekuensi aplikasi mayoritas dua kali seminggu (50 %). Pengetahuan mengenai teknis aplikasi (seperti penyemprotan dua kali seminggu, di luar ruangan, sesuai arah angin dan cuaca baik) menunjukkan tingkat “tinggi” (antara 74–90 %), namun pengetahuan tentang legalitas dan risiko pestisida kadaluarsa relatif “cukup” (54–62 %).

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the color of the trap light on the imago of bagworms (Mahosena corbetti) in the oil palm plantation of PTPN IV Tanah Raja. The study was conducted This study was conducted in the oil palm plantation at PTPN IV Tanah Raja which is located in two (2) sub-districts, namely Sei Rampah Sub-district and Teluk Mengkudu Sub-district, Serdang Berdagai Regency with a distance of ± 56 km from Medan city and ± 30 km from Tebing Tinggi which was carried out in Afdeling V in July - August 2024. The study is a type of quantitative descriptive research, namely by using survey and experimental methods. The results of the study show that the yellow light can catch 159 individuals/plot, the white light obtained the number of imago catches of 64 individuals/plot, while the use of green light color 0 individuals/plot. To see the difference in the number of bagworm imago catches, a t-test with two paired samples was carried out. The t-test results showed a t-value of 10.46 greater than the t-table of 2.78 with a significance value of 0.000 0.05, so the number of catches in the yellow light was significantly more than the white light. It can be concluded that yellow light can be used as an effective catcher in controlling the bagworm population in oil palm plantations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of household food security and the contribution of local food resources in meeting food needs in Kolam Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method through surveys and interviews with household respondents. The results show that household food security in Kolam Village is relatively low, with 58% of households categorized as food insecure and only 42% as food secure. The utilization of local food sources, such as corn, cassava, and sweet potatoes, remains very limited, contributing only 5% and 2%, respectively, which falls under the very low category. In contrast, rice remains the dominant staple food, contributing 91%, indicating a high dependency on this commodity. These findings highlight the need to enhance local food-based diversification efforts to strengthen household food security and reduce dependence on rice.

Abstract

Kebijakan pemerintah menerapkan industri energi terbaharukan dari minyak sawit memberi peluang penyediaan bahan tanaman dalam jumlah yang sangat besar untuk memenuhi kebutuhan perluasan areal kelapa sawit. Harga pupuk yang terus meningkat setiap tahun menjadi masalah bagi produsen penyedia bibit kelapa sawit. Penggunaan pupuk organik cair (POC) dari limbah pabrik kelapa sawt dan pupuk hayati Biofertilizer merupakan salah satu alternatif untuk mengurangi ketergantungan akan pupuk anorganik yang selama ini digunakan di pembibitan kelapa sawit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberiaan pupuk organik cair pada bibit kelapa sawit dan pupuk haya biofertilizer nyata menghasilkan pertumbuhan bibit kelapa sawit di main nursery dibandingkan dengan penggunaan pupuk anorganik. Penggunaan POC dari limbah kelapa sawit pada dosis 2,25 cc per bibit per sekali aplikasi nyata lebih baik pertumbuhannya dibanding dengan penggunaan pupuk anorganik. Demikian pula pemberian pupuk hayati pada dosis 0,3% nya menghasilkan pertumbuhan bibit yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan pemberian pupuk anorganik, akan tetapi bila kedua perlakuan tersebut dikombinasikan justeru tidak lebih baik dibandingkan dengan pemberian pupuk anorganik.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of goat manure and mycorrhiza on the growth and yield of melon plants (Cucumis melo L.). The research was conducted at the Experimental Field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Medan Area, from February to May 2025, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with a factorial arrangement of two factors: goat manure dosage (0, 10, and 20 tons/ha) and mycorrhiza concentration (0, 5, and 10 g/plant), with three replications. The observed parameters included plant height, leaf area, number of fruits, fruit weight per plant, and sweetness level. The results showed that the combination of goat manure and mycorrhiza significantly affected the growth and yield of melon plants. The treatment combination of 20 tons/ha goat manure and 10 g/plant mycorrhiza produced the highest plant height, fruit weight, and sugar content. The integration of these two organic inputs improved nutrient uptake efficiency, enhanced soil structure, and increased fruit quality. This approach has the potential to serve as an environmentally friendly cultivation strategy for sustainably increasing melon productivity.

Abstract

Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L) are one of the most important horticultural commodities with high economic value and play a crucial role in improving farmers’ income in highland areas. This study aims to: (1) analyze the factors that influence potato production in Nagalingga Village, Merek District, Karo Regency; and (2) determine the effect of land area, labor, capital, seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides on farmers’ production levels. The analytical method used in this study was the Cobb-Douglas production function with multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that land area, labor, capital, seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides simultaneously had a significant effect on potato production. Partially, the land area was found to have the most dominant influence on production increase. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.992 indicates that these independent variables are able to explain 99.2% of the variation in potato farmers’ production levels.
