A communication process can be considered success when the communicant receives and understand the message as what the communicators meant. This effective communication will result in the achievement of a communication goal. However, the effective communication might be difficult to happen when both interlocutors do not have the same native language. It happens because the language barriers may influence the process of understanding the message while the communication happens. To overcome the problem, the communicator applies some communication strategies. This comparative study used observations and interviews to examine the communication strategies used by first- and third-year English students of Universitas Gadjah Mada Indonesia during spoken interactions in English with exchange students from Cheng Du Textile College China. The objective of this study is to observe how the first- and third- year study overcome their communication problem while talking with non-English native speaker students and use the data as inputs to develop the next curriculum. The writer uses Tarone’s communicative strategies to identify the students’ strategies. The result shows that ‘Literal Translation’ is not used by English students while communicating with exchange students, ‘Circumlocution’ and ‘Message Abandonment’ are only used by third year students, ‘Appeal for Assistance’ and ‘Topic Avoidance’ are only used by first year students, third year students’ most used strategies are ‘Mime’ and ‘Word Coinage’, and first year students’ most used strategies are ‘Approximation’ and ‘Mime’.

This study aims to examine the perceptions of employees of the Accounting Section in Batam related with the influence of individual factors on the intention of conducting internal and external whistle-blowing. Intention is someone's desire to behave. The results of this study are expected to add understanding related to the perception of accounting employees to intentions of internal whistle-blowing and external whistle-blowing. The research team also hopes that the results of this research can be an input for companies in Batam, to design whistle blowing systems and report unethical acts at work, so as to detect fraud and ultimately good corporate governance can be created. The method used to obtain research data is through questionnaires distributed to employees of the Student Accounting Study Program of State Polytechnic of Batam who work as an accountant. The collected questionnaires were analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results of this study indicate that there is influence of whistle-blowing attitude toward intention to perform internal whistle-blowing, there is influence of subjective norm to intention to conduct external whistle-blowing, there is influence of perception behavior behavior to intention to do internal whistle-blowing. On the other hand, there is no effect of attitudes on whistle-blowing on intentions to external whistle-blowing, no subjective subjective effect on intent to conduct internal whistle-blowing, no influence of perceptual behavior control on intent to external whistle-blowing.

This study aims to find out individual’s performance based on their cognitive orientation towards incentive system. This study refers to a previous study (Naranjo-Gil et al., 2012) that tested similarly that the study was conducted in Indonesia which has a different culture with the previous research’s origin country. This study used case study method with college student respondent that had economics background. The results of this study revealed that some conclusions. First, individual behavior in completing tasks tends to match with their cognitive orientation. Second, there was a difference between individualism cognitive orientation when they given to team-based structure incentive system. Third, there are differences in collectivism cognitive orientation groups when they given to an individual-based structure incentive system. The most appropriate incentive system used to improve the group performance which respect to the cognitive orientation group members is the team-based incentive system.

Every language in the world is the primary tool for its speakers to communicate with each other. Each language has its own uniqueness so that no language is more special than others. One of its uniqueness that is worth to discuss is a large number of lexemes one language has, while other languages only have a small number of vocabularies to explain a particular concept. This study focuses on the lexeme in Javanese language with 'to search' as the core meaning. The number of lexemes that are generally represented by the word golek‘to search’ include: njala, ngarit,mancing, etc. This study aims to show the differences between them by looking at the meaning components possessed by the lexemes. The data in forms of lexemes were obtained by using introspection method. The meaning of these lexemes then was ascertained with the help of dictionaries and interviews with other Javanese native speakers. Structural semantic analysis theory by Nida (1975) was used to analyze the meaning of those lexemes. The usage of lexemes in sentences were used to show the differences between lexemes, especially those with the same meaning components. From at least fifteen lexemes with 'to search' as its core meaning found in Javanese language, there are six dimensions of meaning that distinguish them. The six include, SOURCE OF POWER, OBJECT, OWNERSHIP, INTEREST, PLACE, and SUBJECT. Although some of the lexemes have similar components of meaning in several dimensions of meaning, there are still differences in meaning components between the lexemes. This reinforces the opinion that no two words are absolute synonyms or have exactly the same meaning.

Globalization demands the development of communication media, which is TV advertisment. Indonesian political dynamics is one of the most unique and fresh studies discussed in various perspectives. It concerns ondecision making and ethical political differentiation that empirically influences the political legitimacy in political representation. Digital politics is very popular within the society it could be categorized as swing voters. Digital politic is growing close to the 2019 general election as the effort of low politics tendencies that can be analyzed using the cultural value. Political parties have a polarization to use TV advertisement to be a media for socialization their political goals. The implementation of this style is usually called politics entertainment. This research explains the influence of digital political style and entertainment politics with TV advertisement on the level of electability of political parties in the general election 2019 through data interpretation method. The research is conducted as a means to explain the understanding ofmass polarization in online setting. Additionally, it is also purposed to know the effectiveness of digital politics and entertainment politics in its use in the 2019 general election.

The object of this research in Giriharjo Village which has potential trees that can be used for making wooden crafts. The kind of tree is sonokeling. Sonokeling has a strong texture with brownish purple fibers. Sonokeling wood is high quality wood and it used for home decor, wooden watch, flashdisk cover and various other products. This research was carried out on since October 2018 – Mei 2019. The research method used qualitative- study case approach. The data collection technique through in depth interview, observation and documentation . The research result showed that in Giriharjo Village , there are BM creative woods group that make wooden crafts. However, this group has a problem to continue production process because the human resources have a lack of interest and constraints in marketing strategy. Therefore, innovation is needed that includes: institutional strengthening, cultivation sonokeling plants and internalization effective marketing strategy. Penelitian ini mempelajari kecenderungan arah penelitian yang dilaksanakan oleh mahasiswa fkip Universitas Bung Hatta pada pelaksanaan tugas akhir. Sasarannya 10 orang mahasiswa dari tujuh program studi dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 70 orang. Analisis data secara deskriptif, t-test . Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa arah penelitian yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa pada tugas akhir memperlihatkan kecenderungan mengarah pada penelitian eksperimen, diikuti dengan penelitian survei, dan penelitian pengembangan. Uji t-test menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara penelitian yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa laki-laki dengan mahasiswa perempuan terutama arah penelitian eksperimen lebih tinggi dilakukan oleh mahasiswa perempuan di banding dengan mahasiswa laki-laki. Implikasi penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa lebih memahami penelitian eksperimen dibanding dengan penelitian yang lain. Oleh sebab itu para dosen yang mengajar metode penelitian pada berbagai program studi dapat memberikan materi yang seimbang untuk berbagai jenis penelitian.

Pabrik gula, merupakan salah satu sarana untuk memperoleh pemasukan ekonomi bagi pemerintahan Belanda di Indonesia pada masa lalu. Di Yogyakarta, terdapat 17 (tujuhbelas) pabrik gula yang beroperasi hingga masa penjajahan Jepang. Saat ini hanya ada satu pabrik gula di Yogyakarta, yaitu Pabrik Gula Madukismo yang berada di bawah manajemen PT. Madubaru. Di samping pabrik gula, ada juga pabrik spiritus yang dijalankan. Sejak tahun 1955, pabrik ini memiliki sebuah ritual maupun upacara adat yang dimulai menjelang proses penggilingan dan penyulingan tebu di PT. Madubaru. Kegiatan ini dinamakan Upacara Giling dan Suling. Prosesi Upacara Giling dan Suling, memiliki rangkaian kegiatan yang cukup banyak (sekitar 15 kegiatan tradisi) sebelum akhirnya tebu digiling. Meskipun kegiatan ini telah berjalan lebih dari 50 tahun, akan tetapi saat ini alasan dan makna mengapa kegiatan tersebut dilaksanakan, semakin kabur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna dibalik semua proses dalam Upacara Giling dan Suling yang diadakan oleh PT. Madubaru. Penelitian dilakukan secara kualitatif, dengan menitikberatkan pada hasil dari proses observasi secara langsung dan wawancara secara mendalam (in-depth interview). Di samping itu, studi pustaka yang sesuai dengan tema, juga menjadi acuan dalam penelitian ini, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan menguak makna simbolis maupun filosofis dari berbagai macam sarana upacara yang dilakukan di PT. Madubaru. Hasil analisis dibuat dengan merangkai hasil metode penelitian dengan teori-teori terkait, serta hasil observasi dan wawancara di lapangan. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan mampu memberikan pemahaman kepada masyarakat mengenai tradisi Upacara Giling dan Suling, serta makna-makna yang terkandung di dalamnya. Sehingga prosesi tersebut tidak menjadi sekedar rutinitas dengan embel-embel ‘menjaga tradisi’, akan tetapi juga menjadi identitas yang dapat dinikmati oleh banyak pihak.

Institusi pendidikan tinggi mendapatkan manfaat yang besar dari ranking universitas (Hemsley-Brown et.al., 2016). Efek dari ranking universitas membantu universitas menarik mahasiswa terbaik dan pendanaan penelitian (Wilkins dan Huisman 2012). Sedangkan penentuan ranking universitas di tingkat internasional memiliki bermacam-macam kriteria penilaian, salah satunya adalah jumlah publikasi riset yang terindeks Scopus. Saat ini Pemerintah Indonesia memberikan otonomi pengelolaan keuangan kepada institusi pendidikan tinggi. Apakah otonomi tersebut memiliki peran untuk meningkatkan ranking universitas melalui peningkatan jumlah riset yang terindeks Scopus? Penelitian ini menggunakan data dari 5 (lima) universitas negeri berbadan hukum, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Padjajaran, dan Universitas Sumatera Utara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan otonomi keuangan universitas berpengaruh positif terhadap ranking pada level 1% dan pengeluaran penelitian terhadap ranking universitas pada level 5%. Pengeluaran penelitian memediasi penuh (full mediating) hubungan antara otonomi keuangan universitas terhadap ranking universitas.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas jasa pendidikan tinggi di Yogyakarta berdasarkan kebutuhan dari mahasiswa sebagai pengguna jasa pendidikan di Yogyakarta dengan menggunakan model HedPERF. Instrumen HedPERF digunakan sebagai alternatif dari instrumen lain yaitu SERVQUAL karena dianggap lebih mampu menjelaskan gagasan terkait dengan kualitas layanan di pendidikan tinggi. Model HedPERF yang digunakan adalah analisis Quality Function Deployment untuk menghubungkan antara suara konsumen yang berisi kebutuhan dari sisi pengguna jasa dengan suara perusahaan yang berisi parameter-parameter teknis dalam meningkatkan kualitas layanan dari sisi penyedia jasa. Ada enam dimensi dalam model HedPERF yaitu dimensi aspek non akademis, aspek akademis, reputasi, akses, kesesuaian program, dan pemahaman terhadap pengguna. Penelitian ini menggunakan data primer yang bersifat cross-section. Rata-rata dari setiap dimensi kualitas layanan di sisi pengguna jasa dibandingkan dengan faktor-faktor dalam pengelolaan jasa yang mempengaruhi kualitas layanan sehingga informasi tersebut dapat dimanfaatan oleh pemangku kepentingan untuk melakukan perbaikan dalam rangka meningkatkan kualitas layanan jasa pendidikan.
