Abstract

In the era of globalization education is very important, because education can create human beings who are of high quality, character, and have broad insights. The purpose of this study was to find out that the use of project-based learning models can increase motivation and student learning outcomes in fraction material in class V of Elementary School (SD). This research is classroom action research conducted through 2 cycles using the spiral model by C. Kemmis and MC. Taggart. The subjects in this study were fifth grade elementary school students with a total of 24 students. The data collection technique uses a comparative descriptive method by comparing the results before the action is given, namely, the pre-cycle until the action is completed. In the pre-cycle stage, the percentage of students' learning motivation was obtained by 29.1% in the medium category, 70.8% in the low category and for the high category at this pre-cycle stage, 0%. Then gradually in cycle 1 it increased to 33.3% in the high category, 45.8% in the medium, and 20.8% in the low category. Finally, in cycle 2, there was a significant increase in the high category, namely 83.3%, medium 12.5%, and 4.1% low category. The increase in students' learning motivation also affected their learning outcomes, where in the pre-cycle the percentage was 41.6%, and it experienced a gradual increase in cycle 1 with a percentage of 66.6%. Phase 2 cycle also increased with a percentage of 83.3%. In conclusion, using the project-based learning model can support student learning activities in increasing motivation, and students' mathematical learning outcomes in the subject of fractions in elementary school.

Abstract

The concept of derivatives is an important concept in the field of Calculus to be studied and taught at school and university levels. However, understanding derived concepts that do not fully involve the meaning of various representations has the potential to trigger a combination of concept descriptions with formal concept definitions as well as learning challenges or learning obstacles in epistemological, ontogenic and also didactic aspects. Therefore, the research carried out aims to observe the context of the knowledge that will be taught as one of a series of didactic transposition processes in order to obtain transpositional knowledge that is relevant to be taught. The research method used is qualitative research with a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. The participants involved in the research were 38 students who were prospective mathematics teachers from one of the universities in West Java. The research results show that there are inaccuracies in the presentation of ideas and concepts related to the knowledge to be taught, especially in the definition of derivative concepts. The mismatch between formal concept definitions and participant concept descriptions in learning by referring to mathematics textbooks which are used as the main reference results in learning obstacles for the subjects so that there is a need for repersonalization and recontextualization as an effort to produce more meaningful knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of students' Mathematical Creative Thinking Ability (MCTA) in learning mathematics with the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach. So that the goals that have been set can be achieved, quasi-experimental research is carried out with the design of the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population of this research is the students of class X SMA Negeri 2 Padangsidimpuan. The research sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique, namely class X MIA 3 for the experimental group and MIA 4 for the control group. The research carried out showed that the results of the MCTA students through the Independent Samples Test obtained a significance level of 0.00 <0.05. This means that there is a significant average difference between the increase in the MCTA of the experimental group students and the control group. Furthermore, the average value of the N-gain score for the experimental group is 0.41 and the control group is 0.29. This means that the improvement of students' MCTA through the CTL approach is better than learning with the conventional approach. Furthermore, with two-way ANOVA analysis, obtained a significance level of 0.196> 0.05. This means that there is no interaction with initial abilities with the learning approach in improving students' MCTA.

Abstract

The research aimed to optimize students’ mathematical solving abilities through the implementation of a didactic design developed based on lesson study activities on triangular number patterns. The research design used was didactical design research. Participants in the study were 10 students (12–15 years old) at a junior high school in Mataram, Indonesia. The researcher was the main instrument, with several additional instruments, one of which was the didactic hypothesis design. The data were analyzed using qualitative analysis. The research results revealed an increase in students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities during the implementation of didactic design on triangular number pattern material. However, the increase that occurred was less than optimal. This increase resulted from the didactic design encouraging students to use Quizizz, geoboards, and inspirational videos to solve problems. However, when watching inspirational videos and Quizizz, there were problems, such as an unstable internet connection, so activities that should have been done in groups were done collectively for one class.
