Arabic language education background has an important relationship with students' reading skills, however the situation in each place of learning is different, where public schools do not teach Arabic, while Islamic religious-based schools are the opposite. This article aimed to find 1) the educational background of students; 2) students' reading skills; and 3) the relationship between educational background and reading skills. Researchers used quantitative methods with the research subjects of seventh grade students of MTs Salafiyah Syafi'iyah Seblak Jombang. The results of the research showed 1) the educational background of the percentage of students who voted strongly agree 40%, 43% agree, 15% disagree, and 2% strongly disagree; 2) the students' ability to read Arabic at a very good level of 53.57%, good 33.92%, and not good 14.28%; and 3) there were a relationship between educational background and reading ability of students based on the value of Sig2 tailed = 0.466 which is greater than 0.05. This shows that Islamic religious-based schools encourage students to have Arabic reading skills.

Learning is a unit consisting of various factors that support each other. In learning Arabic, it is not only teacher factors and Arabic language material that must be considered, students as second language learners also need attention for the success of learning. The purpose of this article was to describe the role of psycholinguistics in learning Arabic for non-native speakers. Researchers used literature review to extract data from various sources. From the data obtained, it was known that the role of psycholinguistics in learning Arabic makes teachers able to understand the processes that occur in students when they listen, speak, read, or write. Psycholinguistics as an applied science between psychology and linguistics can be used to understand the behavior of second language learners, language acquisition, and language production and the processes that occur in it.

Learning Arabic that is applied to the Darut Tholibin Al-Qodiri 2 Gumukmas Islamic Boarding School in Jember has left problems, especially in the field of mahārah kalām. Mahārah kalām is a skill that requires students to be active in communicating verbally using Arabic. This article aimed to describe the problems of learning Arabic in the field of mahārah kalām to students of Darut Tholibin Al-Qodiri 2 Islamic Boarding School Gumukmas Jember. Researchers used qualitative methods to discuss the problems of learning Arabic in mahārah kalām. The data showed that there are two types of problems faced by students of the Darut Tholibin Al-Qodiri 2 Gumukmas Islamic Boarding School in Jember; linguistic problems and non-linguistic problems. Linguistic problems related to the system of morphology, syntax, and semantics. Meanwhile, non-linguistic problems were related to sociological, psychological, and pedagogical issues. This problem becomes an obstacle for students to achieve success in learning Arabic.

Students need contextual Arabic learning to improve Arabic language competence that is relevant to the target language environment through using of internet sites as alternative teaching materials such as those contained in Learning Aljazeera site. This article aimed to discuss Learning Aljazeera site as an alternative teaching material in Arabic learning based on contextual teaching and learning. Researcher used contain analysis method to discuss and analyze the site. From the data analysis, it showed that the material on the site consisted of media language and general language that prioritized fahm al-masmūʻ and fahm al-maqrūʻ through various topics based on student level in addition to basic materials such as phonology and syntax. Learning Aljazeera sites can support the needs of learning Arabic today and can be used for contextual learning purposes in Arabic lessons.

Each Arabic language competency has different ways of conducting tests to measure students' language skills, especially mahārah al-kalām which nota bene measures the ability to produce Arabic orally. This article aimed to develop mahārah al-kalām test formulation in the field of Arabic language learning. Researcher used qualitative methods to discuss mahārah al-kalām test from various sources. The data showed that the content of the test was related to the ability to pronounce Arabic sounds, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and understanding, each of which had detailed criteria to be the background for the preparation of mahārah al-kalām test material. The language component is needed to emphasize the importance of the ability to communicate spoken Arabic correctly.

Teachers need to have innovations in teaching Arabic conversation through the right method in order to obtain maximum results. This article aimed to describe the application of the role playing method in Arabic conversation at MTs Gayam Kadur Pamekasan. Researchers used a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. Some of the obstacles in learning conversation with role playing were that the teacher did not understand it well, differences in student abilities, lack of teaching materials, and it takes a lot of time and a large space. The application of role playing has a high level of effectiveness if it is supported by the ability of teachers and student motivation in addition to a pleasant learning atmosphere.

Arabic students need to have proficiency in using Arabic grammar both syntactically and morphologically. This article aimed to measure student grammar proficiency and analyze error answers to the Arabic language education students of Institut Agama Islam Al-Falah As-Sunniyyah Kencong Jember, class 2018-2019 with objective test instruments taken from Learning al-Jazeera.net website. This article used a qualitative approach with documentation as a data collection technique. A total of 54 samples found an average grammar proficiency of students in that batch of 54.5%. These results indicated the students' ability to occupy the upper intermediate level. Understanding grammar functionally and observing its syntactic effects needs to be emphasized in learning so that students can construct or analyze sentence structures correctly.

Learning Arabic-speaking skills is a must for Arabic learners. Several methods are often practiced in learning to speak Arabic. Educators need to pay attention to the typology of their students so that they can choose the right method. This research-oriented was to evaluate the relevant methods for studying Arabic communication. In this article, the researcher used a qualitative method with data sources from the literature documentation. The results of this research found that there were advantages and disadvantages to each method that was used to train students' speaking skills. Success in using the method depended on the competence of educators in applying it, supporting media, and teaching materials that were appropriate to the context of the learner. To achieve Arabic-speaking skills, a combination of various elements in learning is needed.

Sociolinguistics is a science that discusses the use of language in society and how language can be embedded in social relations in society, the social background of a speaker and the meaning of what is conveyed, and issues that touch the character and social identity of a speaker. The existence of a social environment is one aspect that determines success in teaching foreign languages. The purpose of this article was to specifically explain the role of sociolinguistics in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. Researcher used descriptive qualitative approach by reviewing indepth sociolinguistic theories in playing a role in learning Arabic to non-native speakers. The results of the research showed that sociolinguistic theories had strong correlation in teaching Arabic for non-native speakers. Sociolinguistics can be used as a guide in preparing learning tools and solving practical problems in teaching Arabic.

Teachers have a vital role in the success of student learning at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 1 Jember. Teachers need to have competence in teaching and educating. The purpose of this article was to describe the teacher's role as a source of knowledge, motivator, and learning model. This study used a phenomenological qualitative approach. Data collection methods were observation, interviews, and documentation. Research findings indicated that teachers hold most of the parts in the success of the teaching and learning process. The success of student learning was highly dependent on the role of the teacher. The teachers act as a source of information that they apply interested teaching-learning process and show students how to learn creatively and effectively.
