Abstract

The learning process of mathematics in class VIII1 shows that there are still many students who are less active, creative and not independent. One of the causes of students' lack of creativity in mathematics learning is classical and conventional learning systems, namely guruselain learning that is the habit of students in mathematics learning often mimic the duties of friends, there is no desire to look for material from other sources and lack of opinion. To overcome these problems, the problem formulation in this study is whether the Resource Based Learning approach can improve student creativity on the subject of circles in class VIII1 of Padangsidimpuan Middle School 8, this study aims to improve student creativity through the application of the Resource Based Learning approach on the subject ligkaran in class VIIII of SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan.This research was conducted in class VIIII of SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan, having its address at Jl, Tengku Rizal Nurdin, Km.8 Pijorkoling Padangsidimpuan Tenggara. This research was conducted in the even semester of the 2013-2014 academic year consisting of 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of 2 meetings and 4 stages, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. The subjects of this study were class VIIII students totaling 32 people. The instruments of data collection used in this study were observations supported by questionnaires and interviews.Based on the results of the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the results of observations of students 'creativity with the application of the Resource Based Learning approach in the first cycle of the 1st meeting of students' creativity are still low, that is, an average of 43.6%, then at the second meeting which is 64.2% of what is expected so that the researcher must continue the research to cycle II. In the second cycle the third meeting of students' creativity became 74.3% then at the 4th meeting which was 85.4%. While the results of the questionnaire in the first cycle with an average of 66% and in the second cycle to 80%. Based on observations supported by questionnaires and interviews, it can be concluded that the application of the Resource Based Learning approach succeeded in increasing students' creativity on the subject of circles in class VIIII SMP Negeri 8 Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

The purpose of the efforts of teachers to overcome student learning difficulties in order to find out the efforts made by teachers to overcome the difficulties of students learning mathematics in fractions in class VII SMP Negeri 7 Padangsidimpuan. This research is a classroom action research conducted using the cycle method. The instruments used are observation and test in the form of essays.Based on the results of the study, it was found that the students' initial abilities in the fraction material through the learning model, this can be seen and the increase in the results of the average initial test scores of all students was 65 and the number of students who passed 5 students with a percentage of 20% and 25 students. In the  first cycle test meeting 1 with an average score of all students, namely 69.08 and the number of students who graduated 13 students with a percentage of 52% and 25 students. In the second session of the first test session, the average of all students was 72.6 and the number of students who graduated was 15 students with a percentage of 60% and 25 students. While the second cycle of meeting 1 test with an average value of all students is 78.2 and the number of students who passed 19 students with a percentage of 76% and 25 students. In the 2nd meeting cycle II test with an average value of all students, namely 82 and the number of students who graduated 21 students with a percentage of 84% and 25 students. Based on the percentage of graduation students have reached the desired level, this study was stopped until the second meeting of the cycle II.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to solve mathematical problems with the application of realistic mathematics learning. From the students' initial abilities, it can be seen that students in class V MIN 2 Padang sidimpuan still have a fairly low average grade. The study used classroom action research as much as 2 cycles. The subjects of this study were students of class V MIN 2 Padangsidimpuan which were primary data. The research instrument in this study was a test of students' mathematical problem solving abilities and observation sheets. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the average increase in students' mathematical problem solving ability from the initial test is 19.833 (19.833%) categorized as very poor to 51.083 (51.083%) which is not good enough in the first cycle and becomes 83.083 (83.083%) in the good category in the cycle II.

Abstract

Critical thingking is thr ability to examine or analyze a source, to identify therelevant and irrelevant source, to identify and evaluate the assumtions, to implement strategies, to make decisions according to the assessment standarts. Critical thingking in mathematics is very important, because in everyday life the way a person directs his life depending on his/her believe statement, statement of receipt. Critical thingking makes people to analyze their own thingking to ensure that he has the choice and draw intelligent conclusion. Meanwhile, people who do not think critically, he can not dicide for himself what to think, what to believe and how to act. Having failed to think independently, he would imitate others, adopted the beliefs and accept the conclusions of others in passive. fordesigning mathematical problem that are expected to improve critical thingking skills, mathematical teacher must understand correctly what is desired and about which indicators will be developed. One problem may contain several indicators to be developed, but it must be considered the ability of students. It is no less important to note that critical thingking is as one of the high-level thingking skill so that not all students can achieve this level well. The role of a teacher and guidance is needed, so it can give help to every student.

Abstract

This study discusses the problems faced by students in solving real number problems and analyzing the causes. This type of research is qualitative research using descriptive analysis. Data collection methods used in this study are documentation of UTS results and interviews. The results of this study indicate that the difficulties experienced by students in completing real number problems: (1) difficulties in understanding the concept and applying it, (2) difficulty manipulating the numbers and symbols. Errors made by students to solve real number problems are an explanation of the difficulties experienced by students. The factors that cause students to overcome the problems of the basic concept of real numbers, students are still having difficulty in understanding the use of the concept of real numbers, are less careful in solving problems so they are wrong in translating symbols, student learning patterns that are not good are not supported by learning resources adequate material and difficult to repair.

Abstract

The background of the research is students’ comprehension of two dimentional figure was low. It caused learning meadia that used by teacher was less varied and it cannot attract students’ attention in learning. So, students’ have difficulties to retell a concept that they have learned with classified characteristic of plane figure, determine circumference and area of plane figure. The purpose of this research was conducted to know the effect of using Software Geometer Sketchpad V4 toward students’ figure concept comprehension at VII class of SMP Negeri 11 Padangsidimpuan.The theories that used in this research is Bruner Theory about the important of comprehension about the best way for student’s to learning concepts or in mathematics principle was constructed a representation from the concepts itself, and Ausubel theory is about learning meaning concepts.This research is quantitative research with experiment method used Pretest-Posttest Control Group Desain. The population in this research is students at VII Class SMP Negeri 11 Padangsidimpuan that has total class is 3 class, with 70 students. The researcher taken the sample used cluster random sampling techniqueis 43 students. Sample in experiment class that give treated are 23 students and control class that untreated are 23 students. Data processing and data analysis is done with used formula Uji t.Based on normality test and homogeneity test from the both of classes were normally distributed and homogeneous. The Test of t-test is obtained from the result of hypotheses that show Tcount = 3,603 Ttable = 2,015, so Ho was rejected and Ha was be ajjected. It concluded there is a significant effect of software geometer sketchpad V4 toward students’ two dimentional figure comprehension concept at VII Class of SMP NegeriPadangsidimpuan.

Abstract

Formative assessment is the evaluation conducted at the end of the discussion of a subject/ topic, and is intended to determine the extent to which the learning process has been running as planed. In assessing the formative test a science teacher in the learning process must run in certain situations. Therefore in the learning process students should have early knowledge base or IPA as a condition for getting Knowledge to a higher level. With prior knowledge of the students in science teaching and learning process, the teacher can assess the results of their study. From the results of this evaluation will be obtained picture of anyone who has been successful and who is considered to have not managed to take further appropriate actions. Learning outcomes that occur because of changes in student behavior that can be observed and measured in terms of changers in knowledge, attitudes and skills. In learning science learning outcomes can be measured by the ability of the students themselves gain knowledge about the natural environment, develop skills, insight, and awareness of the technology in relation to their use for everyday life.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the effect of the application of the mathematical realistic approach toward the students’ mathematics disposition. This study used a pre-experimental research design with a sample cluster random sampling technique. The experiment was conducted in SMA Negeri 4 Padangsidimpuan with the overall population of students of class XI IA second semester of the 2011/2012 academic year  which consist of 5 classes as many as 163 students, while the sample of this study was  class XI IA-1 which consist of 31 students. The instrument used the validated questionnaire. The experiment class was given pretest before treatment and posttest after treatment. Learning by using realistic mathematics approach provided significant influence on students' mathematical disposition. This was indicated by t-test were obtained t-hitung = 9.8 and t-tabel = 2.042. The data fulfilled the test of the hypothesis which is if t-hitung ≥ t-tabel then H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, which means there was a significant influence of the application of mathematical realistic approach Indonesia (PMRI) toward the students’ mathematics disposition at class XI IA-1 SMAN 4 Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

This research was conducted to see the extent of students' understanding of concepts and mathematical communication after being treated with learning using the RME and CTL approaches. The approach used in this research is quantitative with a type of quasi-experimental research. The population as well as the sample in this study were 2 classes with a total of 70 XI MAS PAB 2 Medan Estate students. Next to find out the understanding of concepts and mathematical communication students are given a description test. To process the data obtained using ANACOVA; The results of the data analysis test concluded: the level of understanding of the concepts of students who were treated with the RME approach was lower in influence than students who were treated with the CTL approach. The mathematical communication of students who were treated with the RME approach was less influential than students who were treated with the CTL approach. The level of understanding of mathematical concepts and communication of students who were treated with the RME learning approach was lower in influence than students who were treated with the CTL learning approach. Data analysis concluded that there was an interaction effect of applying the learning approach to students' understanding of concepts and mathematical communication.
