Abstract

This study aims to study how to facilitate student learning in complex analysis courses in mathematics study program at IAIN Padangsidimpuan. The population of this study is the sixth semester students of the IAIN Padangsidimply mathematics mathematics study program 2017/2018 academic year. The sampling technique was done by cluster random sampling, namely the semester VI TMM-1 which passed 27 people in the mathematics study program IAIN Padangsidimpuan. The research method used by the writer is descriptive method. The data collection techniques in this study were questionnaires (questionnaires). The data obtained were analyzed using hypotheses using the Pearson Product Moment estimation formula and to find out whether there was a significant effect using the "t-test" formula. From the results of the research obtained conclusions from the results of the research obtained from the evaluation of student learning activeness in the complex analysis course of the mathematics study program IAIN Padangsidimpuan 2017/2018 academic year.

Abstract

This research is basedon students’ less in training so that they difficulty in finishing question on “ circle” topic then they are less active in teaching learning process so that giving impact into student’ mathematics outcomes. This research uses experimental method with untreated control group design with pretest and posttest. The population of this research are all the students at VIII class MTs.N 2 Padangsidimpuan which amounts to 143 students, while the sample of this research is VIII-2 as an experimental class for about 29 students’and VIII-3 as control class for about 28 students. The instrument that is used in this research is essay test that consist of 8 questions about “circle” materials. The result of data analysis in requirement test is obtained by both sample class is normal and homogeneous distribution. The result of t-test are obtained t count =2,065t table = 1.67, resulting in a rejection of O and acceptance Ha. This  study concludes that there is a significant effect in using contextual teaching and learning approach to the student’ mathematics learninf outcomes on the “circle” materials at VIII grade  MTs. N 2 Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

The aim of this research are: (1) to find out the improving competence of mathematical connection and student’s creative thinking through open ended learning and usual learning, (2) to find out there was the interaction between learning and fist mathematical competence toward the improving competence mathematical connection and student’s creative thinking. This kind of research is the quasi experiment. The populations of this research are the students in eleventh grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 03 Medan. The sample chosen random sample which are VIII, as experiment class and VIII, as control class. The instrument is validated first, and the result is shown that (1) to test the competence in mathematical connection is valid with the high criteria, on other hand to test Student’s creative thinking competence is valid with the high criteria. (2) Coefficient reliability to test mathematical connection competence is 0,73 with the high category, on other hand reliability to test student’s creative thingking competence is 0,79 with the high category. Data analysis is can rid by using ANAVA two ways The result of this research Revealed that (1) there was improment competence in mathematical student’s creative thinking by using open ended learning is better than using usual learning, (2) there no interaction between learning and student’s competence level to the improment competence of mathematical connection and student’s creative thinking. The research suggests: (1) to use open ended learning as the alternative way for teachers to improve the competence in mathematical connection and student’s creative thinking. (2) learning tools is prepared well and suited with the indicator of competence and time allocation that must be reached, (3) must be selective in choosing the material of learning by using open ended learning because not all materials of teaching is suitable to apply by using open ended learning.

Abstract

Dyscalculia is a mathematics learning disorder in children who have difficulty counting and calculating. Children who have dyscalculia will show difficulty in doing assignments involving numbers and mathematical symbols. Children with dyscalculia are unable to digest questions and do mathematical processes, or understand abstract questions. So children with dyscalculia cannot solve math problems like children in general. So that to overcome these negative impacts, with dyscalculous disorders can more easily understand and solve math problems.

Abstract

This study aims to see how the efforts in improving the mathematical problem solving ability of high school students by learning STAD type cooperative strategies. This research is based on the importance of mathematical problem solving abilities that must be possessed by students, but the reality on the ground that these abilities are still very low. This research is an experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. This is done in order to find out how much improvement in the ability to solve mathematical problems taught by learning mathematics in STAD type cooperative strategies. For the experimental group, students are taught with STAD type cooperative strategies, while in the control group, students are taught by direct learning. The population of this study was high school students, while the sample was students of class XI IPA of Laksamana Martadinata Medan Private High School. Five classes were randomly selected, class XI IPA 3 class as the experimental class and XI IPA 1 as the control class. The instrument used in the form of problem solving problems. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that: 1) there is a mean difference between students who are taught with STAD type cooperative strategies and those who are in direct learning. 2) Improvement of students' mathematical problem solving abilities that get cooperative learning type STAD gets direct learning ineffective.

Abstract

AbstractEducation aims at person’s potency development process. Here, potency turns to competence. The competence is a mirror of person’s ability and skill for work. Teacher needs to know students’ talents, and smartness. The smartness is a reachable thing. Additionally, it is not only a thing person was born with, but it might be gained through supported situation like closed-relation communication.There should be free time and opportunity for students to develop their own sense, creation and practice. Accordingly, mathematic students should stand alone to study through their potency. Being a primary subject, mathematic is not simple subject to study. Therefore, mathematic teacher should be creative and innovative. In conclusion, the teachers should have good technique and method to improve students’ multiple intelligences based on local and social characters for nation character.

Abstract

This study used quantitative approach with experiment method. The research design was posttest-only control group. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of cooperative learning model type Student Facilitator and Eksplaining (SFE) with poster media through students’ mathematical representation ability. The population was all of seventh grade students in SMPN 7 Sungai Penuh. Two sample were choosen withdraw. Conventional method was implemented in control group, while cooperative learning model type Student Facilitator and Eksplaining (SFE) with poster media was implemented in experiment group. The instrument in this study was students’ mathematical representation ability test that the test items was analyzed first. The instrument was given in the end of learning process in both groups. The result of the data analysis was obtained that: (1) the average of students’ mathematical representation ability test in control group was 66,67 while in experiment group was 73,43; (2) the students’ mathematical representation ability who study under cooperative learning model type Student Facilitator and Eksplaining (SFE) with poster media was higher than who study under conventional method; (3) there was an effect of cooperative learning model type Student Facilitator and Eksplaining (SFE) with poster media through the students’ mathematical representation ability.

Abstract

Abstract

Factors Intelligence is one of the most important aspects of human personality, because in any intelligence activity plays a role, particularly strong influence on the level of learning outcomes to be achieved by the students. A person’s ability to solve the problem is not only influenced by intelligence but also influenced by non-intelligence factors such as interest, motivitation and so on. The purpose of this study was to determine, whether there is a relationship between the level of intelligence (IQ) with cognitive achievement of biology students. This research was done in class X MAN 2 Padangsidimpuan. Data collected by using documentation method to collect data IQ and grades biology student learning outcomes. Meanwhile, to test the hypothesis using product moment correlation technique and then proceed with the t-test to see its significance. Based on data analysis, this study concludes that there is a significant relationship between the level of intelligence (IQ) with cognitive achievement of biology students.

Abstract

Intelligence is the ability to act by a specific purpose, to think rationally, and to face the surrounding environment effectively. Factors that affect success of learning in affected by emotional intelligence. Learners who have high academic intelligence , they tend to have anxiety is unwarranted, overly critical, fussy, tend to withdraw, seemed cold and less likely to express frustration and anger appropriately. If supported by the low level of emotional intelligence, the leaner is often a source of  problems. When learners have a high IQ but low emotional intelligence level, it tends to be seen as learners stubborn, difficult to get along, easily frustrated, do not easily trust others, not sensitive to environmental conditions and tends to despair when experiencing stress. But the opposite condition experience by learners who have an average IQ level has a high emotional intelligence.
