The ELSA is intended to be the journal for publishing articles reporting the results of research on education and languange. The ELSA invites manuscripts in the areas: Education Language Literature The ELSA accepts articles in any education and language related subjects and any research methodology that meet the standards established for publication in the journal. Abstract

This study aimed to review five articles in engaging nursery rhymes toward teaching literary works in EFL students. By doing library research, the researcher found some problems and the solutions in engaging the nursery rhymes for EFL students. Young learner or children mostly became the subject of nursery rhymes study. Later, Najat and Bradley (2014) concluded that nursery rhymes can be applied for adult learners.

Abstract

Ahmad Tohari’s short story entitled “Tinggal Matanya Berkedip-kedip” seen from social aspect depicts that authority and power of a leader supported by the power of “people live in poverty”. Without civilian’s support, a leader’s power is priceless. Cohesion in grammatical aspect such as referent, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction also appeared in the short story. The function of grammatical aspect is mainly to make the story more interesting. Cohesion in lexical aspect in the form of repetition and synonym used in the short story functions to strengthen the author’s mind which delivered.

Abstract

The research discussed about text, discourse practice, and sociocultural practie of coruption discourse in Indonesiana site, and its implication to discourse analysis learning in University. The method used in this research was qualitative method with critical discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough. Based on the result of the research and discussion, text components in every discourse reveals the critical facts in society. Meanwhile, discourse practice denotes external component which affect text production process so the discourse become more comprehensive. Then, sociocultural practice or social knowledge which becomes the framework of writer could emphasize the discourse result. The result of the research could be used as an example step to discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough.

Abstract

Drama is widely used in English class inasmuch as drama is considered as a way to learn English effectively. A lot of researcher conducted studies on drama either aimed to find out the benefits obtained through drama or aimed to find out the difficulties that might be found by the learners in drama. This article reviews five articles in relation with drama. The researcher in those studies investigated drama from different perspective. The result found in this study is expected to be consideration in implementing drama in teaching practice.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the attitude of the native language speakers of Lampung. This study describes the attitude of the language of the people of Lampung to the language of his ancestors. The results of the study found that all respondents were not embarrassed to use their local language in their own areas, but 15% of respondents were embarrassed to use local language outside Lampung. Based on the integrative function, there is a tendency of people in Lampung to have a positive attitude towards their language. Meanwhile, with reference to the instrumental function, there is a tendency that they have a negative attitude towards language and a positive attitude towards Bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

Implementation of Lesson Study in the third semester students of Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi academic year 2017/2018. The aims of this article is to improve the process of studying of fiction Prose. The undertaken activities are the activities of the Lesson Study team which are consisted of model lecturers and observers (observers). The lesson Study activities are conducted three times open class. Each open class consists of four stages of activity, namely: planning (plan), implementation (do), observation and reflection (see). Each planning stage produces a learning plan, an MFI, and an assessment instrument. The learning process was done through the application of cooperative learning strategies “cooperative learning model typed”. The results obtained from the implementation of lesson study, namely increasing the liveliness, creativity, and student independence. Students' understanding of the subject matter of fiction prose fiction was increased. The quality of learning also was increased.

Abstract

Penerjemahan teks dari satu bahasa ke bahasa lain adalah praktek yang lazim ditemui dalam berbagai konteks wacana, baik yang bersifat akademik, non-akademik, formal maupun nonformal. Namun demikian, dalam teks target hasil terjemahan seringkali terdapat masalah ketidaksetaraan pada tingkat kata ataupun pada tingkat tekstual. Penelitian ini adalah kajian pustaka yang bertujuan untuk mengungkap masalah-masalah ketidaksetaraan dalam alih bahasa dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia. Sumber data, yaitu Dalih Pembunuhan Massal: Gerakan 30 September dan Kudeta Suharto yang merupakan alih bahasa oleh John Roosa dari dokumen bahasa Inggris Pretext for Mass Murder: The September 30th Movement and Suharto’s Coup d’État in Indonesia. Data ketidaksetaraan terjemahan diidentifikasi, diklasifikasikan, dan dianalisis berdasarkan teori Category Shift oleh Catford (1965). Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa masalah ketidaksetaraan dalam empat pergeseran kategori menurut teori Catford, yaitu pergeseran struktur, pergeseran jenis kata, pergeseran tingkat, dan pergeseran intrasistem. Pergeseran struktur merupakan kasus yang paling banyak terjadi.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship Education in college is important for all profession. Entrepreneurship education has been developed in almost all universities in Indonesia. College as one of the means and facitating role in shaping the young generation has an obligation to train and motivate the studens to give to become savvy genaration, independent, creative, innovative and able to create business oportunities. Thus, every college immediately toward sole discreation to balance between higher education reasearch institusion with entrepneurs forming institutions. Alumni are required to be innovative and creative in terms of their personal development through the creation of level playing field, so that future expected withextensive job creation, economic growth in the region will increase. An entrepreneur is students who exploits his/her creativity to create something valuable either in the form of tangible or intangible.

Abstract

Untuk meningkatkan mutu pendidikan terutama ditingkat perguruan tinggi STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi dibutuhkan upaya dan usaha tenaga pendidik atau dosen yang dapat memperbarui dan meningkatkan pembelajaran agar hasil belajar meningkat. Salah satu upaya yang dilakukan oleh para dosen, yaitu dengan menerapkan lesson study karena lesson study merupakan suatu proses kolaboratif atau model pembinaan profesi pendidik melalui pengkajian pembelajaran secara kolaboratif dan berkelanjutan berdasarkan prinsip-prinsip kolegalitas dan mutual learning. Untuk membangun learning community dilakukan tiga tahapan, yaitu plan, do, dan see. Dalam tahap plan dosen model menyampaikan lesson design yang sudah dirancang sesuai dengan tujuan pembelajaran pada mata kuliah vocabulary development program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris semester satu kelas A. Dosen model menyiapkan lembar kerja mahasiswa untuk mengukur tingkat pemahaman terhadap materi yang sudah dipelajari. Pada tahap do melalui model pembelajaran TAI, dosen menyuruh mahasiswa untuk membentuk kelompok beranggotakan 3 sampai 4. Dosen menjelaskan materi pembelajaran, setelah itu setiap mahasiswa pada masing-masing kelompok diberi lembar kerja yang pada awalnya mereka harus mengerjakanya masing-masing dan kemudian mereka dapat berdiskusi dengan sesama anggota kelompoknya. Jika mereka sudah selesai, dosen mengecek hasil kerjanya dengan cara mahasiswa mempresentasikanya ataupun juga dengan dibahas bersama-sama. Dosen jaga memberi apresiasi pada setiap kelompok yang dapat menjawab dengan benar, pada tahap ini dosen lainnya sebagai pengamat mengamati kegiatan mahasiswa selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Tahap yang terahir, yaitu see, pada tahap ini dosen model beserta para dosen lain atau para pengamat dipandu dengan moderator menyampaikan temuan-temuan selama proses pembelajaran dan memberikan saran.Hal ini bertujuan untuk perbaikan agar proses pembelajaran pada tahap berikutnya lebih baik dan meningkat.

Abstract

This article talks about The Implementation of Lesson Study on "Analisis Kesalahan Berbahasa" (Language Error Analysis) subject. The purpose of this research is to describe the implementation of lesson study and to see the effect of increasing cooperative skill of student. Based on the observation, the are some lesson learnt: a) the use of collaborative learning method could give space to student to make discussion, so it could increase student cooperative skill, b) there are intensive discussion on the partial group (consist of 2—4 members. It shows that implementation of lesson study could increase student cooperative.
