The ELSA is intended to be the journal for publishing articles reporting the results of research on education and languange. The ELSA invites manuscripts in the areas: Education Language Literature The ELSA accepts articles in any education and language related subjects and any research methodology that meet the standards established for publication in the journal. Abstract

Character is very important aspect of human being. Having good character will contribute students to have good personality. Both parent and teacher have responsibility to inculcate the character to the children since they are elder person who usually interact with them. Morality is part of character which is very needed today. The fact that some children loose their respect to the parent, teachers, and friends is a signal that there is a degradation of students character. School as places where students spend most of their time must give good contribution to students characters. The importance of teaching morality and how to insert morality in school become the topic of this paper. It is hoped that by having good morality, indonesian education will become better and better which automatically makes the quality of indonesian education become highly improved.

Abstract

Lesson Study adalah kegiatan kolaboratif dari sekelompok pendidik untuk secara bersama-sama: (1) merencanakan pembelajaran (plan), (2) salah seorang pendidik (disebut guru/dosen model) melaksanakan pembelajaran di depan kelas dan pendidik lain (disebut observer) mengamati jalannya proses pembelajaran (do), dan (3) melakukan refleksi atau melihat lagi (see) pembelajaran yang telah dilaksanakannya, guna menemukan dan memecahkan masalah pembelajaran yang mungkin muncul. Fokus pengamatan para pendidik dalam kegiatan lesson study adalah mengamati peserta didik atau kelompok peserta didik yang saling belajar. Observer tidak hanya mengamati masalah pada diri seorang peserta didik atau kelompok peserta didik. Observer menganalisa faktor-faktor yang menjadi penyebab kegiatan belajar peserta didik tidak berjalan sesuai yang diharapkan. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan observer serta melihat rekaman video dan evaluasi kegiatan peserta didik, guru/dosen model dapat menarik kesimpulan atas pembelajaran yang Ia laksanakan. Dengan demikian kegiatan lesson study bagi para pendidik ini akan benar-benar menjadi forum belajar untuk perbaikan pembelajaran berikutnya.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative descriptive research that aims to describe what it is about the activities of students study program in General Linguistics learning. Data collection is done by using planning stages (plan), implementation (do), and reflection (see) that focus on student activities. The subjects of this study are students of first semester of class A of PBSI study program. What is observed is the increase in student activity on each cycle. The research process is carried out with several stages: (a) conducting observations of research subjects, (b) performing data retrieval, (c) analyzing data on each cycle, (d) conducting discussion of the results of the analysis, (e) drawing conclusions of research results. The results showed that: 1) the implementation of learning through cooperative model Team Games Tournament can increase the activity, enthusiasm of students, 2) the implementation of learning with cooperative model Team Games Tournament can improve student ability.

Abstract

The main aim of this research is to make the teaching learning of Bahasa Indonesia at class X of SMA Negeri 2 Abung Semuli, academic year 2016-2017 become interesting and effective. The research is classroom action research conducted in two cycles that involves plan, action, observation and reflection. The subject of the research was class X that consists of 32 students (18 females and 14 males ). There were three instruments used in the reseach : students’ writing ability , students’ activity, and learning achievement. This study found that the use of Group investigation model of learning can increase the effectiveness the Bahasa Indonesia learning process at class X. The effectiveness of learning process is shown by improvement of the achievement at (1) the percentage of students’ writing ability that reached the target from 68.95% (cycle 1) becomes 72,28 % (cycle 2) or increased 3,33 %.(2) The percentage of students’ activity in cycle 1 was 73,64 % became 76,42 % that meant the increased 2,78 %,(3) the persentage of learning achievement also increased from 75,97 % (cycle 1) to 78,22 % (cycle 2) , the increase was 2,25 %. The result of learning using Group investigation model is achieved through the following stages: (1) pre-activity, teacher prepared students by informing the learning objective, giving motivation, preparing the material and putting the students into groups. (2) main step, the students in group were distributed the topic problem, group presentation, personal task, plenary discussion, conclusion and (3) post-activity, making a resume of the material and teaching learning reflection.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to make the teaching learning of English at class XI IPA 1 of SMA Negeri 1 Abung Semuli, academic year 2016-2017 become interesting and effective. The research is classroom action research conducted in two cycles that involves plan, action, observation and reflection. The subject of the research was class XI IPA 1 that consists of 37 students (25 females and 12 males ). There were four instruments used in the reseach : teacher’s activity, students’ activity, active students and learning achievement. This study found that the use of Group Investigation model of learning can increase the effectiveness the English learning process at class XI IPA 1. The effectiveness of learning process is shown by improvement of the achievement at (1) the percentage of teacher’s activity that reached the target from 61.95% (cycle 1) becomes 80% (cycle 2) or increased 18,05%.(2) The percentage of students’ activity in cycle 1 was 41,66 % became 65,91% that meant the increased 24,25 %,(3) the persentage of active students also increased from 40,54 % (cycle 1) to 83,78 % (cycle 2) , the increase was 43,24 %, and (4) the percentage of speaking score was 24,32% (cycle 1) became 73,00% (cycle 2), means the increase wa 48,68 %. The result of learning using Group Investigatio model is achieved through the following stages: (1) pre-activity, teacher prepared students by informing the learning objective, giving motivation, preparing the material and putting the students into groups. Abstract

Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa keberadaan dan keberadaan globalisasi membawa dan memberikan banyak pengaruh dalam berbagai pada sektor pendidikan. Tentunya, ini akan menjadi suatu permasalahan jika sekolah/lembaga tidak mengamati secara komprehensip dan memperhatikan dengan baik terhadap setiap pengaruh dan perkembangan yang tampak dari globalisasi. Pendidikan menghasilkan kebiasaan hidup bagi seseorang. Ini bisa dilihat dari perubahan nilai-nilai budaya yang ada pada individu dan masyarakatnya. Pengimplementasian budaya berdasakan karakter pendidikan adalah hal-hal yang pokok dari pentingnya kebudayaan bagi seorang individu.

Abstract

Artikel ini menganalisis tentang bagaimana Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC) berkontribusi pada hasil belajar siswa. Suatu pembelajaran berbasis LSLC di kelas menyimak telah diadakan oleh penulis untuk mengetahui lebih jauh lagi bagaimana suatu pembelajaran kolaboratif mempengaruhi kemajuan siswa. Tujuan artikel ini adalah memberi gambaran bagaimana siswa memahami interaksi kelas yang digambarkan dalam video pembelajaran dengan pengaplikasian tekhnik top-down dan bottom-up melalui pembelajaran berbasis LSLC. Hasil pembelajaran di kelas menunjukkan bahwa dengan mengelompokkan siswa ke dalam distribusi kelompok yang setara dapat menarik siswa untuk mempunyai keberanian yang lebih besar dalam mengekspresikan pendapat, menunjukkan empati bagi setiap anggota kelompok dalam memahami materi, dan memiliki tujuan akhir bahwa setiap anggota kelompok harus mendapatkan pengetahuan yang sama. Di luar perbedaan tingkat pemahaman yang disebabkan oleh kemampuan siswa, pembelajaran berbasis LSLC berhasil membuat siswa memiliki usaha yang lebih untuk meningkatkan potensi diri mereka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah: (1) ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pemahaman membaca dengan menggunakan strategi think-aloud dan strategi konvensional; (2) ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pemahaman membaca antara strategi think-aloud dan teknik konvensional berdasarkan tingkat high level dalam minat membaca; (3) ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pemahaman membaca antara strategi think-aloud dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional berdasarkan tingkat low level dalam minat membaca; (4) ada pengaruh interaksi dari strategi yang digunakan dan minat baca yang diajarkan terhadap prestasi pemahaman membaca. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester dua Fakultas Adab di IAIN Raden Fatah Palembang yang terdiri dari 248 siswa. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 84 mahasiswa dengan menggunakan random sampling. Metode penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimental. Penelitian ini dikategorikan dalam (low and high interest). Penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa: (1) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian pemahaman membaca antara strategi Think-aloud dan strategi konvensional. (2) ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian pemahaman membaca antara strategi think-aloud dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional berdasarkan high interest dalam minat membaca. (3) ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam pencapaian pemahaman membaca antara strategi think-aloud dengan menggunakan teknik konvensional berdasarkan low interest minat membaca. (4) ada pengaruh interaksi yang signifikan antara strategi think-aloud dan minat membaca terhadap pemahaman membaca.

Abstract

Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC) adalah program yang dilaksanakan untuk memecahkan masalah belajar mengajar di kalangan dosen di ruang kelas di STKIP Muhammadiyah-Kotabumi, Lampung. Proses ini dibagi menjadi 3 langkah yaitu , “PLAN” “DO”, dan” SEE”. Dalam penelitian ini, LSLC diimplementasikan dalam mata kuliah "Semantik". Semantik adalah salah satu cabang dalam ilmu linguistik yang dipelajari Jurusan Bahasa Inggris STKIP Muhammadiyah-Kotabumi, Lampung. Selama kegiatan belajar mengajar, dosen menggunakan model pembelajaran jigsaw untuk mempermudah materi yang luas yang perlu dipelajari oleh siswa. Dalam program LSLC, dosen diawasi oleh pengamat dalam tiga langkah kegiatan LSLC (Plan, Do, See). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengajaran "Semantik" dengan menggunakan model jigsaw ketika LSLC dilaksanakan. Qualitative narrative digunakan sebagai desain penelitian sementara data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan observasi kelas. Di atas semua, hasil penelitian ini mempromosikan pemahaman yang mendalam tentang bagaimana pengajaran "Semantik" dengan menggunakan model jigsaw ketika LSLC dilaksanakan.

Abstract

To improve process of eduacation quality needs inovation that should be done continuously. One of those inovations is by changing the learning paradigm from teacher centered to student centered. So, from this learning is not only focus on students but also how the teacher teaches. One of improvement models to improve the teacher is through lesson study. Lesson study is a creation model of teacher profession collaboratively and continously, based on collegiality principle that helps each others in learning to build learning community (democartics, openness, and continue). Learning community at the third semester students of STKIP Muhammadiyah is quite good, it looks during learning process of reading subject, they look active, and also they are entusistics to understand the material given. It is done with the member of their group, they can also discuss with another group, but it was found that there are three students who have different attitude with another. It was also one student from second group that did not have motivation during learning process, he is A, and from first group is B, and from third group is Lilik, but the lecturer always guided them because they lack of motivation and interest during discussion, it based on the observation from observers, finnaly it can give suggestion for the lecturer to be better in teaching reading.
