Abstract

Background: thirst is the most common symptom burden among patients with hemodialysis. Thirst among patients with hemodialysis caused by fluid restriction lead to stress and depression, especially among patients who consume diuretics. Aim: This study aims to analyze the benefit of sucking ice cubes among patients with hemodialysis according to empirical studies in the last ten years. Method: The articles were obtained from several databases such as Scopus, ProQuest, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and the National Library of Indonesia. There were five articles reviewed by the authors. Results: According to the five articles, ice cubes effectively reduce thirst among patients with hemodialysis. Patients with hemodialysis can suck the ice cubes maximum of three to four times a day. Discussion: Sucking the ice cubes can reduce thirst because it has a cold effect which can freshen and reduce the thirst longer. Nurses can provide and educate this alternative intervention which is effective to reduce thirst among patients with hemodialysis. Sucking the ice cubes can be conducted by the patients in the hospital also in the patient's home with the family's help.

Abstract

Gout arthritis is a condition characterised by recurrent attacks of the joints accompanied by crystal deposits. Age, gender, medical history, obesity, diet, and alcohol are the main factors of gout arthritis. Pain management is one strategy used to prevent gout. But few clients are informed of how to apply pain management, thus health education is required to improve client awareness. The goal of this case study is to determine the degree of knowledge before and after receiving health education about pain management. It does this through a descriptive technique using a pretest and posttest design. Data collection used a questionnaire on 2 subjects who had been diagnosed with gout arthritis. The results of the case study showed an increase in family knowledge after being given health education, namely subject 1 scored 48% (low knowledge) to 88% (good knowledge), while subject 2 scored 60% (sufficient knowledge) to 80% (good knowledge). This case study recommends the importance of health education to families with gout arthritis on a scheduled basis which is carried out by health workers

Abstract

Anemia due to iron (Fe) deficiency is a major nutritional problem in Asia, including in Indonesia. Reports from various studies in Indonesia show that the prevalence of nutritional anemia in young women is still high, ranging from 20-50%. The purpose of this study was to provide education to young women regarding the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, nutritional status and eating frequency with anemia. This research is an analytic survey type with a cross sectional design. The population in this study were all Fatmawati STIKes female students, totaling 414 people. Samples were taken as many as 126 respondents, the sampling technique with Proportional Random Sampling. Data collection was carried out with primary data using a questionnaire. Data analysis with univariate, bivariate, multivariate. The results of the study showed that 38.9% of respondents experienced anemia. The results of univariate analysis obtained high knowledge (81.0%), positive attitude (50.8%), normal nutritional status (BMI 18.5 - <25.0) of 81.7% and frequency of eating ≥3 times/day ( 55.6%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there were four related variables, namely knowledge (p=0.016; OR=3.333), attitude (p=0.049; OR=2.220), nutritional status (p=0.031; OR=3.022), eating frequency (p=0.000; OR=35,282). The results of the multivariate analysis showed that the factors associated with anemia in female adolescents were eating frequency (p=0.000; OR=38.479) while knowledge was the confounding variable. The dominant factor associated with anemia in female adolescents is eating frequency. Eating frequency is a variable associated with anemia in female adolescents. It is suggested to Fatmawati STIKes students to increase the frequency of regular meals 3 times/day with a balanced nutritional menu that is high in iron (Fe).
