Abstract

This study reveals the violin learning method in the Gema Nusantara Pelajar Semarang music community and the role of the community in developing the musical talents of its members. The right learning method has a significant impact on achieving learning outcomes, enhancing the quality of the learning process, and motivating learners. This study employed a qualitative approach, where data were collected through interviews, direct observation, and document review. The participants of this study were instructors, community members, and parents. The results of the study indicate that a series of learning methods used, such as the Suzuki method, inquiry method, demonstration method, drill method, project method, and cooperative method have effectively improved the ability of community members to play the violin, both in terms of skill and musicality. The Gema Nusantara Pelajar Community is not only a place to gather and practice the violin, but its active role in holding concerts and masterclasses can be a means for the community to develop the talents of its members. This study emphasizes that developing talent does not only rely on the right learning method but also requires an active role and cooperation from members and founders of the community.

Abstract

This study investigates Franz Liszt’s solo piano transcription of Beethoven's "Eroica" Symphony, focusing on the complex technical and interpretative challenges involved in adapting an orchestral work for solo piano. Beethoven's "Eroica" Symphony is widely celebrated for its innovative structure and thematic development, and Liszt's transcription represents an effort to make such orchestral masterpieces accessible to solo pianists while retaining their expressive depth and grandeur. The research employs a comparative musical analysis methodology to explore the balance Liszt achieved between faithfulness to the original orchestration and pianistic feasibility. The study examines technical transcription techniques, such as the adaptation of orchestral textures into pianistic idioms, including imitating orchestral effect, descending octaves, and the mixing of voices to evoke the orchestral richness. Findings indicate that Liszt’s transcription is a transformative recreation rather than a simple reduction, showcasing his creative approach to translating orchestral music for piano. By preserving the formal structure while adapting textural and dynamic elements to suit the piano's capabilities, Liszt’s work exemplifies the delicate balance between fidelity to the original and artistic reinterpretation. This study contributes to the broader field of transcription studies by addressing gaps in the existing literature, particularly regarding the technical and interpretative strategies involved in transcribing orchestral music for a solo instrument.

Abstract

This article will examine a comparison of music learning outcomes in secondary education curricula between Indonesia (Merdeka Curriculum) and Australia (Version 8.4 Curriculum). The objective of this research is to analyze how each curriculum formulates music competencies, as well as to examine the differences in pedagogical and ideological orientations that underlie them. The methodological approach entails curriculum document analysis, supplemented by literature studies and a critical-constructive approach to learning outcomes. The findings of the analysis indicate that the Merdeka Curriculum places significant emphasis on the preservation of traditional music and the cultivation of character in accordance with the values of the Lima Cita Sila, or Five Core Principles, of the Student Profile. However, the curriculum dedicates less attention to fostering creative exploration, the integration of digital technology, and the promotion of cross-cultural understanding. Conversely, the Australian Curriculum adopts a more progressive and open approach through three primary domains: creating, performing and responding. This approach fosters creativity, reflection, and collaboration within a global context. However, it places relatively less explicit emphasis on the moral and character-building functions of the arts. The conclusion of this study underscores the significance of integrating the preservation of local culture with the cultivation of global competencies in music education. The recommendations are intended to enhance the curriculum, ensuring its holistic nature, technological foundation, inclusivity with regard to cultural diversity, and alignment with 21st-century learning requirements.

Abstract

This study explores the symbolism and socio-cultural functions of Dogdog Lojor, a traditional Sundanese musical instrument that plays a vital role in the Seren Taun ceremony at Kasepuhan Sirna Resmi. The primary objective of this research is to analyze the symbolic meanings, as well as the social, spiritual, and ecological functions of Dogdog Lojor within the cultural framework of the Sundanese indigenous community, while also examining the challenges of its preservation amid modernization and cultural commodification. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing literature review, documentation, and thematic analysis of cultural texts and customary documents. The findings reveal that Dogdog Lojor serves not only as a ritual musical instrument but also as a cosmological symbol representing harmony between humans, nature, and ancestors. Its social function is evident in its role as a unifying force within the community and as a medium for informal cultural education. Furthermore, the use of natural materials and its eco-cultural production practices highlight the instrument’s contribution to environmental preservation. However, the study also identifies a shift in meaning caused by globalization pressures and a weakening of cultural regeneration among younger generations. Therefore, preserving Dogdog Lojor requires participatory, community-based strategies that respect its spiritual and symbolic context. This research is expected to contribute to the development of symbolic anthropology, ethnomusicology, and cultural ecology theories, as well as serve as a foundation for sustainable cultural preservation policies.

Abstract

Student Well-being is the psychological well-being felt by a student while carrying out their duties and responsibilities as a student who masters the scientific field taught by teachers at school. Every student is expected to have a psycho-emotional condition that motivates him to really study diligently and be able to show the best academic achievement. Student well-being can be developed through activities that are interesting, fun, and happy for each individual, such as singing. This research activity involved elementary school students (N=32).  This activity uses an experimental approach, which includes 3 stages, namely pre-activity, activity, and post-activity stages. The data collection technique uses a student well-being questionnaire and is given during the pre-test and post-test. The data analysis technique uses a difference test (t-test), namely, differentiating the results of the pre-test and post-test. The results of the activity show that singing activities can develop student well-being in elementary school students.

Abstract

Gorompol is one of the sekar-gending repertoires that plays a significant role in Sundanese wayang golek purwa performances, particularly in the scenes of cabut kayon/gunungan, ibingan wayang, and murwa dalang. This study aims to examine the role, structure, and musical complexity of Gorompol within the context of wayang golek performances. The research employs content analysis with data collected through direct observation, audio-visual documentation, and interviews with both puppeteers (dalang) and musicians (wiyaga). The findings reveal that Gorompol is a distinctive piece commonly performed during daytime performances, characterized by a concise yet intricate musical structure. Its complexity is reflected in the flexibility of combining salendro and madenda laras systems during the murwa scene, the dynamic interaction among the puppeteer, musicians, singers (sinden), and vocal exclamations (alok), as well as the tightly regulated structural patterns despite its function as accompanying music. These findings highlight that Gorompol is not merely background music but a medium of expression that enhances the dramaturgy of the performance. The relevance of this study to contemporary performing arts lies in how Gorompol exemplifies collective creativity in preserving traditional continuity while simultaneously opening pathways for musical innovation in modern performance practices.
