Abstract

The role of librarians within academic institutions has garnered increasing attention due to their important position in facilitating information access and knowledge dissemination. Therefore, the study focused on librarians’ leadership style as correlate of job performance among academic librarians in southwest Nigeria. Correlation design was used with population of 84 librarians. A stratified random sampling technique was used to select the respondents. Mean score ( ), standard deviation (SD), and regression was used for data analysis. The findings indicate a high prevalence of laissez-faire leadership style, a weak positive correlation between laissez-faire leadership and job performance, a moderate relationship between instructional leadership and job performance, and a weak positive relationship between servant leadership style and job performance. Suggestions include create a supportive work environment that encourages creativity, recognizes employees' achievements, prioritizing styles that promote accountability, increase productivity, and improve communication channels. Implementing motivating methods to encourage personnel and enhance their output, providing regular training, and prioritizing their well-being will lead to increased job satisfaction and organizational productivity in the long term.

Abstract

The integration of technology in the classroom is crucial for fostering a digital society, yet its success heavily relies on teachers' readiness. Despite the availability of technological tools, their effective adoption varies, often influenced by teachers' attitudes and anxiety levels. This study explores the the Influence of Primary School Teachers' Anxiety Levels on Attitudes Toward Technology Integration. Using a survey research design, data were collected from 126 teachers in government-owned primary schools. Attitudes were measured using a self-developed 4 Likert-scale instrument, while anxiety levels were assessed by adopting a standardized anxiety inventory. Results indicate that while teachers generally have positive attitudes toward technology integration, there is a notable prevalence of high anxiety levels that do not directly correlate with these attitudes. These findings suggest that other underlying factors contribute to anxiety, which warrants further investigation. The study recommends that schools establish support systems focused on enhancing teachers' mental well-being and competency in using technology. Future research should delve into identifying the specific factors that heighten anxiety in the context of technology adoption in education.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of student-centered learning at Soran University in the Kurdistan Region and identifies factors that limit its adoption. The research emphasizes student involvement in the learning process, shifting the primary responsibility from teachers to students, and assessing the approach's effectiveness. Grounded in John Dewey’s “Learning by Doing” theory, which advocates for learning through activities with active student participation, the study provides a theoretical framework aligned with creating a more participatory learning environment. A structured survey was conducted with 104 teachers from various faculties and departments, focusing on the extent of student-centered practices, faculty attitudes, and organizational constraints. Data analysis through SPSS revealed a moderate adoption of student-centered approaches. However, significant barriers persist, including the continued reliance on traditional teaching methods, large class sizes, limited resources, and insufficient institutional support. These obstacles highlight the challenges educators face in fully embracing student-centered learning. The study notes some progress in implementing student-centered approaches but underscores the need for effective strategies to enhance this implementation at Soran University. Recommendations include providing more faculty training, improving resource allocation, and increasing institutional support to overcome these barriers and maximize the benefits of student-centered learning in higher education.

Abstract

Interactions within the classroom are essential since a conducive learning atmosphere is necessary. This study explored the relationship between lecturer-teacher interactions and learning effectiveness at universities. The survey design used in this study was correlational research design. The participants in this study were selected from universities in Kwara State. Using multi-stage sampling approaches, 350 student-teachers participated in the study. Proformas and a questionnaire designed by the researchers titled “Teacher-Student Interaction Questionnaire” were utilized to gather data. A split-half approach was utilized to determine the questionnaire’s reliability, and the gathered data was analyzed using Cronbach Alpha, which has a reliability coefficient of 0.78.Mean was used to answer the research questions, and the PPMC and t-test at the 0.05 significant level were used to test the hypotheses. According to the study’s findings, lecturer-teacher interactions in universities in Ilorin are not often vertical, antagonistic, authoritarian, or laissez-faire. This study also reported that most respondents had above-average academic engagement levels in Ilorin. The researchers recommended that lecturers prioritise building positive relationships with their students. Establishing trusting, supporting relationships with their students fosters open communication and a sense of trust that increases student engagement and motivation, which is why lecturers should prioritise developing these relationships.

Abstract

This study aims to explore mental stress among lecturers and staff at Islamic Higher Education Institutions in Lampung Province during the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify effective stress management strategies. Using a literature review and interviews, the research gathered data from lecturers and staff to identify the main challenges they face, including increased workload, adjustment to remote work, and additional demands in the context of online learning. Interview results indicate that changes in work methods and lack of institutional support significantly contribute to stress. Lecturers experience stress due to adapting to unfamiliar technology, while administrative staff struggle with separating work from personal time. The study recommends enhancing technological capacity, providing psychosocial support, adequate training, and more flexible policies as solutions to reduce mental stress. The findings aim to help higher education institutions better manage and support the well-being of their academic staff.

Abstract

This study explored the influence of age and gender on contraceptive use among undergraduates in South-West Nigeria. The primary aim was to examine how contraceptive use among students is moderated by age and gender. The research employed a descriptive survey design, with a sample of 1,200 undergraduates (both male and female, aged 15 and above) selected through a multi-stage sampling method. Data were collected using a self-developed questionnaire, the "Contraceptive Usage Questionnaire" (CUQ), which had a Pearson reliability coefficient (r) of 0.70. Inferential statistics were used for data analysis, with t-tests and ANOVA employed to test the hypotheses. When the ANOVA results indicated significant differences, a Scheffe Posthoc test was conducted to pinpoint the specific areas of significance. The results revealed that gender does not significantly affect contraceptive use among undergraduates, whereas age plays a role in determining usage patterns. Based on these findings, the study recommends that government and university authorities collaborate to introduce a comprehensive sexuality education course to inform students about responsible contraceptive use. Additionally, professional counselors and relevant stakeholders should hold bi-monthly seminars and workshops to educate students on the proper and acceptable use of contraceptives.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the planning for implementing School-Based Management (SBM) at SMP IT Muhammadiyah An Najah Jatinom, focusing on improving the quality of learning and human resource (HR) management. Ideally, SBM is designed to enhance students' academic and religious competence through participatory planning involving teachers, parents, and the local community. However, despite the formulation of the school's vision and mission, the school faces limited resources and budget, which impact the implementation of planned programs. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation from relevant parties, such as the Principal, Vice Principal, and Teachers. Data analysis was conducted through triangulation to ensure the validity and accuracy of the information obtained. The research findings show that although SBM planning is well-structured, focusing on improving teacher competency through training and workshops and developing infrastructure that supports technology-based educational facilities, there are still deficiencies in coordination and supervision that need improvement for more optimal implementation. Overall, this research emphasizes that structured and participatory planning is essential to achieving SBM success and enhancing educational quality, although challenges in resource management must be addressed for optimal implementation.
