Abstract

The teaching of physics, specifically the topic of heat, is essentially aimed at facilitating a deep understanding of concepts and enhancing pupils’ higher-order cognitive skills. However, the results of a preliminary field study indicate that the learning process is still hampered by the presentation of abstract concepts, meaning that pupils tend to simply memorise formulas without meaningful understanding. This study aims to analyze students’ cognitive abilities through the application of a guided inquiry learning model with a deep learning approach to the topic of heat. The research method used was a quantitative method with a between-group design, specifically a quasi-experimental research design. The specific research design employed was a pretest-posttest design with a non-equivalent control group. The research instrument used was a cognitive ability test consisting of thirteen items. Data analysis utilized the N-Gain score and the Mann-Whitney U test, which met the prerequisites of normality and homogeneity. The results showed that the N-Gain scores in the experimental class were higher than those in the control class, with values of 0.67 and 0.57, respectively. These results were supported by the Mann-Whitney U test, which yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.029 under the assumption of unequal variances (0.029 < 0.05). This indicates a significant difference in the improvement of students’ cognitive abilities between the experimental and control classes. Therefore, the guided inquiry learning model with a deep learning approach can serve as an alternative solution for enhancing students’ cognitive abilities.

Abstract

Rotary drilling operations at Pit Bendili, PT Kaltim Prima Coal, require operational parameter optimization to achieve the company’s target Rate of Penetration (ROP) of 110 m/h. Drilling speed is significantly influenced by the interaction between mechanical operational factors and rock characteristics. Pit Bendili has an average Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS) of 15.46 MPa, classified as weak rock, yet hardness variations between coal seams cause workload fluctuations. This study aims to model and analyze the combination of pulldown pressure (PP) and rotational pressure (RP) on the velocity of penetration (VP) to meet the ROP target. Operational parameters were modeled using the Python-based Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) Regression method. Analysis of 134 blast hole operational datasets yielded a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 7.9%, indicating excellent predictive model accuracy. Through this LASSO model, PP and RP combinations can be precisely adjusted to ensure drilling velocity consistently meets or exceeds the 110 m/h target across various rock layers.

Abstract

The operational efficiency of coal drilling at Pit Bendili, PT Kaltim Prima Coal, is directly influenced by drill bit life. This study aims to evaluate technical drilling parameters to achieve a target bit lifespan of 10.800 m using the Galle and Woods theoretical method. Evaluated parameters include Weight on Bit (WOB) and Rotational Speed (RPM) from a Sandvik D55SP drill rig (unit D162) operating in soft to very soft formations with Uniaxial Compressive Strength (UCS) values ranging from 14,14 MPa to 17,73 MPa. The Galle and Woods method mathematically models tooth and bearing wear rates to predict optimum bit replacement intervals. Results indicate that mitigating bit balling while achieving the cumulative 10.800 m target requires maintaining the pipe rotation speed constant at its maximum limit of 187 RPM and optimizing WOB within safe Sandvik operational thresholds. This parameter combination maximizes the penetration rate while minimizing premature component failure.

Abstract

Science literacy has emerged as a fundamental competency in navigating the complexities of modern life, yet Indonesian students consistently underperform in this domain. Data from the 2022 PISA assessment placed Indonesia 67th among 81 nations with a science literacy score 0f 383, reflecting a persistent gap between educational expectations and actual outcomes. A contributing factor is the disconnect between formal science instruction and the lived experiences of students. This study investigated the extent to which science literacy among senior high school students could be enhanced through inquiry-based learning implemented with a floating house as a locally-rooted instructional medium on the topic of static fluids. A one-group Pretest-Posttest  design was applied to 35 students of class XI-B MAN Kota Palangka Raya. Fourteen validated essay items were used for data collection (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.794). the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test yielded Z = -5.160 (p < 0.05), confirming a statistically significant difference between pre and post intervention scores. The mean N-Gain of 0.4786 indicated moderate improvement. These results suggest that embedding local cultural artifacts into an inquiry framework supports the development of contextually grounded and meaningful science literacy.

Abstract

Narrative text writing skills represent essential language competencies that primary school students must possess. However, observations conducted at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurussalam Kembang Sri revealed that a portion of students still encounter difficulties in developing ideas, structuring story plots, and utilizing capital letters and punctuation in accordance with Indonesian language conventions. This study aims to describe the narrative text writing skills of fifth-grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurussalam Kembang Sri and to identify the factors influencing these skills. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. The research subjects consisted of 16 fifth-grade students and their homeroom teacher. Data were collected through narrative text writing tests, interviews, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results demonstrated that the students' narrative text writing skills fell into the moderate category, with an average score of 55.8. The aspects of idea development (68.75%) and story plot (65.63%) were classified in the good category, whereas other aspects were in the moderate category. The lowest percentages were found in the use of capital letters (45.31%) and punctuation (43.75%). Factors influencing writing skills include internal factors, such as low learning motivation, reading interest, self-confidence, and a tendency to fatigue easily while writing, as well as external factors, including excessive gadget use and a lack of consistent writing habits. Consequently, students' narrative text writing skills still require improvement through enhanced motivation, reading interest, and more intensive writing instruction.

Abstract

The high school dropout rate remains a challenge in educational development in Indonesia, including in Enrekang Regency. In this context, Community Learning Centers (PKBM) serve as an alternative education for those unable to complete formal education. This study aims to analyze the impact of family support on the success of PKBM in reducing the dropout rate at PKBM Melati, Enrekang Regency. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study type. Research informants consisted of PKBM managers, tutors, learners, and families of learners who were selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The results showed that family support is a crucial factor in supporting learners' success in participating in the equivalency education program. The forms of support found included emotional support, instrumental support, and social support, with emotional support being the most dominant form. This support contributes to increased learning motivation, participation in learning activities, and the sustainability of learners' education. This study also found that family economic constraints, low parental education levels, and stigma against non-formal education are the main obstacles to optimizing family support. The research findings confirm that the success of PKBM in reducing the risk of dropping out of school is not only determined by the quality of the educational program, but also by the involvement of the family as the closest social environment of the learners.
