Abstract

This research aims to examine the meaning of a song as a tool for criticism, focusing on "Gugatan Rakyat Semesta," which encourages critique of the government. Using a descriptive qualitative method and Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis, the study employs three dimensions of analysis: textual, discursive, and sociocultural. Textually, the song's linguistic elements such as sentence structure, cohesion, coherence, and key terms are analyzed to explore how language functions not only as communication but also as a tool to challenge power and ideology. The discursive dimension investigates the song’s production process by Feast and its reception by the public, particularly during the nationwide student protests in Indonesia in 2022. The sociocultural analysis looks at the broader social conditions surrounding the song, including political events and policies that negatively impacted society. The findings reveal: (1) Textually, the song calls for societal uprising against a corrupt and damaging government; (2) Discursively, the song’s production and release were closely tied to the 2022 protests, with public reception reflecting this context; (3) Socioculturally, the song reflects a broader dissatisfaction with harmful governmental policies. This study contributes to the understanding of how music, particularly protest songs, can serve as a powerful instrument of social and political critique. Keywords Criticism, Government, Song, Critical Discourse Analysis, Norman Fairclough

Abstract

Abstract

The amount of waste in Padang City is estimated at 240 tons per day. Besides that, the number of TPAs from 1989 until now is only 1 TPA. This results in a buildup of rubbish, which emits a smell that disturbs the local community. This research aims to analyze the adaptation strategies of local communities in the final waste storage area in Aia Winter Village, Koto Tangah District, Padang City, West Sumatra. The theory used in this research is the adaptation strategy theory proposed by John William Bennett. This research uses qualitative research methods with descriptive research type. Informant withdrawal was carried out using purposive sampling techniques. The data collection method in this research began with observation, interviews and document study. Data analysis techniques are carried out in several stages, namely, data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research results show that there are 3 adaptation strategies carried out by the community around the waste landfill. These three adaptation strategies are related to adaptation behavior which is used by providing room freshener to avoid the smell caused by rubbish. Furthermore, the community uses strategic strategies to avoid the smell caused by rubbish by planting trees or reforestation. The adaptation process strategy is also carried out by local communities by using fly or insect traps and using waste that is still suitable for use. The novelty of the research is an environment-based adaptation strategy. Keywords: Strategy Adaptation, Local Community, TPA.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences in perceptions between Social Welfare students from the 2020 and 2021 cohorts at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, regarding the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Mengajar (MBKM) Teaching Campus program. A quantitative approach with a survey method was used to collect data through questionnaires distributed to samples from both cohorts. The results indicate that 2020 cohort students have a more positive perception of the program compared to 2021 cohort students, primarily due to differences in learning experiences and participation levels in the MBKM program. Students who have participated in the program tend to have a deeper understanding of its practical benefits, such as improved communication skills, leadership, and workplace adaptation. In contrast, students who have not participated rely more on secondary information and peer experiences to shape their perceptions. Another influencing factor is the level of expectation regarding the program's relevance to the field of social welfare. These findings provide valuable insights for the development of the MBKM Teaching Campus program, particularly in designing strategies to increase student participation by considering their academic experience and readiness for the professional world. Keywords:  Perception, Student, Kampus Mengajar, FISIP, KESOS

Abstract

This study discusses the advocacy strategy of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership Social Service Council of Special Region of Yogyakarta regarding the problems facing Jaya Musik Malioboro. The background to the formation of this research is because DIY in 2024 has proclaimed itself as a Disability-Friendly Province.  Malioboro was also proposed as part of the Yogyakarta Philosophical Axis, because it was necessary to reorganize the Malioboro area. It turns out that efforts to organize street vendors in Malioboro have created problems for disabled musicians. This research uses a qualitative method descriptive. The results of the study show that the advocacy strategy of the Social Service Council using informal or implied communication methods to influence key decision-making elites to prioritize the principle of inclusivism is still ongoing. Keywords: Muhammadiyah, Malioboro, Advocacy Stategy, Disabilities

Abstract

Village development planning based on community participation is essential for creating national welfare and stability. This study analyzes community participation in development planning in Padang Brahrang Village using the participatory village planning theory by Wicaksono and Sugiarto. A qualitative method was applied, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. A total of 8 informants were selected through purposive sampling, comprising village officials and community representatives. The research findings indicate: (1) community involvement is still dominated by specific groups, with participation limited to passive idea-sharing; (2) village government transparency is low, as critical information is only available in the Musrenbang (Development Planning Meeting) forum, restricting access for those who do not attend; and (3) gaps in participation and oversight of village development highlight the need for more inclusive and transparent participation mechanisms. Based on the findings, this study recommends: (a) new mechanisms to enhance community involvement, such as online surveys or digital platforms; (b) more inclusive village policies that involve vulnerable groups; (c) capacity building for village officials to conduct Musrenbang in a more participatory manner; and (d) equitable access to information through easily accessible media like village websites. These recommendations are expected to strengthen community participation and promote inclusive and sustainable village development. Keywords: Village Planning, Community Participation, Development, Transparency, Inclusivity.

Abstract

People with disabilities in society experience many problems in the form of stigma, discrimination, segregation, and so on, leading to exclusive society conditions. However, when referring to the development of the last two decades, there has been a shift from an exclusive to an inclusive society. In line with these developments, currently in Prambon Village, Tugu District, Trenggalek Regency there is an inclusive residential area initiated by the Naeema Foundation. People with disabilities in inclusive residential have close ties with the community, such as being involved in mutual cooperation activities, community service, and religious activities. This research focuses on the process of adapting persons with disabilities to the community and aims to find out and analyze in depth about the adaptation process. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. The results of this study show that people with disabilities living in inclusive residential are able to adapt to the community. Persons with disabilities living in inclusive housing are able to go through several stages of the adaptation process starting from the indecision conditions of adapting, the process of determining adaptation strategies, and finally being able to adapt with society. This research concludes that inclusive housing is able to act as a mediator in creating an inclusive society that is friendly, caring and helpful to each other between people with disabilities and the general public. Keywords: People with Disabilities, Adaptation Process, Inclusive Residential.
