Abstract

Metacognitive skill is essential to have by every individual, including the prospective teachers' students. Some teachers who have not trained in metacognitive ability would be caused by the lack of understanding of the stages in carrying out metacognitive ability. It has not realised that metacognitive ability can affect students' learning process and learning outcome. The students who have the excellent metacognitive ability can develop metacognitive domain-oriented learning. This study aims to know the metacognitive skills of prospective primary school teachers in Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. This research used a quantitative approach to descriptive type and survey method. The samples are 100 students of elementary school educations of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan consisted of the semester II, IV, and VI. The instrument used Metacognitive Ability Inventory (MAI) with the Likert scale(1-5). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics to determine the Mean, standard deviation, percentage, and metacognitive categorisation of elementary school education students. The research result showed a low-medium range category. It influenced by some factors related to the inadequate metacognitive development of prospective primary school teachers. Judging from the cognitive knowledge aspect, the high category of the percentage calculation of cognitive knowledge aspects is in the declarative knowledge aspect. In the cognitive regulation aspect, planning becomes the highest percentage of cognitive regulation aspect.

Abstract

The transition of TQM from the business field in education started in 1994 to strengthen the humanistic nature of education and improve quality service with the full participation of all involved. Cyprus recognized as a country with highly developed education services and qualitative characteristics that are easily identifiable. However, no studies are published yet concerning the implementation of TQM in Cyprus. The purpose is to examine the design and implementation of TQM at primary and secondary school settings in Cyprus and create a reference point of collecting all partial findings of TQM implementation in Cypriot education. A systematic recording of research included the design and implementation of TQM in education settings using ten electronic databases and keywords including education, TQM and the six factors determining the quality of TQM services. The research included peer-reviewed articles, doctoral theses, and conference abstracts during the last 20 years, leading to future TQM implementation conclusions. Cyprus nowadays focuses on the overall evaluation and implementation of TQM through innovation and quality improvement in education, differentiated and virtual teaching, adapted learning and inclusion of students with disabilities, and hiring new teaching staff that will implement a holistic approach of promoting TQM within school settings.

Abstract

Teaching continues to be a persisting problem in the Philippine educational system, which is also evident in the rural school where this study has been conducted. As a remedy, the researchers organized a professional learning community in the form of a school learning action cell (SLAC) to provide capacity-building assistance to out-of-field teachers and promote collaborative working culture. This study aims to determine the intervention's perceived effects by conducting a qualitative inquiry that utilizes grounded theory and thematic analysis. Seven teachers participated and were interviewed post-intervention. Results of the study revealed that SLAC sessions contribute to the general well-being of the teachers in their view of the profession as it 'reduced their tasks’ and 'promoted workplace collaboration.' On the other hand, it also impacted their pedagogy, which was found to have contributed to their 'instructional mastery’ and ‘teacher efficacy.' However, the researchers caution that, though the intervention has been successful, it should be taken in its suggestive nature when out-of-field teaching is unavoidable. Finally, the researchers conclude that, though the intervention was found to be promising, administrators must, whenever feasible, adhere to the idyllic educational landscape and assign teachers according to their respective specialized fields.

Abstract

The covid-19 outbreak has led to many opportunities and chances for teachers and lecturers to create many media for online learning. The purpose of this research discusses 1) to design Digital storytelling in online learning, 2) to study the implementation of teaching English by using digital storytelling, and 3) to find out the practicality of digital storytelling for pre-service teacher students. This research uses d research development model developed by Alessi and Trollip (2001), which consists of three stages; the first stage is planning, the second stage designs, and third is development which focuses on designing digital storytelling to find more about the impact of digital storytelling as an online learning media process for English teaching material. The sample was 180 junior high students to get the needed analysis data, eight pre-service teacher students implemented the digital storytelling in the online classroom, and two evaluators to assess the appropriateness of digital storytelling to be used by pre-service teachers as it is found in this research that designing digital storytelling showed practically on how digital storytelling was designed, developed and applied in English class. The pre-service students successfully implemented digital storytelling, and the appropriateness was high, which can be used in the online teaching process

Abstract

Mathematical connection is the ability to make connections to understanding mathematical concepts that are associated with contexts outside of mathematics. Various studies revealed that the students' mathematical connection is still low; therefore, this study aims to describe the difficulties of junior high school students in mathematical connection ability. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. The study sample was 52 students from a junior high school in East Flores Regency. The methods used in this study were tests, observations, and interviews. The study results showed that the mathematical connection ability based on the three indicators of connection ability tends to be below. Students did not understand concepts that had been studying; easy to forget concepts, principles and procedures; not used to use concepts, principles and procedures; assume mathematics has nothing to do with other sciences; not accustomed to applying mathematical concepts in everyday life; lack of understanding about the story
