Abstract

This study aimed to determine the potential of Tali bamboo leaf tea (Gigantochloa apus) on the lipid profile of metabolic syndrome rats. This study is an laboratory-based experimental study using 30 male Wistar rats with metabolic syndrom aged 8 weeks and weighed 150–250 g, that were divided into 5 groups namely negative control (K-), positive control (K+), and three intervention groups with intervention doses of bamboo leaf tea at 300, 600, and 900 mg/200 g BW for 28 days. The results showed that there were significant differences (p<0.05) in High- Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (HDL-C) and Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) levels before and after intervention. Tali bamboo leaf tea has the potential to improve the lipid profile of rats with metabolic syndrome (p<0.001).

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional status, beverage consumption habits, and disease frequency in high school students. Data were collected through an online questionnaire to explore the characteristics of the subjects: weight, height, beverage consumption habits, and disease frequency. The subjects were 78 students at SMA Muhammadiyah 25 Pamulang, Banten. This study has discovered nutritional status and nutritious beverage consumption habits are not related to disease frequency (p>0.05). Meanwhile, herbal beverage consumption habits are related to disease frequency (p<0.05). The herbal drink contains antioxidants that can improve immunity and cause less frequent disease.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the adequacy of commercial enteral nutrition for nutrition needs of stroke patients with Nasogastric Tube (NGT) installation at Undata Hospital. The research was a case study of one stroke patient with NGT. The patient's nutrient intake for three days was measured for energy requirement (87.6%), carbohydrates (76.7%), protein (83.76%), and fat (122.98%). The patient was given commercial food Blendera-MF and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) in moderation without incidence of vomiting. Therefore, giving enteral feeding (Blendera-MF) to patients fulfills their nutritional needs.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between screen time duration and Sugar-Sweetened Beverage (SSB) consumption with body fat percentage among female students in Semarang. This cross-sectional study employed 75 female students aged 18‒25 years in Islamic Boarding School KH Sahlan Rosjidi Semarang. The mean screen time duration was 8.41±3.28 hours/day, SSB consumption frequency was 4.77±4.31 times/week, and body fat percentage was 26.76±7.26%. SSB consumption was dominated by powdered drinks. The test has discovered a relationship between screen time duration (p=0.000, r=0.443) and the frequency of SSB consumption such as powdered drinks (p=0.002, r=0.350), packaged milk (p=0.038, r=0.240), yogurt (p=0.013, r=0.286), packaged coffee (p=0.022, r=0.264), and carbonated drinks (p=0.005, r=0.320) with body fat percentage.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of seaweed rice on Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) and Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) levels in humans measured using finger prick method. This research was a quasi-experimental study with pre-posttest design. A total of 34 adult subjects were divided into control and intervention groups. The intervention group received 250 g/day of seaweed rice made by extrusion method at 8 AM for 42 days, while the control group received none. The results showed that the intervention had no significant effect on either FBG or SOD levels.

Abstract

This review aimed to examine review papers on effects of Ultra-Processed Foods (UPFs) on vulnerable groups, specifically malnourished children. While some studies showed negative health effects of UPFs, others showed that UPFs were beneficial. For example, fortified biscuits improved nutrient levels in primary school children and ready-to-use therapeutic foods helped malnourished children. Overall, it is crucial to balance the potential benefits and risks of UPFs. Therefore, policymakers should adopt a multifaceted approach that includes redefinition, reformulation, regulation, and education about the mindful consumption of UPFs.

Abstract

This study investigated the differences in metabolic syndrome risk factors and psychological stress levels among school teachers in rural and urban areas during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Waist circumference, High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and triglyceride levels, hypertension status, and fasting blood glucose were measured in 71 participants. The results showed higher rates of large waist circumference and hypertension in rural areas, and higher rates of low HDL, high triglyceride, and high fasting blood glucose in urban areas. In addition, a greater percentage of individuals in both rural and urban areas experienced high level of stress. These findings suggest different health risks associated with living in different areas during the pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the nutrient profiling profile of snack bars according to Indonesian healthier choice criteria for healthier choice. Snack bars were purchased and classified into soy-, cereal-, and other -based snack bars. Nutritional information were was compared with the healthier choice criteria. Soy-based snack bars had the highest protein content (20.94±6.12 g/100 g) compared to others-based snack bars (11.21±5.13 g/100 g) and cereal-based snack bars (8.36±3.55 g/100 g) with p<0.001. Others-based snack bars (15.30±5.54 g/100 g) had the highest dietary fiber content compared to soy-based (8.91±2.11 g/100 g) and cereal-based snack bars (7.06±3.26 g/100 g) with p<0.001. Only two snack bars passed the criteria as “healthier choice” while others need to be reformulated to pass the criteria.
