Abstract

The general objective of this research was to analyze the correlation between life style with health status of Sumber Alam’s Drivers in Purworejo District, Central Java. The research was conducted using cross sectional study design from July throughAugust 2009 in PO Sumber Alam Purworejo District.Sample was chosen by simple random sampling which resulted67drivers. Almost all the samples (91%) had smoking habit and all of the samples had no habit on alcohol drinking. More than half (58.2%) had excersice habit. The physical activity levels in work day was higher than that in holiday  (p<0.05). More than half samples (67.2%) eat rice three times a day. Tempeh was popular side dishes consumed by almost all samples more than three times a week. Egg was consumed by almost half samples once until three times a week. Generally, intake of vegetables, fruits and milk was still low, as well as intake of food that have high risk for degenerative disease. The nutritional status of samples ranged from underweight to obesity, with more than half categorized as normal nutritional status. For the last one month, there were 7.5% samples suffered for degenerative diseases, 20.9% for infectious diseases and 16.4% for non infectious disease.

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to study social economy and body mass index of men andit’s correlation with risk factor of coronary heart disease in rural and urban of Bogor, West Java. The amount of samples were 100 adult men aged 25-39 of years. Samples were devided into two categories of expense which as < Rp 500.000/capita/month (low income) and ³ Rp 500.000/cap/month,- (high income). Results of this study showed that using independent t-test there was a significant difference between low income and high income samples in rural area in the case of family size, education level, income per capita, total expenditure, nutritional knowledge score and HDL cholesterol level. In urban area, we found significance difference in the case of family size, education level, income per capita, total expenditure, total cholesterol level, LDL and HDL cholesterol level between low income and high income samples. Spearman rank correlation test in rural area showed significance correlation between education level, income per capita, total expenditure, and nutritional knowledge score with HDL cholesterol level. Income per capita and total expenditure correlated significantly with total cholesterol level and BMI correlated significantly with level of triglyceride. Meanwhile, in urban area we found significant correlation between education level, total expenditure, nutritional knowledge score, and BMI with total cholesterol level. Education level and nutritional knowledge score correlated significantly with LDL cholesterol level, and BMI correlated significantly with level of triglyceride.

Abstract

Serum ferritin and hemoglobin concentration were used to iron deficiency anemia (IDA) tests over population. The prevalence of IDA prevalence in pregnant women were 18% over the world, 37.5% in Asia, and 46.5% in Bali. The iron supplementation that was administrated during pregnancy did not clinically proven to solve the problems. It was predicted that the IDA was existing before pregnant. So, the body iron store must be prepare before pregnancy period. This research aimed to know the serum ferritin and hemoglobin concentration in the new married women in Bali. The design of this research was descriptive cross sectional study and conducted at 276 new married women by multistage sampling method. Every participant was interviewed for characteristic data and taken blood sample to evaluate serum ferritin and hemoglobin. Serum ferritin and hemoglobin were examined by Immulite 2000 Ferritin and Sysmex SF-3000 and the data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. The mean of serum ferritin and hemoglobin concentration are 29.41±20.36 µg/dl and 11.35±0.92 g/dl. The serum ferritin level proportions 20-29 µg/dl, less than 20 µg/dl, and ≥100 µg/dl are 145 (51.9%), 130 (47.1%), and 1(0.4%), eventually. The hemoglobin value <12 g/dl was found in 36.2% population and amount 63.8% population with hemoglobin value ≥12 g/dl. According on iron status, the proportion of anemia was23.6%, proportion of iron deficiency was19.2% and proportion of IDA was14.1%. Based on the result, ferritin in the new married women Bali was mostly low level but hemoglobin concentration was mostly normal. Although, they have problem in the proportion of iron deficiency, anemia and iron deficiency anemia, that were 19.2%, 23.6% and 14.1%, respectively.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the use of RPO as a sources of natural provitamin A in instant noodle product for under five children. For this purpose 5 formulas were developed based on RPO’s level added to the formula (0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%). The result shown that instant noodle with 75% RPO was the best formula of RPO instant noodle. No significant difference in acceptance between this formula and other commercial instant noodle (α>0.05). The result of RPO instant noodle’s chemical analysis were moisture content 7.40% (wb), ash content 2.51% (db), protein content 13.66% (db), fat content 9.84% (db), carbohydrate was 74.49% (db) and carotenoid 136.41 ppm (≈ 76.42 ppm β-carotene ≈ 636.8 RE/serving size). RPO instant noodle has physical properties as follow, optimum cooking time was 3 minutes, the color was yellow-red, elasticity properties was 261.94%-455.65% and water holding capacity was 137.98%. This noodle was contributing 100% of vitamin A RDA for the children.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze the correlation among intensity of food insecurity and food coping strategy with energy intake and child nutritional status. The study design was a crosectional study.  Research was conducted in Pandeglang Distric, in April - May – July 2009. A purposive sampling were applied to select 220 households. The data collected include socio economi, food coping strategy, intensity of food insequrity and, food intake. The Rank Sperman and Pearsons test were applied to analyse correlation between variable socio economic, food insecurity intensity, food coping strategy and energy intake. Logistic regression was used to analyze determinant of food insecurity intensity. Multiple regression was used to analyse determinant of energy intake. The results showed that there were significant correlatin between intensity of food insequrity with household expenditure, and food coping startegy. Determinan of food insecurity intensity were household expenditure per capita (OR=0.033) and type of food insecurity program (OR=6.664). determinan of energy intake were food insecurity intensity, household expenditure percapita and household size.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to know the correlation between nutrition and health knowledge, behavior of healthy life, and physical characteristic of the house towards health sighs of public transportation driver. Design of this study was a cross sectional study. The criterions of sample were (1) driver of Kampus Dalam and Leuwiliang route; (2) man; (3) age more than 30 years old; (4) had been worked as public transportation driver more than 2 years; (5) can communicate and ready for having an interview. The amount of sample is 60 respondents. The type of data was primary and secondary data. The primary data (individual and family characteristic, nutrition and health knowledge, life style, pattern of food consumption, behavior of healthy life, physical characteristic of the house, and health sighs of the driver) was collected by structural questionnaire interview. The body weight and height data were collected by direct measurement on the study sites. The secondary data had been obtained from “Dinas Perhubungan” of Bogor District. This study showed that nutrition and health knowledge, behavior of healthy life, and physical characteristic of the house did not correlate to health sighs of the public transportation driver. The correlation was analyzed by Spearman’s correlation.

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze of relationship of the implementation of balanced nutrition messages family and behavior family nutrition awareness with under five years child nutritional status in West Kalimantan Province. The study uses Health Research Data Base of West Kalimantan Province in year 2007 with the design of cross-sectional study. The total of 1992 household samples were recruited in the study with criteria having child aged 6 to 59 months. Weight for height, weight for age and height for age indicators were used to measure child nutritional status. The results showed that three messages did not meet criteria as required by the Indonesian Food Guideines. Three messages did not meet criteria as required by the Indonesian Food Guidelines. They were eat food withr energy needs requaired, eat half of food sources of carbohydrate for energy needs and eating one of  fourth of food sources of fat for energy needs. Logistic multiple regression analysis showed that failure to follow the the Family Nutrition Awareness had 1.21 risk for children to became stunting than family to follow to guideline properly.

Abstract

The present study aims to analyze of influence maternal education to under five years-old children in West Kalimantan Province. The study uses Health Research Data Base of West Kalimantan Province in year 2007 with the design of cross-sectional study. The total of 1992 household samples were recruited in the study with criteria having child aged 6 to 59 months. Weight for height, weight for age, and height for age indicators were used to measure child nutritional status. The results showed that Logistic multiple regression analysis showed that maternal education under level of junior high school had 1.28 risk for children to become stunting and 1.27 risk for children to become underweight than maternal education level of above junior high school.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine the chemical and organoleptic characteristics of Cucumis melo L. jelly candies with the addition of sorbitol and Curcuma domestika Val. extract. This research was conducted in the Chemical Laboratory of Agricultural, Department of Agricultural Technology, Agricultural Faculty, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, from January 2010 to June 2010.This research used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design with two treatments and three replications for each treatment. S factor was the addition of sorbitol concentration (9%, 16% and 23%) and E was the concentration factor addition of Curcuma domestika Val. extract (5%, 7% and 9%). The results showed that the addition of sorbitol concentration had significant effect on the water content, pH, total sugar and antioxidant activity of Cucumis melo L. jelly candies. The addition of Curcuma domestika Val. extract had significant effect on the water content and antioxidant activity of Cucumis melo L. jelly candies. Interaction addition of sorbitol and Curcuma domestika Val. extract had significant effect on the antioxidant activity of jelly candies.S2E2 treatment (sorbitol 20% and 7.5% Curcuma domestika Val. extract) was the best treatment with chemical characteristics (water content 36.48%, ash content 3.01%, pH 5.03, total sugar 37.00% and the antioxidant activity 27.09%), and sensory characteristics by scoring preferences (color 3.08, texture 2.88, odour 3.08  and taste 2.88).

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is degeneratif disease with high prevalence that happens in many countries. Several studies had been done to control diabetes by using green tea, mullberry leaf  tea, and their mixture. The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of the administration green tea, mullbery leaf tea, and their mixtures to blood glucose level of diabetic rats both during 120 minutes after administration. This research had four phases, first to determine the best mullberry leaf tea, second to fourth phases respectively, determine turnover of blood glucose level on normal rats; attempt during 120 minutes on diabetic rats.  The result of research during 120 minutes have showed that blood glucose level on diabetic rats which were administered by green tea, mullberry leaf tea and their mixture is significantly difference with diabetic rats which were administered by water. Blood glucose level at baseline increased at 30th minutes and showed the difference significantly and then until 60th and 120th minutes and relatively stable. During 120 minutes after feed consumption, inhibition of blood glucose level occured increasingly on diabetic rats which were administered by green tea, mullberry leaf tea, and their mixture compared to diabetic rats which were administered by water.
