Abstract

The objective of this research is to calculate the amount of investment to establish shrimp paste business in Pulau Kampai Village and to evaluate the level of feasibility of the Kecapai shrimp paste (Acetes indicus) processing business based on financial aspects (financial) using undiscounted and discounted investment criteria analysis and sensitivity. The survey method was employed in this research, and the respondents were determined through census. The data was taken directly from the 32 shrimp paste entrepreneurs using observation, interviews, and documentation. As per the results of this study, the investment needed to initiate a shrimp paste business in the micro scale is Rp8.089.018,- while a resource needed in the small scale is Rp12.425.200,-. when it is not shrimp season or season in a month, micro and small scale businesses are considered eligible to continue because they exceed the break even point, and the results of the undiscounted investment analysis BEP volume and price of production when it is not season or season in a month micro and small scale are declared eligible to continue because they exceed the break even point. Nevertheless, the ROI for micro and small scale when it is not season and season is declared unfeasible because it will be less than one. The NPV, IRR, B/C Ratio, PP, micro, and small scale are declared viable to produce for the computation of the discounted investment criteria since they match the eligibility criteria. Nevertheless, a sensitivity analysis reveals that one possibility, namely a fall in selling prices and a rise in variable expenses, renders the business unviable.

Abstract

Agricultural sector is a major contributor in the economic structure of Lampung.  More than 44,75% people work in agricultural sector. However, the productivity of the agricultural sector was lower than other economic sectors. This study was conducted to analyze the development of agricultural sector based on the condition of the output, added value, and supply contribution basis. Method of cross-tabulation analysis was conducted on Input Output Table Lampung in 2010. The results of the analysis showed that the agricultural sector in Lampung province was still dominant in the economic structure of the region. But attention to the downward trend that occurred in each sub-sector needs to be paid because stagnation and slowing growth rate will be higher. Output contributions of agricultural sector were dominated by food crops, fisheries, plantation, and livestock. Meanwhile, the greatest added value contributor were primary agricultural sector and the food industry in the downstream (agroindustry). However, no sectors that have the largest distribution in Lampung are directly related to agriculture.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyse the economic value of farmland (farmland rent) and determined the factors that affect convertion of paddy land into Patin fish farm at Seputih Raman Subdistrict, Central Lampung Regency. In this research the researcher employed survey method. The research location was chosen purposively with the consideration that in Seputih Raman Subdistrict there were farmers whose paddy farmlands were converted into ‘Patin fish farm and that it was also the second largest Patin fish producing area in Central Lampung Regency. Based on Roscoe’s theory, the samples of the research consisted of 30 paddy farmers and 30 Patin fish farmers. The primary (respondent interview) and secondary data (BPS data) of the research were taken from March to May 2020. The methods used in data analysis were; land rental analysis and logit analysis. The result showed that the value of the land rental on Patin fish farming per hectare per year was higher than the land rent value of the paddy farming per hectare per year. The internal factors that affected the decision to convert paddy land into the ‘Patin’ fish pondwere; age of the farmers, education background, farming experience, and land size. Besides, there were external factors that encouraged farmers to make decisions to convert paddy farmland into ‘Patin’ fish pond; they were the price of ‘Patin’ fish which was higher than paddy and the frequency of harvesting ‘patin’ fish which was little higher than paddy. The main factor that encourageed farmers to keep farming paddy was the cost of the paddy farming which was lower than ‘patin’ fish farming.
