Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the combination of tobacco leaf extract (Nicotiana tabacum) and green binahong leaf (Anredera cordifolia steenis) against myiasis. The study used the in vitro method for testing, while the leaf extract was obtained using the immersion method. This research was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with a one-way pattern (One Way ANNOVA) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The test uses fresh beef samples that have been rotten for 6 days at room temperature. The fresh weight of each meat sample was 100 grams. The treatments were P0 (control: only water), P1 (100% tobacco), P2 (100% green binahong), P3 (50% tobacco: 50% green binahong), P4 (70% tobacco: 30 green binahong) and P5 (30% tobacco: 70% green binahong). The results observed in the study included the time (seconds) required for larvae to come out of the meat after spraying on each treatment, the death of myiasis larvae at 5, 10, 15, and 25 minutes. The results showed that treatment P4 got the best results. compared with other treatments with a significant difference at the level of p <0.05. Key words: Tobacco leaves, Binahong leaves, Myiasis, Animal health.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the response of final body weight and growth of broiler chest muscle given fermented and unfermented palm kernel cake as raw material for substitution of rice bran in broiler rations. This study used a completely randomized design consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications filled with 2 chickens each. The treatments consisted of P0 (control), P1 (10% palm kernel cake), P2 (10% fermented palm kernel cake), P3 (15% fermented palm kernel cake), and P4 (20% palm kernel cake). The results showed that the treatment had a significant effect (P<0.05) on the final weight or slaughter weight and the percentage of boneless breast meat, but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the percentage of breast bone and the ratio of bone meat. The addition of palm kernel cake up to 15% can increase the boneless broiler breast meat, although it tends to reduce the final weight of the broiler. So that the substitution of rice bran with fermented palm kernel cake can be replaced by up to 15%. Keywords: Palm kernel cake, Boneless, Boneless broiler meat, Meat and bone ratio

Abstract

The antibiotics as feed additive had been prohibited by the government regulation, because it was feared that it would pose a risk to livestock and residues in the products they produce. The ban is an opportunity for the development of innovations in feeding, such as the use of herbal plants as natural feed additives (NFA). The provision of NFA had been carried out by several researchers to the performance of kids and lambs. Kids and lambs are one of the key stages of successful sheep and goat farming. Kids and lambs that are healthy and have good performance will certainly be good breeds for livestock farming. Utilization of herbs and spices containing polyphenolic compounds has various effects on livestock, especially kids and lambs. The benefits or effects of NFA on kids and lambs are summarized in several studies, namely faster livestock growth, increased feed digestibility, feed efficiency, and economic efficiency. In addition, NFA also affects metabolic function and immunity, and reduces methane gas emissions without disturbing the rumen microbial population. Meat produced from kids and lambs supplemented with NFA also showed increased oxidative stability and increased PUFA and MUFA levels. Keywords: additive, herb, polyphenol, goat, lamb, kids

Abstract

Artificial insemination (AI) is one of the appropriate techniques in increasing cattle productivity and to improve cow genetics. However, not all people are interested in implementing IB Technology. This study aims to explain how to increase the interest of the breeder community to apply artificial insemination technology. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach. The total sample of 33 respondents was taken by purposive sampling, namely farmers who have at least one calf produced by means of artificial insemination (IB) technology. The analysis used for knowledge and interest variables is descriptive analysis, regression analysis, and T-Test. From the research results obtained knowledge and interest are very influential in improving the application of artificial insemination (IB) technology. The contribution of increasing each variable is knowledge by 24.4% and interest by 48.8%. From these results, it can be concluded that the interest and knowledge of the farming community about artificial insemination technology is very influential or significant based on the results of the T-Test which shows that the substantial value in the attitude of farmers is (0.000) < (0.05). With the implementation of artificial insemination technology carried out by farmers, the community is expected to be able to increase the productivity and quality of their livestock genetic products Keywords: Breeding Community; Interest; Knowledge; Artificial Insemination Technology

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using rations based on local raw materials as a substitute for commercial rations on the production performance (ration consumption, body weight gain and ration conversion) of broilers. This study used 100 DOC without male and female separation. The cages used were box cages measuring 75x60x50 cm per unit of 20 units and each unit consisting of 5 chickens. This research method is an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD), with 5 ration treatments and 4 replications. The treatment rations were A (100% Commercial / Control Ration), B (75% Commercial Ration + 25% Local Ration) C (50% Commercial Ration + 50% Local Ration), D (25 % Commercial Ration + 75% Local Ration) and E (100% Local Basal Ration). Parameters measured were ration consumption (g/head/week), body weight gain (g/head/week) and broiler ration conversion. The results of the analysis of diversity showed that the provision of rations based on local raw materials as a substitute for commercial rations had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on ration consumption, body weight gain and broiler ration conversion. The results of the DMRT test showed that the provision of rations based on local raw materials as a substitute for commercial rations on ration consumption, body weight gain and ration conversion in treatments B, C and D were not significantly different from treatment A, but significantly higher than treatment E. Based on this study it can be concluded that giving 25% commercial ration + 75% local ration has the same effect as giving 100% commercial ration (control ration).
