Abstract

Export rejection has become an issue of concern for both exporting and importing countries. Rejection of food exports that occur directly or indirectly resulted in losses experienced by many parties. The purposes of this research were to identify the factors that play a role in the calculation of the estimated economic losses due to the rejection of export food and estimated the value of the economic losses. The commodities studied were tuna, shrimp, and nutmeg. While the export destination studied were the United States, the European Union, and Japan. The method used in this research was survey and descriptive analysis. The calculation of the estimated economic losses was done by using the equation obtained from the result of a literature study and data collection. Components that contribute to the calculation of estimated losses due to a rejection of Indonesian exports consist of the loss of sales and related activities on communication, testing and retesting, transportation and execution. The highest economic losses based on data from the three years (2014-2016) was on tuna that was estimated at US$3.01 million per year by the rejection from the United States. The transportation cost contributed to the highest loses as much as 59% or US$2.4 million per year.

Abstract

The leadership of a ship captain is often a philosophy or role model that is ideally used for professional leaders and family leaders. As we often hear, a leader is commonly related to a boat captain who leads a fleet across a vast sea to the dock, with the power to control the steering wheel. The purpose of this study is to explore the character of the captain's leadership on a ship that can be taken as a leadership philosophy in general. The research method used was a phenomenological approach since the problems studied involve problems that developed in the life of the captain. The phenomenology approach is one of the qualitative method approaches. Broadly speaking, leadership on board represents the ability to gain respect and authority from the crew. On the ship, leadership is a requirement for the growth of the organization of crew activities. In the shipping industry, there is a constant need to identify and nurture future leaders who have the potential to excel in critical leadership roles on board.

Abstract

The research aimed to analyze maritime safety and security policy in supporting of marine transportation system. This study uses descriptive method, because the data collected in the form of words, images, and not the numbers. The data comes from interviews, field observations, focus group discussions, videotapes, photos, notes or memos, and other official documents. Data analysis with ethical and emic approach and triangulation process. Determination of Informant with purposive technique. Result of research: Sea transport in Indonesia not yet optimally developed, but has strong potency to be developed, considering its characteristic able to do mass transportation. Therefore, the safety and security system is a key factor to be considered and as a basis and benchmark for decision makers. The safety and security system of sea transportation in Indonesia has not run optimally, there are still many accidents both because of natural factors and human factors. Government policies in the maritime field, whether the fishery industry or the shipping industry have not been implemented consistently in accordance with applicable law. So far, the development of maritime potential has been hit by structural problems, and there is no national political awareness of the magnitude of the economic, fisheries and maritime potentials. Little is known about the potential content of Indonesia’s marine resources, thus opening the door for various research and development of biodiversity.

Abstract

Transportation is the backbone in creating social welfare in Jakarta. Therefore, if there are problems in the transportation system, it will have an impact on the smooth traffic flow and will ultimately hamper the achievement of public welfare. This study used a descriptive-qualitative method. This study refers to the theory proposed by Anderson (in Tachjan, 2006: 23) and Sarana, et al (2009: 9). The results of the study are as follows. Policy implementation transportation system in Jakarta has been able to improve the social welfare of most citizens, which means some people have to feel and enjoy the outcome of transportation development  in Jakarta. However, others have not optimally felt the positive impact of the policy. Even, it is perceived negatively; such as traffic jams which are almost evenly distributed throughout Jakarta causing high air pollution, hampered economic activity and generated high economic costs that social welfare was also weakened. This is reinforced by the increasing poverty rate in 2014 that reached 393,980 people thousand compared to previous years.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to find out the relations between Commuter Line passengers’ characteristics and factors affect respondents’ answers of Willingness to Pay (WTP). Since October 2017, PT. KAI has operated Commuter Line from Cikarang to Jakarta Kota to enhance the mobility of Cikarang residents and the surrounding areas. The operational activity of Commuter Line should consider the consumers ability in paying and the quality of services provided by the operators. The data was collected by spreading the questioners to passengers in Cikarang station. The data was analyzed using quantitative descriptive and tabulated using SPSS. There are six characteristics with sufficient results related to passengers’ satisfactory in using Commuter Line which are reliability, comfort, safety, easy access, equality, and secure. Factors affect WTP are income and purpose of the travel. The result shows that WTP is Rp.9.796 which means increasing about 95 % if the quality of services is also increasing

Abstract

Public transport services provided by Bus Rapid Transit TransJakarta has been launched by the local government of DKI Jakarta as a mass and rapid transport mode that can attract the users of personal vehicle to use this mode of transport. Although the passengers are increasing, but the condition has not reached the optimum level yet. This study is done as an attempt to map the image perceived by the users, either frequent users, occasional users, or non-frequent users. The image projected by the users will depend on the experience degree and information each individual has. The method used here is descriptive analysis and reduction factor to obtain the dimensions of image in the respondents’ mind toward TransJakarta bus. The result shows five dimensions that construct the image, namely affective dimension (Eigenvalue = 5,488, or 26% of all variances), dimension of vehicle aspects (Eigenvalue = 1,794, or 8.5% of all variances), dimension of service characteristic (Eigenvalue = 1,635, or 7.8% of all variances), dimension of impact on the trip (Eigenvalue = 1,348, or 6.4% of all variances), and dimension of impact on the user/other people (Eigenvalue = 1,088, or 5.1% of all variances).
