Abstract

Objective – This research aims to analyze the impact of Effective Time : Berthing Time on the Berth Occupancy Ratio at Mirah Port, Tanjung Perak, by assessing its efficiency and compliance with operational standards.Design/methodology/approach – The research applies a quantitative method with simple linear regression analysis. The data were obtained from monthly Performance Standards Reports of KSOP Utama Tanjung Perak from 2020 to 2024. The analysis was conducted using SPSS version 26 to determine the statistical significance of Effective Time : Berthing Time’s impact on Berth OccupancyRatio.Findings – The analysis shows that the Effective Time to Berthing Time ratio for both 2023 and 2024 consistently falls below the required minimum standard. Despite this, the Berth Occupancy Ratio remains within a safe range and does not surpass the established threshold. Further hypothesis testing demonstrates that there is a significant relationship between the Effective Time to Berthing Time ratio and the Berth Occupancy Ratio. However, this ratio only explains a small portion of the variation in BerthOccupancy Ratio, suggesting that most of the changes are influenced by other factors not covered in this study.Research limitations/implications – The research is limited to Terminal Mirah and covers only the period from 2020 to 2024. Future research should consider expanding the dataset and including other performance factors.Practical implications – Terminal Mirah should enhance operational effectiveness through infrastructure optimization, workforce training, and improved cargo handling efficiency to raise Effective Time : Berthing Time values, ensuring optimal Berth Occupancy Ratio utilization.Originality/value – This research contributes to port management studies by establishing the relationship between Effective Time : Berthing Time and Berth Occupancy Ratio, highlighting the need for improved operational efficiency to meet regulatory standards.

Abstract

Objective – This research aims to analyze the impact of product innovation on total sales of manufacturing firm in Indonesia Design/methodology/approach – Using a quantitative approach, this research uses secondary data, namely survey data from 1.025 Indonesian manufacturing companies in 2015. The data analysis used in this research is Propensity Score Matching (PSM) Findings – The results of the study show that manufacturing companies that innovate products receive total sales 4.57% higher than the control group (companies that do not innovate products), ceteris paribus. From these results, it can be concluded that to improve the innovation performance of Indonesian manufacturing companies, company activities and government policies must be aimed at factors that can support the level of company innovation. Research limitations/implications – This study uses secondary data, namely survey data of 1025 Indonesian manufacturing companies in 2015 obtained from the World Bank. This survey was conducted on small, medium and large manufacturing companies located in the provinces of West Java, East Java, Central Java, DKI Jakarta, Banten, South Sulawesi, North Sumatra, Bali and Lampung. As a recommendation, the author suggests further research in a different kinds of companies in Indonesia. Practical implications – This study will encourage companies to do more innovation in their business as the innovation has a positive relation with total sales. Originality/value – Currently there is no research that analyzes how and how much impact the innovation has on the company's total sales, especially in Indonesia. Therefore the originality lies in the whole research.

Abstract

Objective – This research aims to systematically review and synthesize research on New Product Development (NPD) from a Supply Chain Management (SCM) perspective, identifying dominant themes, research methods, and future directions. Design/methodology/approach – A systematic literature review (SLR) using secondary data consisting of 30 international journals related to new product development from a supply chain perspective. The selection of international journals is following the discussion contained in the research conducted by researchers related to new product development and its relationship to the supply chain, or journals that examine the causal relationship between the two. Findings – The review reveals that case study is the most frequently employed method, accounting for over half of the studies. Key research themes include supply chain configuration, customer fit, framework development, decision support, supplier collaboration, risk management, and sustainable SCM. A notable shift is observed from product-focused innovation toward more customer-driven and collaborative approaches. Modeling approaches such as Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) have begun to incorporate uncertainty into NPD decisions, though their application remains limited. Research limitations/implications – The literature remains concentrated in manufacturing sectors and developed regions, limiting the generalizability of many conceptual frameworks. Additionally, methodological diversity remains low, with few studies employing advanced quantitative or hybrid approaches. Practical implications – The study provides insights for managers and practitioners on aligning NPD with supply chain strategies. It highlights the need for adaptable and resilient SCM configurations to support rapid, customer-focused product development. Originality/value – This review offers a comprehensive map of the current academic landscape on NPD in SCM, identifies methodological and thematic gaps, and provides a foundation for future cross-industry, multidisciplinary, and sustainability-oriented research.

Abstract

Objective–This study aims to investigate the influence of work procedures and punishment on employee productivity, with work quality as a mediating variable, at PT ABC in Bojonegoro. It specifically examines whether work quality can mediate the effects of work procedures and punishment on productivity.Design/methodology/approach – Using a quantitative descriptive approach, data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to 48 employees from unit 801 of PT ABC. The research employed path analysis using SPSS version 25 to test direct and indirect relationships among variables: work procedures, punishment, work quality, and employee productivity.Findings – The results indicate that work procedures, punishment, and work quality each have a direct and significant positive effect on employee productivity. Work procedures and punishment also have significant positive effects on work quality. However, the study found that work quality does not significantly mediate the relationship between either work procedures or punishment and employee productivity.Research limitations/implications – These findings contribute to organizational behavior and human resource management theories by confirming that structured procedures and fair punishment mechanisms directly improve productivity. However, they challenge assumptions about the mediating role of work quality, particularly in high-target environments and Future studies should consider expanding the scope to include multiple units or companies across different sectors to enhance the external validity of the findings.Practical implications – For management, the study highlights the importance of maintaining clear SOPs and transparent punishment systems. However, it also emphasizes the need to align productivity metrics with quality assurance processes. Organizations are encouraged to integrate employee training and performance feedback to enhance work quality alongside productivity.Originality/value – This research offers novel insights into the limited mediating role of work quality in the relationship between procedural and disciplinary mechanisms and productivity. It underscores the complex interaction between external motivators and internal work values in driving performance within operational teams
