Abstract

As many as 89.3% of people in Sungai Rangas Hambuku Village still use river water for daily purposes. Turbidity measurements in 2021 amounted to 56 Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU) and in 2023 amounted to 53 NTU. Training on how to reduce the level of turbidity using alum has been provided in 2021, but the community has difficulty applying alum in a solid dosage form. The purpose of this activity is to train participants in administering alum to water taken from the river with modifications in the form of a solution preparation. Abstract

Elderly individuals generally undergo various physical and health changes. They tend to be more susceptible to various chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, and neurological disorders like dementia. Therefore, they require specialized care and ongoing monitoring. These efforts can help prevent diseases and enhance the quality of life for the elderly. Some of the main issues frequently faced by elderly individuals living in nursing homes are related to their health, including chronic diseases, mental disorders, and physical decline. The goal of this community service is to make a tangible contribution to improving elderly healthcare services through collaboration between the community service team and the staff of the independent living facility. The target of this community service team is 63 elderly individuals residing at PTSW Madago Tentena. The results of the community service activities indicate that most of the elderly residents at PTSW suffer from chronic diseases, including 13 individuals (20.64%) with diabetes mellitus, 41 (65.1%) with hypertension, 2 (3.2%) with severe cognitive impairment, and 5 (7.9%) with mild cognitive impairment. The health status is categorized as severe for 8 (12%), moderate for 30 (48%), and mild for 25 (40%). Therefore, the outcomes of this community service can serve as a reference for the nursing home staff to strive for improved health among the elderly and collaborate with other institutions to provide healthcare services in the facility.

Abstract

Elderly individuals undergo various changes in their social, mental, physical, and body functional aspects. Workers in the agricultural sector, especially in areas like Takmung Village, frequently engage in activities that require prolonged use of the knees. This can increase the risk of knee osteoarthritis and injuries, especially during actions such as kneeling, squatting, or standing for extended periods while working. As a result, many farmers in Takmung Village experience discomfort and pain in their knees. Therefore, the community service activity aims to identify the characteristics of the elderly and enhance knowledge and understanding related to the prevention and management of ACL injuries and knee osteoarthritis. The community service activity was conducted from June to August 2023 at the Banjar Lepang Meeting Hall in Takmung Village, Klungkung Regency, and was attended by 54 productive elderly individuals. The activities began with planning, permit management, coordination meetings, training preparation, socialization implementation, health examinations, and pre-test and post-test evaluations. Out of the 54 elderly participants, 53 showed increased knowledge through pre-test and post-test assessments, while only one experienced a decrease. The impact of the socialization activities resulted in improved knowledge among the elderly regarding methods to prevent ACL injuries and knee osteoarthritis. They also gained awareness of suitable physical exercises to prevent and alleviate symptoms associated with ACL injuries and knee osteoarthritis conditions.

Abstract

Aging is a natural process that occurs in every individual throughout his life. One aspect that is closely related to aging is a change in physical fitness. Physical fitness is an important factor that affects the quality of life and well-being of the elderly. The growth rate of the elderly population by the year 2030 is estimated to be greater than the age of adolescents and young people by about 2.1 billion, compared to 2 billion worldwide. The goal of the community dedication is to improve the quality of life of the elderly by improving their physical fitness through the exercise of the elders, because exercising can increase muscle strength and flexibility and thus help them to live a healthier and more fit life in their communities. The activity was carried out in the village of Tete B. Ampana Tete was followed by 15 people, along with 5 people. The results of the activity can be described as follows: all the seniors who attended the gym can follow well and walk smoothly, with no obstacles or injuries. There are three elderly people who have arthritis and hearing loss and are so slow to follow instructions, but they can finish the activity well. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the more frequently doing gymnastics with the elderly, the better the older's health.

Abstract

The Darul Huffaz Islamic Boarding School has a problem with piles of rubbish, where up to now the rubbish has only been collected, transported, and thrown to the Pesawaran TPA. Eco-Islamic boarding school-based education is an activity to make Islamic boarding schools environmentally friendly through real action. The aim of this community service (PKM) is to carry out eco-Islamic boarding school-based environmental empowerment at the Darul Huffaz Islamic Boarding School. The PKM partner is the Darul Huufaz Islamic Boarding School with a target of 32 female student volunteers, teachers, and employees. The activities were carried out for five months, from July to November 2023. Environmental empowerment activities carried out were the creation of waste banks in Islamic boarding schools, the use of organic waste into compost, and inorganic waste into eco-bricks. This community service activity is carried out in stages, namely the situational analysis of partner conditions, socialization, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and expansion. Mentoring and training activities resulted in an increase in the knowledge of residents at the Darul Huffaz Islamic Boarding School by 10%, the formation of waste bank peer educators, and a waste management program under the guidance of the Darul Huffaz Islamic Boarding School OSIS through compost and eco-bricks making activities. It is hoped that this PKM activity can become a learning method for developing eco-Islamic boarding school-based education at the Darul Huffaz Islamic Boarding Schools.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a direct infectious disease transmitted through the air caused by Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. TB is a health problem that has existed since 5000 years ago but is still developing today. TB is the 10th disease that is the biggest cause of death throughout the world. In fact, based on the latest WHO data, TB cases in Indonesia are ranked second after India with an estimated 969,000 cases and 144 thousand deaths per year (WHO, 2023). Based on WHO estimates in the 2020 Global TB Report, drug-resistant TB cases in Indonesia are estimated to be 2.4% of new patients seeking treatment/discovered. For old sufferers, according to estimates, there are 13% of drug resistan TB sufferers. With a total of around 24,000 cases or an incidence of 8.8/100,000 population. The aim of community service is to provide understanding to teenagers that pulmonary TB needs to be prevented, especially RO pulmonary TB which is more complicated to treat. Community service activities were held on October 16 2023 at SMAN II Luwuk with 88 students participating. The method used is counseling with lectures and questions and answers. Previously a pre-test was given and after counseling a post-test was carried out. The results of the counseling by comparing the pre-test and post-test showed an increase in knowledge. It is hoped that education about RO TB can be encouraged by health education institutions, the Health Service and other parties, considering the greater danger to public health.
