Abstract

This quantitative study examines the constraints in the primary production of bananas in Davao Region, Philippines. Various studies and climate projections by PAGASA proved the existence of climate change. Climatic variables (i.e. average temperature, rainfall amount, and relative humidity), Panama disease occurrence, and government support dataset are derived from government agencies from 1990-2019. Multiple regression analysis and other statistical tests are used. Most studies imply that there is a negative relationship between banana production to climate variables and panama disease but a positive relationship to government support. Results of this study show that climate variable indicators display a negative significant relationship on the volume of banana production which adheres to past studies while Panama disease and government support indicate an insignificant relationship which contradicts other studies. This study is therefore intended to impart practical knowledge to help farmers to be prepared for the adverse risks of climate change on their crops. It is also expected that this provides policy recommendations for the government to arrive at appropriate policies based upon ground realities.

Abstract

Until 2010, the Indonesian cocoa exports had been dominated by cocoa beans, which led the government to stimulate the processing industry by implementing cocoa export tax policy. This study will investigate the impact of the tax tariff policy on the supply and demand of cocoa beans in Indonesia. The imposed ad valorem tariff of Indonesia cocoa beans will be investigated in order to know whether the domestic market is ready or not to absorb the quantity supply of cocoa beans, when the export demand quantity declines. This study aims to determine the impact of cocoa export trading policy on the competitiveness of cocoa beans as well as the integration of cocoa prices. Moreover, this research will further discuss if the export tax policy has no impact on the integration of domestic and international cocoa markets.

Abstract

This paper explored the relationship of rural-urban migration to the total agricultural output in the Philippines. The researchers wanted to know if there is a relationship between the independent variables: rural-urban migration, average agricultural wage, number of employed people in agriculture, and inflation rate, and the dependent variable, which is agricultural output, and how these explanatory variables affect the dependent variable. Data used are from the years 1988 - 2018. The researchers used a quantitative research design and multiple regression to find out the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The findings of the study answer the purpose of this paper. It has been found that the relationship between rural-urban migration and the total agricultural output of the Philippines has a negative relationship. Other results showed that the number of people employed in agriculture and average agricultural wage have a positive effect on the country’s total agricultural output while inflation rate has a negative effect. Creating more opportunities for people living in rural areas and strengthening the institutional and governance in the agricultural sector can not only lessen the internal migration but also improve the country’s economy.

Abstract

The relationship between Labor Productivity and independent variables, Technology, and Electronic Commerce was examined in this study. Since the start of E-Commerce in the Philippines, it is known to have positive effects on economy-wide establishments that contribute to the growth of the Philippine economy. Furthermore, it served as an opportunity for undergraduates to pursue jobs and improve the employment capacity of the Philippines. Its dynamic capabilities allow Filipino consumers to browse websites with easier and faster access as compared to the primitive way of purchasing in the commerce industry. After using cross-sectional data and Pearson Correlation Coefficient, this study proved that E-Commerce and technology have an implication on labor productivity.

Abstract

The efficiency of the dairy industry in the Philippines is determined by the sector’s productivity in relation to investments, imports, and exports that it is making. The use of Total Factor Productivity (TFP) in this paper is to examine the connection between the dependent variable and independent variables. More so, this research aims to evaluate the efficiency of the dairy industry along with the objective of assessing the impact that investments, imports, and exports have. Quarterly data from 2006 to 2017 helps to obtain results and use for further interpretation using regression analysis. The study shows that investments, imports, and exports do affect the productivity of the dairy industry in the Philippines. It leads to rejecting the null hypothesis in this paper. The research findings may address these issues by giving attention to exports and investments mainly to machineries and other technologies that contribute to dairy operations. The researchers also recommend that to be able to improve productivity, investments, imports, and exports of the dairy industry, the government should provide more funding and assistance to dairy farmers. Abstract

Bitcoin is an open-sourced, decentralized system, despite its intangible characteristic, it is the most prominent digital currency developed by an unknown programmer famously known as Nakamoto in 2008. The aim of this paper is to render evidence whether Bitcoin is a secured platform for investing despite its volatile behavior by verifying whether the Market Capitalization, Trade Volume, Exchange Rate (USD) are critical determinants of Bitcoin price. The research makes use of secondary data from coindesk.com to gather results using Multiple Linear Regression and the Ordinary Least Squares in analyzing the relationship between the variables. Market Capitalization fails to reject the null hypothesis. Trade Volume and Exchange Rate (USD) are variations that can explain 93.87% of Bitcoin price. The results gathered shows that Bitcoin prices are highly volatile because of the volatility of the Independent Variables. Bitcoin as a means of investment is not a viable option of investment for its sudden volatility of high-high risk with a high-high return or loss.

Abstract

The paper is made to research the classic Chinese dish Xiao Long Bao and test if it can work when fused with Indonesian cuisine. This research uses experiments done by giving questionnaires for the respondents to test the quality of the products are good enough and the comparison of each of those products towards each other through various categories. This research is made in the hopes that it can introduce more people towards Indonesian cuisine through the classic Chinese dish and to test the likeability of the dish in different terms such as aroma, taste, texture and appearance. This research is done by creating 4 Indonesian dishes being Soto Ayam Lamongan, Soto Betawi, Sop Ikan Batam and Soto Lamongan and substituting the broth used in the classic Xiao Long Bao with those Indonesian cuisines. Sample data collection is done by using the convinience sampling technique. This research uses the organoleptic test which consists of hedonic test and hedonic quality test which tests human sensories and needs to be answered in 4 categories which are aroma, taste, texture and appearance and involves sending questionnaires for the panelists to give their opinions regarding the fusion cuisine after tasting them. The result shows that the fusion cuisine in this research is valid and reliable while also liked by the different panelists who were given the products in the different categories as seen in the results and discussions through SPSS testing and shows that this dish has good enough quality and be able to help spread the word about Indonesia’s cuisine.
