Abstract

High blood pressure, or hypertension, occurs when blood pressure rises to unhealthy levels. Blood pressure measurements take into account how much blood passes through the blood vessels and the amount of resistance the heart is putting on the blood vessels. Arteries become less elastic, especially in older adults, as the aging process of the body's cells increases resistance. The narrower the arteries, the higher the blood pressure. Over the long term, elevated blood pressure can lead to health problems, including heart disease. This quantitative study, using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design conducted in the working area of Pematang Panggang II Health Center, from April-May 2024. This design was chosen to determine the correlation between the independent variable of the effect of rosella flower decoction, with the dependent variable, namely the decrease in hypertension in the elderly. The study population included all elderly people at Pematang Panggang II Health Center in 2024 with a total of 120 elderly people selected using the purposive sampling technique. purposive sampling and the number of samples in this study was 30 people. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately. Based on the influence test usingWilcoxon Sign Rank It was found that the p value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) showed that there was an effect of giving rosella flower infusion on reducing blood pressure.

Abstract

Umbilical cord infection remains a significant contributor to neonatal morbidity and mortality, particularly in developing countries. Proper cord care is essential to prevent infection and accelerate cord separation. Topical breast milk contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory components that may enhance healing. This quasi-experimental study with a two-group comparison was conducted at a regional hospital involving 60 newborns selected through purposive sampling and divided into topical breast milk and dry open care groups. Data were analyzed using independent t-test with a significance level of p<0.05. The mean cord separation time in the topical breast milk group was 5.13±0.83 days, compared to 6.26±0.70 days in the dry open group, with a statistically significant difference (p<0.001) and a very large effect size (Cohen’s d=1.47). Topical breast milk is more effective in accelerating umbilical cord separation than dry open care and can be recommended as a simple, safe, and cost-effective evidence-based practice in neonatal care.

Abstract

The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding has not yet reached the expected target, despite its well-established benefits for maternal and infant health. Socio-cultural factors, particularly cultural beliefs, are considered important determinants influencing breastfeeding practices among postpartum mothers. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach to analyze the relationship between cultural beliefs and exclusive breastfeeding practices. The research was conducted at PMB Ferawati from October to November 2025, involving 50 postpartum mothers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation sheets and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents had negative cultural beliefs (60%) and did not practice exclusive breastfeeding (56%). Among mothers with positive cultural beliefs, 75% practiced exclusive breastfeeding, whereas only 23.3% of mothers with negative cultural beliefs did so. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between cultural beliefs and exclusive breastfeeding (p-value = 0.001). Cultural beliefs are a significant determinant of exclusive breastfeeding practices among postpartum mothers. These findings highlight the importance of culturally sensitive health promotion interventions to improve exclusive breastfeeding coverage sustainably.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible condition characterized by declining kidney function, which disrupts fluid balance and reduces patients’ quality of life. CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis often experience excessive thirst due to fluid intake restrictions, which can cause discomfort and increase the risk of treatment non-adherence. This study aims to analyze nursing practices involving the innovative intervention of administering slimber ice to reduce thirst in CKD patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Iche Abdoel Moeis General Hospital in Samarinda. The method used was a case study with a descriptive approach involving one CKD patient undergoing hemodialysis. Thirst levels were measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) before and after the intervention. Slimber ice was administered for two consecutive days, with each session lasting 10 minutes and consisting of 6 ice cubes (5 ml per cube). The results showed that the thirst level before the intervention was in the moderate category (VAS 6 and 5), then decreased to the mild category (VAS 4 and 3) after the intervention, with an average decrease of 2 points. This intervention works by stimulating cold receptors and increasing oral cavity moisture, which helps reduce the perception of thirst. In conclusion, Slimber Ice is effective as a nonpharmacological therapy for reducing thirst, improving comfort, and supporting adherence to fluid restrictions in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the main causes of death in women, especially in developing countries. It is important to take preventive measures early on in cervical cancer because adolescence is a period of long-term health knowledge, attitudes, and behavior formation. Without early education, prevention efforts are often delayed, namely increasing knowledge and forming positive attitudes among adolescents. This study aims to explore the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of female students at SMAN 1 Prabumulih City regarding cervical cancer prevention efforts. The study applied a quantitative design with a descriptive analytical approach. The population of female students at SMAN 1 Prabumulih City amounted to 213 respondents and a purposive sampling sample of 138 people. Data were obtained through questionnaires, analyzed univariately and bivariately using Chi-Square tests. The findings of this study indicate that the majority of respondents have a level of knowledge that is classified as sufficient to good, and attitudes tend to be positive towards cervical cancer prevention efforts. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between female students' knowledge and attitudes in preventing cervical cancer, with a p-value of 0.00 and a Contingency Coefficient (CC) value of 0.609, indicating a strong relationship. Although the Contingency Coefficient only assesses strength without clearly indicating direction, in the context of health knowledge and attitudes, it suggests that the better students' understanding (e.g., regarding risk factors, symptoms, and the HPV vaccine), the more favorable their attitudes toward preventive measures (e.g., willingness to be screened or vaccinated). There is a significant relationship between students' knowledge and attitudes toward cervical cancer prevention efforts. The better their knowledge, the more positive their attitudes.

Abstract

Pentavalent immunization is an important program in reducing infant morbidity and mortality, but immunization coverage is still not optimal, which is thought to be influenced by maternal knowledge and education factors. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and education levels and compliance with pentavalent immunization in infants aged 0–11 months. The research method used an analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach conducted at the Tanjung Agung Community Health Center UPTD in April 2026 with a sample of 141 mothers selected through formula calculations and inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of 5%. The results of the study showed that most mothers were non-compliant in providing immunizations (56%), had low knowledge (63.1%), and low education (52.5%). There was a significant relationship between knowledge and compliance (p = 0.002) and between education and compliance (p = 0.000) where mothers with higher knowledge and education tended to be more compliant in providing pentavalent immunization. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and education levels and compliance with pentavalent immunization in infants. It is recommended that community health centers (Puskesmas) provide education to mothers about the importance of pentavalent immunization in infants aged 0-11 months.

Abstract

Deep neck space abscess are serious bacterial infections involving cervical fascial spaces and may lead to life-threatening complications. Recent evidence suggests that, despite antibiotic availability, the incidence of these infections remains significant and may be increasing, particularly due to odontogenic sources. We report a case of a 65-year-old male presenting with progressive neck swelling originating from untreated dental infection. Clinical examination and contrast-enhanced CT scan revealed multiple deep neck space infections involving bilateral submandibular, submental, left parapharyngeal, and supraclavicular spaces. Laboratory findings showed leukocytosis and hypoalbuminemia. The patient was managed with broad-spectrum intravenous antibiotics and surgical drainage. Odontogenic infection remains the leading cause of deep neck space abscess in adults. Multispace involvement is associated with higher risk of complications, including airway obstruction, sepsis, and mediastinitis. Notably, elderly patients may present with minimal systemic symptoms despite extensive infection, highlighting the importance of imaging. Epidemiological data from global and Indonesian studies indicate that deep neck space abscess continue to occur frequently, with odontogenic infections as the primary source. Multiple deep neck space abscess can present insidiously in elderly patients. Early diagnosis using CT imaging and prompt management with antibiotics and surgical drainage are essential. Prevention should focus on improving oral hygiene and controlling underlying comorbidities.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is an essential intervention for improving infant health and development. However, exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia remains below national targets and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) standards. This quantitative descriptive-analytical study used a cross-sectional approach involving 80 breastfeeding mothers with infants aged 0–6 months at PMB Irma Iryani, in February 2025. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling – Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The coefficient of determination (R²) was 83.7%. Formula milk promotion had the most dominant direct influence (21.42%), followed by maternal attitudes (12.77%) and the role of health workers (7.05%). All hypotheses were accepted (T-statistic > 1.96; p < 0.05). Formula milk promotion, the role of health workers, and maternal attitudes significantly influence exclusive breastfeeding practices. Strengthening lactation education and stricter monitoring of formula milk promotion in health facilities are recommended.

Abstract

Pregnancy anemia impacts the risk of postpartum hemorrhage, low birth weight (LBW), and stunting. Based on WHO data, the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women globally is 40-44% in 2024. In the Ngluwar Community Health Center working area, the prevalence of anemia decreased from 17.6% in 2023 to 11.5% in 2024, but by September 2025 it had increased to 12.5%. The purpose of this study was to identify the dominant factors associated with the incidence of anemia seen from sociodemographic factors and characteristics of pregnant women with anemia. This study used a quantitative approach with an observational analytical design with a sample of 54 pregnant women in the first trimester by random sampling. This research instrument used a questionnaire and a KIA book. The results of the study showed that most pregnant women who experienced anemia were aged 20-35 years, multiparous, had income below the minimum wage, had secondary education, and were unemployed. The most dominant factor influencing anemia was age. It is recommended that pregnant women receive sufficient education about anemia.
