Abstract

According to Law Number 25 of 2009, good public service is essential for effective governance and should inspire a sense of purpose among researchers, policymakers, and managers committed to improving government functions. However, during implementation, various complaints regarding BPJS of Employment services are still being reported. An investigation by the Indonesian Ombudsman (Ombudsman) found maladministration in BPJS of Employment services, including in Makassar City, such as long wait times, difficulties in the claims process, and a lack of clear information for participants. This condition is also reflected in customer reviews via Google Reviews, which indicate a low level of public satisfaction with BPJS of Employment services in Makassar. One factor suspected of influencing service quality is employee intrinsic motivation, as strong motivation is expected to improve employee performance. This study aims to determine the relationship between intrinsic motivation and employee performance at the BPJS of Employment Office in Makassar City. This research is a quantitative study employing a cross-sectional approach, focusing on all 30 employees at the BPJS of Employment Office in Makassar City. The entire population was sampled using a total sampling technique. Data collection involved questionnaires, and analysis was conducted using a chi-square test at α = 0.05 to determine relationships between variables. The analysis indicated no significant relationship between intrinsic motivation and employee performance at the Makassar City BPJS of Employment Office (p-value = 0.193 > α = 0.05). These findings suggest that enhancing intrinsic motivation alone may not directly improve performance, highlighting the need for comprehensive strategies to boost service quality and public satisfaction. This study recommends that the Makassar City BPJS of Employment Office continue to improve service quality through more informative, responsive, and participant-focused communication. Such efforts can help build trust and motivate stakeholders to work together to minimize public complaints about the services provided.

Abstract

Low back pain is a recurring ergonomic issue in occupational health and safety implementation, resulting in financial losses due to reduced worker capacity and productivity. If low back pain that occurs in nurses is not adequately handled, it will not only cause prolonged pain and discomfort, but can also lead to frustration and lifelong disability. This can negatively impact the quality of life for nurses themselves. If low back pain suffered by nurses during transfers also impacts the quality of hospital services in general. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors associated with workload, length of service, and work position that contribute to complaints of low back pain among nurses. This study employed a quantitative research method, utilizing an analytical survey approach, and employed a cross-sectional study design. The sampling technique used in this study was total sampling. The population in this study consisted of all nurses at Dr. Lapalaloi Regional Hospital, Maros Regency, totaling 39 nurses. Data were obtained using a questionnaire. The analytical methods employed were univariate and bivariate analyses, utilizing the chi-square test. The results of the study showed that there was no relationship between work period (p-value = 0.605> 0.05%) and low back pain complaints, there was a significant relationship between work position (p-value = 0.032<0.05%) and workload (p-value = 0.036<0.05%) with low back pain complaints in nurses at Dr. Lapalaloi Regional General Hospital, Maros Regency. The suggestion in this study is that workers should pay more attention to their health and working conditions to avoid health problems, including complaints of lower back pain.

Abstract

Unsafe acts are behaviors of individuals in the workplace that have the potential to cause accidents, both to themselves and others. This type of behavior significantly increases the likelihood of dangerous incidents that can result in serious injury and even death. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence unsafe behavior in workers. The method used is a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The sample was taken by saturation, involving the entire population of 42 workers. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that the variables of OHS training, supervision, knowledge, and tenure had no significant effect on unsafe acts (p> 0.05). In contrast, job fatigue significantly affects unsafe behavior (p ≤ 0.05). Based on these results, companies are expected to develop clear job descriptions aligned with worker competencies and conduct workload analyses to prevent fatigue and reduce the risk of unsafe acts.

Abstract

Nurses comprise the largest number of healthcare workers in hospitals and play a crucial role in maintaining service quality, particularly in inpatient wards, which involve high levels of patient interaction. Stella Maris Hospital Makassar employs 134 inpatient nurses, but only a small proportion have received formal training from the hospital. Despite this, there are efforts to share knowledge internally among nurses. This study aims to clarify how knowledge management influences nurse performance in inpatient wards at Stella Maris Hospital, providing insights to improve care quality. This study used a quantitative, cross-sectional design. Purposive sampling was used, and the sample size was determined using the Slovin formula, resulting in 100 respondents, all inpatient nurses. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The results showed no relationship between knowledge management dimensions and nurse performance, including socialization (p = 0.086), externalization (p = 0.361), combination (p = 0.209), and internalization (p = 0.279). While these findings may seem conclusive, they highlight the importance of further exploration. Recognizing the complexity of nurse performance can motivate professionals to consider additional factors influencing outcomes in the inpatient ward of Stella Maris Hospital, Makassar. Based on the study's findings, the hospital is encouraged to enhance its knowledge management system by strengthening a culture of information sharing, documenting work experiences, and providing training. These steps can empower nurses to better manage and apply their knowledge, ultimately improving the quality of nursing care and inspiring continuous improvement.

Abstract

Bullying is an aggressive act carried out repeatedly against individuals perceived as weaker or more vulnerable by individuals or groups with greater power. This study aims to explore in-depth bullying behavior based on gender and sexual orientation among adolescents and its implications for mental health at SMP Negeri 4 Makassar. This research underscores the importance of understanding these dynamics, encouraging educators and professionals to recognize their role in fostering safer environments. The study uses a qualitative, phenomenological approach to understand individual experiences of a particular phenomenon. Through this approach, researchers describe informants' experiences and perceptions regarding bullying behavior. Data collection was conducted through observation and in-depth interviews with 9 informants at SMP Negeri 4 Makassar in March. The results show that the impact of bullying experienced by students at SMP Negeri 4 Makassar is relatively mild, but still has an impact on students' psychological condition and social comfort. The form and dynamics of bullying in adolescents were found to differ by gender, although both boys and girls can act as perpetrators or victims of bullying. In addition, stigma and a lack of understanding regarding sexual orientation also contribute to the occurrence of bullying behavior in the school environment. Based on the research findings, it is recommended that schools increase student education and awareness regarding bullying and provide a more comprehensive understanding of gender and sexual orientation to create a safe, inclusive school environment that supports adolescent mental health.

Abstract

The trend of unhealthy food consumption, such as fast food, raises important concerns regarding changing eating habits. The prevalence of fast food consumption among students may present various health risks. This study seeks to explore the factors influencing fast food consumption patterns among students at the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Muslim Indonesia, in 2025. Utilizing a quantitative research methodology with a cross-sectional study approach, the study involved a sample of 253 participants drawn from a total population of 692, with an accidental sampling technique employed for participant selection. Data was gathered through a questionnaire, and analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The statistical analysis yielded significant findings: a relationship between knowledge (p = 0.000) and ease of access (p = 0.001) with fast food consumption patterns. In contrast, no significant relationship was identified between parental income and fast food consumption (p = 0.396). In light of these findings, it may be beneficial for the faculty to consider implementing periodic educational campaigns to enhance students' awareness of healthy eating practices. Engaging students through popular media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok could be an effective strategy to promote healthier eating habits.
