Abstract

Groundwater is widely used in Indonesia because it is readily available and generally considered of better quality. Groundwater is used for various purposes, such as household, agricultural, and industrial needs. This study aims to determine the quality of drilled well water based on the iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) metal content consumed by residents of Polewali Village, South Baebunta District, North Luwu Regency. This is an observational study with a descriptive approach. The study population consisted of six drilled wells that served as water sources for the community. The results showed that of the six drilled wells examined, three contained no Fe, while the other three contained Fe at varying concentrations. Meanwhile, Mn was detected in all well water samples from the drilled wells. These findings indicate that the quality of drilled well water in Polewali Village varies between locations, with Fe content undetectable in some locations but relatively high in others, and Mn content found in all samples. Therefore, regular water quality monitoring and well water treatment are necessary, especially in locations where metal levels exceed quality standards, to ensure community water safety.

Abstract

Hypertension is a significant health problem in the world due to its high prevalence rate and is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The increased risk of hypertension is due to a lack of knowledge in hypertension management, causing sufferers to come to health facilities when there are complaints or even when the condition is already severe, such as difficulty in lowering blood pressure or complications such as stroke and kidney failure. This study aims to determine the effect of health promotion behavior "PATUH" using leaflets on motivation and efforts to control hypertension. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pretest-posttest design. The population in this study was 150 people; the sample size, calculated using the Slovin formula, was 109, selected through random sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires, and the Wilcoxon test was used. According to the Wilcoxon test results, with a sig. value of 0.000, indicating a difference before and after the provision of leaflet media education on knowledge, while the Wilcoxon test was used with a significance level. A value of 0.000 indicates a difference before and after the provision of leaflet media education on knowledge, while the Wilcoxon test is significant. A value of 0.000 indicates a difference before and after the provision of leaflet media education on knowledge, and a value of 0.001 shows a difference before and after the provision of leaflet media education on knowledge of respondents at the Kalabbirang Community Health Center, Pangkep Regency, in 2025. The conclusion is that there is a difference before and after the provision of leaflet media education on behavior and motivation.

Abstract

Health is an important aspect of human life, and a balanced diet is essential to achieving it. Currently, the increasing consumption of fast food has become a phenomenon that negatively impacts health, including women's menstrual cycles. This study aims to determine the factors associated with menstrual cycle disorders in female students of the Faculty of Public Health, Muslim University of Indonesia, in 2025. This study uses a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The population in this study comprised 171 female students, and a sample of 120 was selected using a random sampling technique based on the Slovin Formula. Data were collected through questionnaires and observations and then analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that the frequency of fast food consumption (p = 0.004; p < 0.05) and stress (p = 0.002; p < 0.05) were factors associated with menstrual cycle disorders. Physical activity (p = 0.876; p > 0.05) was not a factor associated with menstrual cycle disorders. It is hoped that future researchers will reconsider factors that may be related to menstrual disorders and add other variables that have not been studied (e.g., sleep, caffeine consumption, hormonal factors) to refine this research further and yield more in-depth, optimal results.

Abstract

Nurses in the Emergency Room and inpatient units of Daya Hospital, Makassar City, have a high workload and face a stressful work environment. This condition can trigger work stress, impacting the performance and quality of nursing services. Therefore, a study was conducted to determine whether 25 nurses experienced excessive workload, while the majority, namely 55 nurses, complained of excessive workload. This workload often leaves them feeling tired, mainly due to the demands of providing maximum patient care, which reduces their rest time. This study used a quantitative, analytical survey method and a cross-sectional design. The study population comprised all nurses working in the Emergency Room and inpatient units, totaling 25 and 77, respectively. Using a total sampling technique, all 102 nurses were selected as study respondents. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results showed that the workload variable was significantly related to nurses' work stress levels (p = 0.014), and the physical work environment was also significantly related to work stress (p = 0.000). These results confirm that high workloads and an unfavorable physical work environment significantly increase job stress. Improved workload management, a better physical work environment, and organizational support are needed to reduce job stress among nurses at Daya Regional Hospital in Makassar City.

Abstract

Smoking habits at the Makassar Class I Penitentiary (Lapas) remain a challenge to implementing the Smoke-Free Area (KTR) policy. This condition indicates the need for effective communication strategies from correctional officers to support the control of inmates' smoking behavior. This study aims to examine the role and communication strategies of correctional officers in controlling inmates' smoking behavior in Makassar Class I Penitentiary. This study employed a qualitative, exploratory design and was conducted in February–March 2026. The research informants consisted of four correctional officers, six inmates, and one health worker, all purposively selected. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that correctional officers served as educators, facilitators, and role models in implementing guidance. The communication strategies implemented included persuasive interpersonal communication, group communication, and simple educational media. This strategy was perceived as being able to increase inmates' awareness to reduce smoking habits; however, behavioral changes have not been optimal due to obstacles such as weak enforcement of the Smoke-Free Area policy and the circulation of illegal cigarettes within the prison. This study concludes that effective control of smoking behavior requires a sustainable communication strategy, strengthened implementation of Smoke-Free Area policies, and a conducive environment.

Abstract

Food safety of school snacks is an important issue because elementary school children are considered a vulnerable group to exposure to hazardous chemical substances. Emphasizing this can help school administrators, health officials, and policymakers feel a shared responsibility to protect students' health and motivate action. The results showed that 30% of dry snacks tested positive for Methanyl Yellow, while 30% of wet snacks tested positive for formaldehyde. Overall, 60% of the snacks contained at least one hazardous substance and were categorized as unsafe, whereas only 40% were classified as safe. This highlights the need for combined efforts from all stakeholders to reduce health risks and improve snack safety. In conclusion, most school snacks at SDN Rappokalling did not meet food safety standards and may pose health risks to students. Recognizing this, school administrators, food vendors, and policymakers can feel empowered to implement effective supervision, education, and policy measures to improve safety.

Abstract

Maternal knowledge of nutrition and complementary feeding practices plays an essential role in supporting appropriate infant feeding. However, many mothers still lack adequate understanding of recommended complementary feeding (MP-ASI), which may affect infant development, particularly gross and fine motor skills that develop rapidly during the first year of life. This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal knowledge and complementary feeding practices with infant motor development among infants aged 6–12 months in the working area of the Puskesmas Kassi-Kassi. This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design. A total of 134 mothers with infants aged 6–12 months were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a maternal knowledge questionnaire on MP-ASI, a complementary feeding practices questionnaire, and the Developmental Pre-Screening Questionnaire (KPSP) to assess gross and fine motor development. The results showed no significant association between maternal knowledge and infant motor development, both fine and gross motor skills (p = 1.000). Similarly, complementary feeding practices were not significantly associated with fine motor development (p = 0.479) or gross motor development (p = 0.671). In conclusion, maternal knowledge and complementary feeding practices were not identified as determining factors for motor development in this study. These findings suggest that infant motor development may be more strongly influenced by other factors, such as stimulation, caregiving environment, and overall child health. Therefore, health education programs should emphasize not only nutritional knowledge but also parental engagement and stimulation strategies to support optimal motor development.

Abstract

River tubing tourist attractions are a developing destination with tourism potential. However, this service is separate from a health risk prevention promotion service. Initial studies show that the absence of health information services in tourism services causes limitations in tour guides in developing appropriate health information needed by tourists. This study aimed to analyze changes in tour guide knowledge related to the importance of implementing health risk prevention and accident risks in tourist attractions. The type of research used is quantitative research with a case study approach. Informants were selected based on the criteria of being river tubing tour guides, several tour guide officers in river tubing, namely 5 informants. The results of the taxonomic analysis showed an increase in tour guide knowledge related to the prevention of health risks and accident risks that tourism activities can cause. These findings have practical implications, as they suggest that tour guides, in carrying out their duties, can also provide health education to tourists to prevent health risks and accidents, thereby enhancing the overall tourism experience.

Abstract

Weight gain is an important indicator of infant growth and health, influenced by adequate nutrition and parenting practices. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors for growth disorders among infants aged 7–12 months in the working area of Barabaraya Community Health Center. This analytical observational study used a case-control design. The sample consisted of 30 cases and 30 controls selected through purposive sampling with matching based on infant gender. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires on maternal characteristics, breastfeeding patterns, parenting styles (PSDQ), and 1x24-hour food recall to assess dietary intake. The study was conducted from August to September 2023. The results showed that antenatal care (ANC) (OR=12.429; 95% CI=1.461–105.737), permissive parenting style (OR=1.313; 95% CI=0.472–3.653), protein intake (OR=1.306), and carbohydrate intake (OR=1.529; 95% CI=0.536–4.361) increased the risk of infant growth disorders, although the associations were not statistically significant. Meanwhile, parity (OR=0.868; 95% CI=0.306–2.461), democratic parenting style (OR=0.571; 95% CI=0.201–1.624), authoritarian parenting style (OR=0.550; 95% CI=0.157–1.931), breastfeeding patterns (OR=0.669; 95% CI=0.242–1.852), energy intake (OR=0.048; 95% CI=0.010–0.238), and fat intake (OR=0.400; 95% CI=0.118–1.360) acted as protective factors, although no significant relationships were found. This study concludes that ANC, permissive parenting style, and protein and carbohydrate intake are risk factors for infant growth disorders.
