Abstract

Job stress is one of the occupational health problems frequently experienced by healthcare workers, particularly nurses, and can impact performance, service quality, and patient safety. Hospitals should actively manage these factors to foster a supportive environment. Various factors related to work conditions are known to influence nurses' work stress levels. This study aims to determine the factors associated with work stress in nurses in the inpatient ward of Ibnu Sina Hospital (YW-UMI), Makassar. This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional study design. The study population was all nurses working in the inpatient ward of Ibnu Sina Hospital (YW-UMI), Makassar. The study sample consisted of 86 people selected using a total sampling technique. Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results showed that workload (p = 0.002), work fatigue (p = 0.000), physical work environment (p = 0.000), and interpersonal communication (p = 0.000) were significantly associated with work stress among nurses in the inpatient ward of Ibnu Sina Hospital (YW-UMI), Makassar. This study concluded that workload, work fatigue, physical work environment, and interpersonal communication are factors associated with work stress among nurses. Therefore, hospitals need to regularly manage workload, control work fatigue, provide a comfortable work environment, and improve interpersonal communication to reduce the risk of work stress among nurses.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global health problem with 10.7 million new cases and 1.23 million deaths in 2024, further compounded by the emergence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Existing analyses of MDR-TB risk factors remain limited to the Odds Ratio (OR), which is unable to quantify the magnitude of risk factor contributions at the population level. This study aimed to estimate the Population Attributable Risk Percent (PAR%) and Etiologic Fraction (EF) of risk factors for MDR-TB incidence at Makassar City Regional General Hospital (RSUD Kota Makassar) in 2024. This study is a secondary data analysis based on a publication by Janna et al. (2025), with a sample of 111 TB patients (37 MDR-TB cases and 74 non-MDR-TB controls). PAR% was calculated using Levin's formula [Pₑ(OR−1) / Pₑ(OR−1)+1] × 100% and EF using the formula [(OR−1)/OR] × 100%, focusing on variables that were statistically significant (p < 0.05) with OR > 1. Of the seven variables analyzed, three were statistically significant, namely, side effects of anti-tuberculosis drugs (ATD) with PAR% 93.8% and EF 97.6%; history of previous TB treatment with PAR% 66.3% and EF 90.1%; and undernutritional status (BMI < 18.5 kg/m²) with PAR% 38.2% and EF 61.5%. Management of ATD side effects represents the primary intervention priority, with the potential to prevent 93.8% of MDR-TB cases at RSUD Kota Makassar.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common complaints experienced by adolescent girls and can impact daily activities, concentration in school, and quality of life. Various non-pharmacological efforts have been developed to address dysmenorrhea, one of which is through a combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation, which is known to provide a relaxing effect, reduce anxiety, and help reduce uterine muscle spasms. The mechanisms by which aromatherapy and relaxation techniques exert their effects involve modulation of the nervous system and reduced levels of stress-related hormones, which can contribute to decreased uterine contractions and reduced pain perception. This study aims to determine the effect of administering a combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation on the intensity of dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study sample consisted of 33 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The intensity of dysmenorrhea was measured using a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results showed a decrease in the intensity of dysmenorrhea after administering a combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation. Before the intervention, the majority of respondents experienced moderate pain, while after the intervention, most respondents experienced mild pain, and some respondents no longer felt pain. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value <0.05, indicating a significant effect of the combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation on reducing dysmenorrhea intensity in adolescent girls. This study concluded that the combination of lemon essential aromatherapy and Benson relaxation was effective in reducing dysmenorrhea intensity in adolescent girls. Understanding the underlying mechanisms can help healthcare professionals better appreciate the potential benefits and optimize the implementation of this non-pharmacological approach.
