The data of this content analysis were collected by purposively choosing thirty articles published in the SINTA 3, SINTA 2, and SINTA 1 journals published in Indonesia in the last two years. This research, conducted from January to July 2023, used the content analysis method. To process and analyze the data, NVivo 14 was used. The thirty articles were imported into NVivo 14 and coded inductively to get the themes needed according to the objective of this research. To get the research trustworthiness, the Kappa statistical reliability test in NVivo 14 was used. The results of the Kappa statistical reliability test showed that the value of the reliability agreement level of data was > 0.75, which proved that it was categorized as excellent. The result of this research is The thirty articles still contain English errors, which make the meaning of the sentences and ideas in the articles difficult to comprehend. The SINTA-indexed articles should be properly reviewed in terms of both their content and their English usage.

Abstract

Within the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context of higher education, there is a discernible emphasis on academic writing, often overshadowing the realm of creative writing. Nevertheless, creative writing remains a prevalent and integral component of EFL education. This study endeavors to scrutinize the perceptions of EFL students regarding creative writing and elucidate the potential benefits derived from its practice. Employing a qualitative approach, the research conducted in-depth interviews as its primary mode of data collection, engaging six students enrolled in an English Education Study Program in Indonesia. These students had actively chosen to participate in an elective course centered on literary works. The study's findings revealed nuanced perspectives among students, highlighting the intricacies associated with creative writing. Students perceive creative writing as intriguing, underscoring the necessity for its inclusion in higher education. Simultaneously, they acknowledge its potential difficulty and emphasize the importance of clarity in its instructional delivery. Furthermore, the research discerned that creative writing serves as a valuable tool for emotional expression, a conduit for the development of creativity and imagination, and a means to refine writing and language skills. The implications of these findings extend beyond the conventional realm of language mastery, emphasizing the multifaceted advantages that creative writing offers in an educational context. Consequently, educators in higher education are urged to deliberate and meticulously plan the incorporation of language in creative writing classes or activities. Recognizing and leveraging the broader educational benefits of creative writing can enhance the pedagogical approach, fostering a more comprehensive and enriching learning experience for EFL students.

Abstract

English-subtitled videos are a popular and accessible form of multimedia that can enhance language learning by providing authentic input and scaffolding comprehension. Therefore, This study aims to assess the effectiveness of English-subtitled videos as a learning tool for enhancing speaking, listening, and vocabulary skills among language learners. A total of 87 eligible studies were included in the analysis. The results of our analysis, conducted using JASP software simulation, indicate a statistically significant impact of English-subtitled videos on language learning, accounting for 59% of the variance, placing it in the Moderate category of significance. Specifically, the effect size values for speaking, listening, and vocabulary were 0.64, 0.59, and 0.55, respectively, highlighting their positive influence. Furthermore, the present research revealed that studies published in 2022 exhibited the highest effect size, with an estimated value of 0.771, underscoring the growing relevance of this instructional approach in recent years. Additionally, when considering the number of participants, studies with fewer than 40 participants demonstrated the highest effect, with an estimated value of 0.534. This suggests that English-subtitled videos are particularly well-suited for improving speaking skills, especially in smaller sample sizes. These findings offer valuable insights for educators and learners seeking effective multimedia tools to develop language proficiency.
