Abstract

Football broadcasts are a spectacle that is culturally associated with men. However, there are quite a number of women who are fans of football broadcasts. This research aims to understand the driving factors behind the culture of women watching football broadcasts, the motivations of women joining football fan clubs, and to identify the identity desired by female football fans. This study is qualitative research using observation and interviews. The results show that factors such as family, social environment, and elements within football broadcasts itself, such as players, costumes, and accessories, contribute to the emergence of the culture of women watching football. The motivation for women to join football fan clubs is based on interest in the clubs, influenced and supported by their family, as well as social environment, and a distinguishing factor from women in general. The identity desired by female members in football fan clubs is a manifest identity or a real identity. Keywords: Football fans women, Masculinity, Motivation, Identity,

Abstract

This study aims to formulate a synergistic village development model that integrates three key elements infrastructure development, community empowerment, and governance capacity-building as a comprehensive approach to achieving sustainable village development. Academically, this study is significant because it offers an integrative perspective on village development, which has often been approached in a fragmented or sectoral manner. Practically, the research provides relevant guidance for village governments and development stakeholders in designing more effective development strategies. The study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review by examining policy documents, previous research findings, and academic literature related to village development and community capacity strengthening. The findings indicate that the success of village development is largely determined by the interconnection among the three elements: infrastructure must support the enhancement of local capacities; empowerment initiatives should strengthen economic and social independence; and governance capacity-building is needed to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with local cultural values. This research contributes to filling gaps in the existing literature by proposing an integrative development model that is more holistic and participatory. Practically, the model can serve as a strategic reference for village governments in formulating sustainable development policies.

Abstract

Journalists often observe Indonesia’s elections at close range in real time: gathering data, verifying facts, writing, and publishing accounts of the process. Yet research on journalists’ perceptions of elections remains limited and is usually framed through institutional or media-company perspectives. This study explores how journalists perceived the 2024 general election. Using a phenomenological design, it captured meanings drawn from reporters’ lived experiences of covering the election. Data were generated through in-depth interviews and thematic interpretation of their narratives. Informants were selected purposively: six political reporters in Mataram City from six different media outlets. Findings show a tendency toward negative perceptions of key stages, including presidential–vice presidential nominations, voter-list verification, the cooling-off period, and vote recapitulation. Journalists described the process as still centralized, viewed candidate selection as an economic contest rather than an ideas-driven one, and characterized the cooling-off period as chaotic. The study’s novelty lies in centering local journalists’ individual experiences across nearly all election stages, contrasting with prior work that emphasizes news content, normative journalistic roles, or media–elite relations.

Abstract

Studies of deliberative democracy in Indonesia have yet to comprehensively investigate the influence of leadership on the quality of deliberation and its subsequent impact on political legitimacy. This gap creates a disjunction between normative ideals and the empirical realities of post-Reform political practices. This article analyzes the role of deliberative leadership in bolstering political legitimacy by operationalizing Jürgen Habermas's theoretical framework-communicative rationality, the public sphere, and communicative power-into empirically assessable indicators. Employing a rigorous qualitative methodology, this study undertakes a systematic review of academic publications, policy reports, and institutional documents published between 2015 and 2024. Data are analyzed using descriptive-analytical techniques informed by a deliberative systems perspective. The findings indicate that, notwithstanding the expansion of participatory mechanisms in the post-Reform era, deliberative practices in Indonesia remain largely procedural and symbolic. Institutional arenas such as Musrenbang, citizen forums, and digital public spaces exhibit deliberative potential but are constrained by oligarchic dominance, structural inequality, a weak legal culture, and institutional cooptation. The primary contribution of this article is the formulation of four operational indicators of deliberative leadership-participatory inclusiveness, quality of argumentation, transparency of policy reasoning, and institutional responsiveness-that advance deliberative democracy scholarship and provide an evaluative framework for strengthening political legitimacy and substantive democracy in Indonesia.
