Main issue of this commuity service is Motivating Students. Its objective was Increasing Vocabulary of English Language. Its specific target is SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Palu has students who have more vocabulary so that they can easily understand and express sentences of the EFL (English as a Foreign Language). They can be global students if they can increase vocabulary to express the internatonal language. Commuicative method was used to reach the objective. Formerly they were shy and unconfident in expressing the language vocabulary, but after being motivated to increase the global language vocabulary they then were confident to practice it by interacting with the community service team and have spirits better better than before to increase the vocabulary of English so that they can express the lingua franca words. The team motivated them to increase their English vocabulary practically and accompanied them to apply the practical ways of increasing the EFL vocabulary so that they have been able to express its words. They can be motivated to increase the vocabulary by telling them status and significances of English in Indonesia.Keywords: Motivating, Increasing, English, Language, Vocabulary

Pengabdian ini dalam bentuk pelatihan tentang penggunaan chatbot Artificial Intelligence (AI) dalam meningkatkan kosa kata peserta didik di SMPN 9 Palu. Tujuan pelatihan ini adalah menumbuhkan dan mengembangkan minat dan kreativitaspeserta pelatihan dalam berbahasa Inggris dengan memperkaya kosa kata bahasa Inggris; menghadirkan mediapembelajaran berbasis ICT (Information Communication Technology) ke dalamkelas yaitu aplikasi chatbotyang dapat digunakan untuk mengirim pesan digitalberbahasaInggris.Tujuankegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan kosa kata peserta untuk dapat berkomunikasiyang baik dalam bahasa Inggris;memberipenjelasansecaraprosedural penggunaan aplikasi chatbot AI mengenai pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggrissertabagaimanamempraktikkannyamelalui aplikasi android;memfasilitasi peserta dengan belajar secara mandiri.Lebihlanjut,kegiatan ini juga mengasah keterampilan peserta untukmembuat dan menyampaikan gagasan dalam berkomunikasi secara tertulis dalam berbahasa Inggris. Kegiatan ini dilakukan melalui metode ceramah dan demonstrasi. Kemudian dilanjutkandenganpraktiklangsung(handsonpractice).Metodedemonstrasidancontohlebihbanyakmelibatkanpenguraiandancara memperagakan sesuatu melalui contoh-contoh atau dengan kata lain learning bydoingataulearningbypracticeyangmenekankanpadabelajarsambilpraktik,jadibukanhanyasekadarteori.Jadi,pesertapelatihandiberikesempatanuntukmempraktikkan dalam menggunakanchatbot AI.Selainitu,pesertadidikmembuat suatu tulisan pendek untuk percakapan bahasa Inggris dengandibantuolehtimpengabdidanmahasiswayang terlibatdalam kegiatanini. Hasil pelatihan ini menunjukkan bahwa semua peserta antusias, senang, dan termotivasi karena aplikasi ini masih asing bagi peserta. Peserta juga telah mengetahui penggunaan aplikasi ini, sehingga secara tidak langsung dapat belajar mandiri kapan dan dimanapun peserta berada. This public service was in the form of training on the use of Chatbot of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in improving the vocabulary of students at SMPN 9 Palu. This objective is to foster and develop interest and training of participants in English; bringing ICT-based learning media (Information Communication Technology) into the classroom, namely a chatbot application that can be used to send digital messages in English. The purpose of this activity is to improve the participants' words to be able to communicate well in English; provide a procedural explanation of the use of the AI chatbot application regarding the use of technology in learning English and how to practice it through the android application; facilitate participants to learn independently. Furthermore, this activity also sharpens the skills of the participants to create and convey ideas in written communication in English.This activity was carried out through lecture and demonstration methods. Then proceed with direct practice (hands on practice). Demonstration and example methods involve more on parsing and how to demonstrate something through examples or in other words learning by doing or learning by practice which emphasizes learning while practicing, so it's not just a theory. So, trainees were given the opportunity to practice using AI chatbots. In addition, students made a short writing for English conversation with the help of the public service team and students who were involved in this public activity. The results of this training showed that all participants were enthusiastic, happy, and motivated because this application was still unfamiliar to the participants. Participants also have known how to use this application, so they could indirectly learn independently whenever and wherever they are. Hasil analisis dan hasil interview secara informal kepada mahasiswa Program Studi Sosiologi Fisip serta pengalaman pengabdi yang juga sebagai pengajar pada program studi ini mengungkap bahwa kemampuan mahasiswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris dalam percakapan sehari-hari sangat rendah dan memiliki ketidakmampuan yang variatif sehingga dibutuhkan suatu teknik, strategi, dan model pembelajaran yang bisa merepresentasikan variasi kemampuan mahasiswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris yang simpel yang digunakan sehari-hari. Oleh karena itu, dilakukan pengabdian dalam bentuk pelatihan berbicara bahasa Inggris yang simpel melalui modifikasi dan pengembangan model pembelajaran Pipi-Ku dan Pipi-Mu. Tujuan dari pelatihan ini agar para mahasiswa semakin lebih bergairah belajar, senang karena memiliki kebebasan mengungkapkan bahasa Inggris yang dimiliki sesuai apa yang tertera pada gambar. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa bersemangat, termotivasi, dan merasa senang sehingga mereka berkreasi untuk mengomentari sesuai apa yang ada di gambar tersebut meskipun tata bahasa Inggris mereka masih kurang sempurnah. Dengan memberikan media gambar untuk dikomentari dalam bahasa Inggris secara bebas dapat menghilangkan rasa ketidakpercayaan pada diri peserta untuk merespon sesuai dengan pengetahuan dan pengalaman yang dimiliki sebelumnya. Selain daripada itu, model pelatihan ini secara tidak langsung menciptakan pembelajaran otonomi para peserta pelatihan.

This study focuses on sociolinguistics analysis towards the use of code switching produced by instructors in English teaching and learning (ELT) process. This study applied qualitative method and records the process of teaching English and interviews the instructors and students as a technique of this research to find the importance of code switching. The data were transcribed and analyzed use the concepts of Wardhaugh and Suwito about types of code switching and functions of code switching use the concept of Margana. The result shows that that there are 4 types of code switching used by instructors in English teaching and learning process. They are extern, intern, metaphorical and situational code switching.

This study aims to describe the most dominant types of errors made by students in transforming active English sentences into passive sentences and to find out the causes of students making errors. The subjects of this study were class XII students of SMAN 1 Bungku Tengah. The samples are 24 students were taken using convenience sampling. This study used qualitative research and data collection using tests items and interviews. The data were identified, classified, and analyzed based on surface strategy taxonomy of Dulay’s theory, namely error of omission with percentage 25,13%, the error of addition with percentage 6,81%, the error of misformation with percentage 65,45% which was established as the dominant error, and error of misordering with percentage 2,62%. Based on the results of interviews, the causes of errorness were, 1) Students did not understand the formula according to tenses, 2) Students were still confused about the use of "to be", 3) Students still lacked vocabulary.

The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not the use of Small Group Discussion (SGD) technique can develop speaking skill to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Bolano Parigi Moutong District. This research used a quasi-experimental research design with 77 students as a sample selected by using the cluster sampling technique. Additionally, the data of this research was obtained through a test which was divided into pre-test and post-test. The mean pre-test score for the experimental group and the control group were 48.90 and 55.77. The mean post-test score for the experimental group and the control group were 73.90 and 60.04. The data was theoretically analyzed by applying the t-test formula where the degree of freedom (df) is 75. The result of statistical analysis shows that the t-test value is 3.19 while the t-table value is 1.99. The result of the research findings shows that the t-test value is higher than the t-table value. It implies that the research hypothesis is accepted. It means that the use of Small Group Discussion (SGD) technique can develop speaking skill to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Bolano Parigi Moutong District.

The research employed Kaili folktales to increase reading comprehension of the ninth grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Palu. The primary research question is whether incorporating Kaili folktales through this environment my increase students’ reading comprehension. The research used a pre-experimental design in a quantitative approach that included a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The research population was the 87 ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Palu, with 29 students as sample from class IX B selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a reading comprehension test that was given as a pre-test and post-test. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 22. The results showed that using Kaili folktales increased students’ reading comprehension significantly, as evidenced by a higher mean score in the post-test compared to the pre-test (61.972>34.221). The p-value determined of 0.00, which is lower than the alpha value of 0.05, supported the conclusion that applying of Kaili folktales increased students’ reading comprehension statistical significantly. As a result, the researcher concluded that Kaili folktales might effectively increase students’ reading comprehension of the ninth grade at SMP Negeri 20 Palu

Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilatarbelakangi adanya temuan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan oleh para peneliti pada tahun 2022. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa materi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris pada Fakultas Hukum, Untad harus memperhatikan materi ajar yang sesui dengan disiplin ilmu mahasiswa dan perlu memperbanyak latihan-latihan peraktik berbicara bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan khusus hukum (legal purposes) dan juga diperkaya dengan materi-materi ‘legal terms’ yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa di masa akan datang setelah selesai kuliah. Hasil penelitian ini, kami menindaklanjuti dalam bentuk Pengabdian Desiminasi Hasil Penelitian. Pengabdian yang dilakukan adalah menyahuti keinginan mahasiswa, sehingga model pengabdian ini berupa pelatihan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan khusus hukum (legal purposes) kepada para peserta pelatihan. Tentu saja, pelatihan ini lebih banyak peraktik-peraktik berbicara bahasa Inggris yang simple melalui teknik ‘Information Gap Activity’ yang dikemas dalam model bermain peran (role play), dimana peserta pelatihan diberikan peran masing-masing dalam pelatihan ini. Tujuan pelatihan ini adalah untuk memotivasi peserta agar lebih bergairah belajar dan senang berbicara bahasa Inggris dan meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara, khususnya bahasa Inggris untuk kebutuhan-kebutuhan khusus bahasa Inggris hukum (legal purposes) dan legal terms. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa bersemangat, termotivasi, dan merasa senang dan bebas merespon dan menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang diberikan kepada parner simulasi bicara mereka. Peserta pelatihan berupaya mengemukakan pendapatnya dalam bahasa Inggris meskipun peserta sering menggabungkan bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia dalam merespon pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang ada. Selain daripada itu, pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang berkaitan dengan bahasa Inggris hukum (legal purposes) dan istilah istilah bahasa Inggris hukum (legal terms) sering terucap dalam merespon dan menanggapi pertanyaan yang ada. Pengabdi dapat mengatakan bahwa terjadi interaksi bahasa Inggris yang positif sesuai dengan peran masing-masing peserta.

The objective of this research is to prove that the use of English songs can improve simple past tense mastery used in recount text. The researcher used quasi experimental research design. The population of this research is the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Sigi, and the samples were the students of XI IPS 2 and XI IPS 4 with the total number of students is 53. The researcher applied purposive random sampling technique. The data were collected through the complement test that consisted of pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed statistically in order to find out the significant difference of the students’ achievement before and after treatments. The mean score of the pretest of experimental group is 33.78, while the control group is 32.04. The mean score of the posttest of experimental group 74.74, and the control group is 42.27. After analyzing the data t-counted (15.98) is greater than t-table (1.676) by applying 0.05 level of significance and 51 degree of freedom (df). Based on the result of research, it means that the hypothesis is accepted. Adapun maksud dari diadakannya kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat (abdimas) ini tentunya bermaksud untuk mengedukasi masyarakat daerah sekitar RT 009 Desa Gelam Jaya, Pasar Kemis, Tangerang dalam menjaga kebersihan dan kesehatan mereka di kala maraknya pandemi dan juga penyakit baru yang muncul yakni hepatitis dan juga dalam menjalankan salah satu misi dari kampus yakni Tri Darma Perguruan Tinggi. Di sisi lain, tentunya juga untuk dapat merasakan secara langsung terlibat ke dalam kegiatan atau lingkungan masyarakat baru sehingga dapat membantu masyarakat dan memfasilitasi masyarakat. Adapun tema kegiatan yang kita lakukan selama program Pengabdian Masyarakat (Abdimas) adalah “Edukasi dan Implementasi Menjaga Kesehatan dan Hidup Sehat di Masyarakat” yang dimana melalui tema ini kami memberikan penyuluhan tentang kesehatan dan bagaimana cara kita menjaga hidup yang sehat yang dikaitkan dengan menjaga kebersihan. Tentunya dalam hal ini, mahasiswa/mahasiswi dilibatkan sebagai problem solver, motivator, fasilitator, dan mengedukasi masyarakat sekitar dengan membahas bagaimana kita mengimplementasikan hidup sehat.
