International Journal of Business, Economics and Social Development (IJBESD) is published 4 (four) times a year and is the flagship journal of the Research Collaboration Community (RCC). Abstract

Although writing on entrepreneurial intuition has grown, researchers maintain that there is still much to explore. Current research has looked at the types of entrepreneurial intuition as well as the nature of cognitive intuitive thinking. The research problem explored is that entrepreneurial intuition should not be limited to the four types proposed. To address the entrepreneur’s cognitive intuitive strategies, it has been suggested that research should focus on what happens inside the mind of the entrepreneur. To pursue this further, we adopted a collaborative autoethnographic approach which consists of the self-study of an entrepreneur and the addition of a researcher to act as a reflective sounding board. Six story boxes tell intuitive stories of entrepreneurship. This research study finds that the cognitive, intuitive thinking strategies pursued by the entrepreneur extend beyond the four basic types suggested and two additional intuitive practices, namely sensorial intuition and intuitive praxis are proposed for this multifaceted concept. Used interchangeably, these intuitive practices are situational allowing the entrepreneur to act intuitively within various contexts. The recommendations are that these findings can be further investigated through quantitative studies.

Abstract

This study examines the capital structure, liquidity, profit growth, and financial performance of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the culinary sector based on local raw materials in Tasikmalaya City. A quantitative research approach with a descriptive-analytical method was employed, analyzing data from 33 sampled MSMEs. The findings reveal that the majority of MSMEs maintain a satisfactory capital structure, adequate liquidity, and positive profit growth. Furthermore, the financial performance of these MSMEs, particularly in terms of profitability, is commendable. The study concludes that there is a positive relationship between capital structure, liquidity, profit growth, and financial performance in these MSMEs, highlighting the importance of effective management in achieving business success.

Abstract

The optimization of investment portfolio is aimed at finding the optimal combination of each stock with the goal of maximizing returns while minimizing risk through diversification. However, the question is how much funds should be invested to achieve the minimum risk. One of the approaches that has proven effective in building an optimal investment portfolio is the Mean-Variance model. The aim of this research is to determine the weights of the optimal portfolio components with the minimum risk. The data used consists of stocks included in the LQ45 index for the period from February 2020 to July 2021. Based on the research results, there are five stocks that form the optimal portfolio, namely ADRO, AKRA, BBCA, CPIN, and EXCL. The allocated weights for each stock are ADRO 9.896%, AKRA 32.049%, BBCA 30.749%, CPIN 13.949%, and EXCL 13.357%. The optimal portfolio generated by the Genetic Algorithm method has a risk of 0.000472 and an expected return of 0.000492.

Abstract

This article explores Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in a globalized and innovative economy, looking specifically at the challenges and opportunities. The establishment and expansion of new firms provide a sizable amount of net new jobs. While high-expectation entrepreneurial enterprises and gazelles are usually found among innovative and technology-based new organizations, it is also essential that there be a sizable supply for them to play a significant part in economic growth. In other words, encouraging all forms of entrepreneurship is likely to increase the number of innovative, fast-growing enterprises as well as entrepreneurship. In many European countries, entrepreneurship needs to be encouraged. Findings show the crucial role the SME sector plays in the South African economy in tackling sustainable development. About 90% of all official firms in South Africa are thought to be small, medium, or micro-enterprises. The study concluded that one of the major contributions to the South African economy is the SME sector. The SME is not just viewed as a source of new jobs, but also as a sector that absorbs laid-off workers from both the private and public sectors.

Abstract

The objective of the study explore the idea of social accountability in governance, paying close attention to the interactions and synergies between information, citizen participation, and governmental responsiveness. In earlier research, scholars frequently made the implicit assumption that information paved the way for citizens' voices and, in turn, state responsiveness. Enhanced public action is a requisite, but not an adequate, precondition for social accountability in governance. Furthermore, a positive state response does not always follow the citizen's voices. Service providers and officials may choose to ignore the voice of the citizen, respond to it with retaliation, or, despite good intentions, be limited in their ability to respond due to a lack of capacity or resources. The study indicated that more effective than initiatives that only encourage localized change, strategic actions include a focus on creating an enabling environment and enhancing governmental responsiveness. Findings show that a positive governmental response may not always result from a citizen's voice, despite good intentions, service providers and officials may choose to ignore or respond to public complaints with harsh measures, or they may simply not have the means or capacity to do so. The study concluded that more effective than initiatives that solely support localized citizen voice, strategic actions involve a focus on creating an enabling environment and enhancing governmental responsiveness.Keywords: Social accountability, governance, initiatives, responsiveness, citizens, interactions

Abstract

Sepanjang tahun 2022, perusahaan telekomunikasi mengalami peningkatan laba bersih yang signifikan, sebuah tren yang terjadi di berbagai entitas dalam industri ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh financial metrics yaitu Current Ratio, Debt to Equity Ratio, dan Total Asset Turnover, serta pengaruh moderasi ukuran perusahaan terhadap pertumbuhan laba pada perusahaan subsektor telekomunikasi yang terdaftar di BEI. antara tahun 2019 hingga 2022. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling untuk memilih sampel sebanyak 9 perusahaan dari populasi sebanyak 21 perusahaan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji Moderated Regression Analysis Test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Current Ratio berpengaruh signifikan terhadap pertumbuhan laba, sedangkan Debt to Equity Ratio dan Total Asset Turnover tidak menunjukkan pengaruh signifikan. Selain itu, ukuran perusahaan memoderasi hubungan antara Current Ratio dan pertumbuhan laba, namun tidak memberikan pengaruh moderasi yang signifikan terhadap Debt to Equity Ratio dan Total Asset Turnover.

Abstract

One of the most significant challenges affecting the financial sector pertains to issues such as loan non-repayment, a weak legal framework, and ineffective strategies for lender recourse and bad debt recovery. This has particularly impacted microfinance institutions, leading to Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) that diminish profits through credit losses and direct write-offs for loans turning into bad debts, ultimately reducing the funds available for lending. These challenges have posed a serious threat to the stability and survival of some Microfinance institutions in Kenya. Recognizing this gap, the research delved into exploring the effect of structural alignment on the performance of selected microfinance institutions in Meru County Kenya. Employing a descriptive research design, the study targeted 530 individuals comprising of Senior Managers, Tellers/Field Officers, and Customers of the ten selected Microfinance institutions within Meru County. Using Cochran (1977) formula as adopted by Chaokromthong and Sintao (2021) the study came up with a sample size of 223 respondents who were selected randomly to participate in the survey. Primary data was collected using questionnaires, and the semi-structured instrument was pilot-tested by 20 staff from Key Microfinance. The questionnaires were delivered to the respondents' workplaces and subsequently collected for analysis, which involved both descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The study's findings were presented through tables, figures, and qualitative discussions for analysis.

Abstract

Health insurance plays a crucial role in providing financial protection and ensuring access to necessary healthcare services. The awareness of Indonesian society regarding the importance of health insurance continues to grow, as evidenced by a 22% increase in premium income according to AAJI data as of March 2023. Despite the benefits of health insurance, an increasing number of insurance participants raises risks for insurance companies. The Generalized Additive Models (GAM) P-Spline can overcome these problems. The non-linear relationship between claim amount with age, body mass index, and blood pressure can be modelled with GAM P-Spline. The formed GAM model with PIRLS unable to give a clear information of relationship between variables explicitly, but can be seen by the shape of the function of each predictor associated with the link function used.

Abstract

According to the assessment report from the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Strategy, it was identified that the staff members of the state corporations in Kenyan exhibited low performance levels, leading to a decline in employee satisfaction. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) audit report revealed disparities in race and ethnicity within the corporations. The primary objective of the research was to examine the impact of ethnic diversity on the performance of employees at the National Museum of Kenya. The research drew guidance from similarity/attraction theory. In the study, a descriptive cross-sectional survey design was employed. The total population comprised 550 employees at various personnel levels at the National Museum of Kenya headquarters. A population sample of 110 members was selected through Stratified random sampling. Data was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire administered to the chosen sample. To ensure the reliability of the instrument, Cronbach's Alpha was employed. Descriptive statistics was utilized for analysis of quantitative data, with the results presented through tables, figures, graphs, and prose. The research uncovered significant positive correlations between ethnic diversity and employee performance within the National Museum of Kenya. This underscores the importance of cultivating diversity when hiring personnel, as it contributes to enhanced performance. Furthermore, ensuring equal opportunities for promotion fosters employee motivation and dedication. To maximize the benefits of ethnic diversity, organizations should actively promote it and harness the collaborative potential of diverse work groups to improve both individual and organizational performance.
