Abstract

Blood transfusion is the process of transferring blood from donors to recipients. Before there is a blood demand for transfusion then the blood will be stored in the refrigerator. The longer the blood is stored the more red blood cells are destroyed because the blood is stored for too long will experience a shift curvadisosiasi oxygen towards the left. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of blood storage on hemoglobin levels on whole blood donor components before and after being stored for one week of Indonesian Red Cross Medan. This research was conducted with descriptive methodology Hematology Analyzer, The sample used for this study was the donor blood of 30 volunteer donors. The results showed that the mean hemoglobin level of blood before storage was 14.2 g/dL and the mean hemoglobin level of blood after being stored for one week was 16,4 g/dL.It is advisable to the laboratory staff to immediately conduct an examination after sampling so that no difference in yield and donor blood should be transfused immediately to the patient. there is a difference in blood tests immediately and stored for one week on hemoglobin levels It is advisable to the next researcher to use a larger number of samples so that the results obtained are more representative.

Abstract

Mountain springs is a source of clean water that is commonly used by rural communities to fulfil their daily water needs such as washing, bathing and cooking. The lack of clean water facilities in Indonesia is a problem that has not been resolved to date. The habits of the people in Tanjung Tulungagung Village is using mountain spring water for consumption as drinking water without boiling it first. Unboiled water has a tendency to be polluted by microbes, one of which is the coliform group. Coliform bacteria was known to cause several diseases, such as diarrhea, dysentery and cholera. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of water by observing the growth of coliform bacteria in mountain water that consumed by residents in Tanjung Village, Sendang Tulungagung District. The method used in this study is the Most Probable Number (MPN). The results of this study showed that the number of Coliform contained in repeat samples 1, 2, 3 & 4 respectively, were 900, 1600, 1600, 1600 MPN/100 ml, then the data was compared with the SNI issued by the National Standardization Agency. Based on SNI 3719:2014, the requirements for the Most Likely Number (APM) for drinking water are not more than <2/100 ml. The conclusion from this study is that the water used by the people of Tanjung Village, Sendang District, Tulungagung Regency is not suitable for direct consumption without being processed first.

Abstract

Candida albicans is a fungus that lives as normal flora in certain parts of the human body which can instantly become pathogenic if the patient experiences changes or decreases in body resistance. One of the diagnoses for the Candida albicans fungus is culturing, namely isolating it on gowth media such as Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA), but in some areas, it is difficult to use this medium because the price is quite expensive. Jackfruit seeds contain many nutrients needed by fungi such as protein, carbohydrates, and other minerals so that they can gow the Candida albicans fungus, this study aims to determine the difference in the number of Candida albicans colonies on SDA media and jackfruit seed modification media. The research method used a pure experiment. This research was conducted at the microbiology laboratory of the IKesT Muhammadiyah Palembang with a total of 32 samples. The results showed that the average number of colonies of Candida albicans on SDA was 112 CFU/mL media and jackfruit seed modified media 156 CFU/mL. Wilcoxon test obtained a p-value of 0.05 with a value of 0.000. This study concludes that there were differences between SDA media and jackfruit seed modification media.

Abstract

The growth of microorganisms requires media as a material consisting of a mixture of nutrients. used to grow microbes This study is laboratory experiment that aims to determine the protein composition on an old coconut water which is used as an alternative Mac Conkey Agar that can be used for growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi to characterized by non fermenter lactose and fermenter lactose colony. Research method is experimental test using inoculated on alternative media and Mac Conkey Agar as a control. Old coconut water media composition composed resemble for Mac Conkey Agar and media control that the order for Mac Conkey Agar. The bacterium is Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi as test bacteria fermenter non fermenter lactose and lactose. Analysis of data using T test results showed an old coconut water alternative media can foster better Escherichia coli when compared to Salmonella typhi, because there is no difference in the number and diameter of colonies significantly to media controls.  In the alternative media do not growth old coconut water Salmonella typhi the same controls. Based on the results of the research can be concluded that Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi can grow on alternative media of Old Coconut Water.

Abstract

Indonesia has natural wealth with its biodiversity, UNESCO also declared Indonesia as the 2nd megabiodiversity country after Brazil. The number of natural resources that have been used as a substitute for bacterial growth media encourages researchers to study and create alternative media to replace nutrient agar derived from nuabosi cassava and yellow cassava. This study aims to determine the media of nuabosi cassava and yellow cassava can be used as an alternative to nutrient agar media for the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study is a true experimental study with a posttest-only control design where the effect of treatment is analyzed using a different test, namely the one way ANOVA test. The results showed the average number of colonies growth of Escherichia coli bacteria on nuabosi cassava media was 530 CFU/mL, yellow cassava media 599 CFU/mL, and nutrient agar medium as a control was 435 CFU/mL, while for Stapylococcus aureus which was grown on nutrient agar media as control as much as 708 CFU/mL, nuabosi cassava media 434 CFU/mL, and yellow cassava media 103 CFU/mL. The results of the one way ANOVA statistical test on the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria on nuabosi cassava, yellow cassava, and nutrient media in order to obtain a p value of 0.059 (p > 0.05) this indicates that there is no significant difference, which means either yellow cassava media , nuabosi cassava media and nutrient agar media had the same ability on the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria, while the one way ANOVA statistical test for the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria on nuabosi cassava media, yellow cassava media, and nutrient media in order to obtain a significance value of 0.000 ( p < 0.05), it shows that there is a significant difference. Based on the results of the analysis on yellow cassava media and nuabosi cassava media, it can be used as an alternative medium to replace the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Jaundice is the result of increased levels of indirect ("unconjugated") bilirubin or direct ("conjugated") bilirubin levels in the blood. Indirect bilirubin does not function because while still in the womb, the fetus needs a lot of red blood cells, because the baby's lungs have not functioned perfectly, so the baby has not been able to process indirect bilirubin into direct bilirubin in the liver so that it can be excreted through feces and urine. Jaundice is a yellow discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes, and sclera caused by increased bilirubin production in the blood. The purpose of this study was to determine the picture of the results of indirect bilirubin examination in infants aged 0-14 days at Gading Medika Hospital in Bengkulu City. The research method used is descriptive quantitative analytics. This research was conducted at Gading Medika Hospital. The samples used were 42 samples Data analysis techniques are descriptive. The results of the study from 42 samples of infants who carried out indirect bilirubin examination were an increase with all the results of testing high indirect bilirubin levels in infants aged 0-14 days in 2022 at Gading Medika Hospital in Bengkulu City.

Abstract

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a disease due to infection caused by pathogens that enter the urinary tract, namely the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. The incidence of UTI is still quite common in Indonesia, there are around 90-100 cases per 100,000 data in 2020. Making a diagnosis of UTI, a urinalysis is carried out, namely analyzing a urine sample to calculate the number of leukocytes and erythrocytes in the urine. The purpose of this study is to analyze the total leukocytes and erythrocytes in the complete urine of urinary tract infection (UTI) patients at Santa Elisabeth Hospital Medan 2023. This type of research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional study design and a sample of 40 people. The results show that most of the patients are female, 26 people (65%) and 14 men (35%). An increase in the number of leukocytes> 4/LP by 40 people (100%) and the number of abnormal erythrocytes (increased) > 2/LP by 37 people (92.5%) and a small proportion of normal erythrocytes 1-2/LP by 3 people (7 ,5%). From the results of the study it can be concluded that women are more at risk due to differences in the anatomy of the female and male urethra and UTI sufferers experience an increase in the number of leukocytes as a marker of inflammation and an increase in the number of erythrocytes due to damage to the glomerular membrane throughout the urinary system.

Abstract

Glucose is the most important carbohydrate because almost all carbohydrates in food are converted to glucose for metabolism. White sugar, palm sugar and honey have different glycemic index values ??so that there is an increase in blood sugar levels with every intake of these three sugars. Several factors can affect the increase in blood glucose levels including age, hormones, insulin, emotions, psychological state, variety and amount of food consumed and physical activity performed. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of increased blood sugar levels before and after 30 minutes of administration of white sugar, palm sugar, and honey to TLM students at STIKes Santa Elisabeth Medan in 2023. The method used was an experiment with a one group pretest-posttest design. Total population of 38 people using total sampling technique. Data analysis using Independent sample T-test. The results of the bivariate analysis showed a p value of 0.000 so it could be concluded that there was a comparison of increased blood sugar levels before and after administration of white sugar, palm sugar, and honey to TLM students at STIKes Santa Elisabet Medan in 2023.
