Abstract

Generally, vegetables cultivation in tropical riparian wetland is conducted only one times per year simultaneously or after rice cultivation. One of constrains of cultivation in tropical riparian wetland is low adoption to technology which can be used by local farmers during dry season. The objective of this research was to introduce result of research to local farmer directly and examine the local farmer’s adoption about the technology based on research to apply in tropical riparian wetland, Pemulutan, South Sumatera. Based on this research, results showed that farmers' interest in cultivating vegetables during the dry season is still low, but it has a chance to be improved. Alternative solutions through watering and adjustment of environmental conditions or adaptation through the selection of cultivation locations and the selection of various types of vegetable crops have been carried out by farmers. However, the application of mulch has not been practiced by farmers in tropical riparian wetland for vegetable cultivation during the dry season due to limited information received, considered as capital intensive, and the sociocultural aspects of the local community.

Abstract

The use of rhizobacteria is an alternative control in suppressing plant disease attacks. The purpose of this study was to obtain indigenous rhizobacteria which have the potential as antagonist agents of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense. Sampling was carried out randomly selected on endemic lands. Isolation of rhizobacteria using serial dilution method and its antagonist test against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense uses the dual culture method. The isolation results from 3 banana cultivars (kepok, raja sere, and mas) obtained 24 rhizobacterial isolates with different morphological and physiological characters. The antagonist test results showed that 8 rhizobacterial isolates were able to suppress the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense and is not plant pathogenic.

Abstract

Pakcoy as a type of vegetable that we often encounter on the market. This plant can be cultivated easily, and can be consumed directly or processed into complementary vegetables in meatballs, chicken noodles, and other types of food. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers will cause soil damage in the long term. Reducing chemical fertilizers can be done by giving rice washing water, because usually when washing rice, the water used is just thrown away. In fact, this rice washing water waste has the potential as liquid organic fertilizer. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of rinsing rice washing water on the growth and yield of pakcoy plants. The research design used a randomized block design (RAK) with a single factor, namely the rice washing water rinse, namely C0 = control, C1 = the first rinse of rice washing water, C2 = the second rinse of rice washing water, and C3 = the third rinse of rice washing water. The parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, plant diameter, fresh root weight, and total fresh weight. The results showed that rice washing water rinse had no significant effect on all observed parameters. However, C3 treatment has the greatest value for all observations compared to the control treatment, C1, or C2.

Abstract

Lettuce is one of the most popular vegetables from various groups, because it does not need special preparation to enjoy it immediately. Its cultivation is relatively easy and does not require special techniques, making lettuce can be grown in polybags or hydroponically. Rice washing water, which is usually not utilized, actually has the potential as liquid organic fertilizer. Besides being practical and environmentally friendly, liquid organic fertilizer can be applied easily. This study aims to determine the effect of the appropriate application time interval for giving rice washing water on the growth and yield of lettuce. This research was conducted in August-October 2020 using polybags containing soil: manure: husk (1: 1: 1). The design used was a single factor completely randomized block design (RAKL). The factor is the application time interval for giving rice washing water with 4 levels, namely: W0 = without giving rice washing water (control), W1 = once every 2 days, W2 = once every 4 days and W3 = once every 6 days with a dose of 50 ml polybag-1. The results showed that the time interval treatment with washing rice water had no significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, diameter, fresh root weight, and total fresh weight of lettuce plants. However, the treatment of giving rice washing water at an interval of 6 days (W3) once showed a better value than without treatment, the time interval for giving rice washing water once every 2 days or 4 days.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the mycorrhizal potential for food security in Indonesia. The analysis is based on literature review using secondary data as a source of information. Food productivity has an important role in the lives of many people. Meanwhile, on the one hand, we are faced with immeasurable human growth and land functions that have begun to shift to settlements over time. One way to increase food in Indonesia is to empower marginal lands. Indonesia has a marginal land area that has not been optimized due to problems with the soil, poor nutrients and poor water management. Of course, to overcome this, it is necessary to have an agricultural cultivation approach so that these lands can be utilized. One of the approaches to agricultural cultivation is the application of biological fertilizers, namely mycorrhizae. From several literature studies, it is found that mycorrhizae can increase plant production by increasing nutrient uptake in marginal lands.

Abstract

Many microbial populations are found in the rhizosphere, including in the soil layer that follows the plant root system. Rhizosphere soils contain more bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes than non-rhizosphere soils. One of the antibiotic producing bacteria has been isolated from the rhizosphere. The purpose of this study was to isolate and characterize the biochemistry of antibiotic producing bacteria and to evaluate their superiority in inhibiting other types of bacteria. Three microbial isolates were isolated from the rhizosphere of winged bean (K) and banana (P1 and P2) plants. All isolated isolates were tested for antagonism with E. coli, Bacillus, and Pseudomonas bacteria on Nutrient Agar (NA) media to determine antibiotic-producing bacteria. Furthermore, identification and characterization of colony morphology and a series of antagonism and pathogenicity tests were carried out. The three isolates had irregular colony forms (isolates K and P1) as well as oval shapes (isolate P2), flat surface, glossy texture, milky white or cream color, and irregular edges. The antagonism test showed that isolates P1, P2, and K could inhibit the growth of bacterial colonies E. coli, Bacillus, and Pseudomonas, respectively. In the pathogenicity test, the three microbial isolates did not show symptoms of necrosis in tobacco leaves after 2 days of observation.

Abstract

Mustard greens (Brassica rapa L.) is a vegetable crop that is widely consumed by Indonesians. The use of quality seeds can increase productivity. The quality of seeds can decrease during the storage period. The process of quality degradation is a natural and unavoidable process. One method of artificially fast aging of the seeds is by electrocuting the seeds using chemicals. Depression of seeds with alcohol can be used to test the deterioration of seeds due to poisoning caused by alcohol. This study aims to influence the ethanol / alcohol concentration and the duration of agitation on the viability of caisin seeds. This study used a factorial treatment design (2x5) in a completely randomized design (CRD) with four replications. The first factor is the concentration of ethanol (20% and 25%) and the second factor is the duration of the stroke (30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 minutes). The results showed that the ethanol concentration and the calming time had a significant effect on the viability of the caisin seeds. The viability of caisin seeds decreased to 45.5% with ethanol pressure for 150 minutes at a concentration of 20%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui tingkat partisipasi petani dalam pengembangan metode SRI. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Desa Suka Makmur Kecamatan Bulang Tengah Suku Ulu Kabupaten Musi Rawas. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei. Penarikan contoh dilakukan dengan metode acak berstratifikasi, dengan cara mengelompokan populasi ke dalam dua kelas berdasarkan luas lahan yang diusahakan dalam kegiatan pengembangan budidaya padi dengan metode SRI. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan petani menerima program pengembangan budidaya padi dengan metode SRI dengan baik, terlihat dari jumlah petani dengan nilai partisipasi tinggi pada tahap perencanaan program, yaitu sebesar 56,67 %. Petani melaksanakan program budidaya padi dengan metode SRI dengan cukup baik, dilihat dari jumlah petani dengan nilai partisipasi sedang pada tahap perencanaan program, yaitu sebesar 83,33%. Pada tahap pengawasan dan keberlanjutan program, petani dinilai berpartisipasi sedang, dilihat dari 73,34% jumlah petani yang dikelompokkan dalam partisipasi sedang. Sementara tingkat partisipasi petani dalam program pengembangan budidaya padi dengan metode SRI adalah sedang dengan skor rata-rata 88,6 pada tahap perencanaan; 81,2 pada tahap pelaksanaan; dan 85,1 pada tahap pengawasan dan keberlanjutan program.

Abstract

Tanah entisol memiliki masalah terhadap sifat fisik dan kimianya. Sehingga membutuhkan pupuk organik cair dapat meningkatkan aktifitas biologi, kimia, dan fisik tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan metode pemberian pupuk organik cair limbah rumah tangga yang tepat terhadap serapan P dan hasil tanaman jagung manis (Zea mays var saccharata sturt) pada tanah entisols. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada Juli - September 2020 di Kelurahan Beringin Raya, Kecamatan Muara Bangkahulu, Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian disusun menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) faktor tunggal. Perlakuan dalam penelitian ini adalah kombinasi dari metode aplikasi POC dan konsentrasi POC. Metode aplikasi POC meliputi disemprotkan ke daun, disiram ke tanah, serta disemprtokan ke daun dan disiram ke tanah, sedangan konsentrasi yang digunakan adalah 100 ml/L, 200 ml/L, 300 ml/L, dan 400 ml/L. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode aplikasi POC yang disemprotkan ke daun dan tanah dengan konsetrasi 300 ml/L adalah yang paling tepat. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari P-jaringan tertinggi yaitu 0,40%, serapan P tertinggi yaitu 1,58 g, tinggi tanaman tertinggi yaitu setinggi 233,67 cm, bobot brangkasan kering terberat yaitu 395,90 g, diameter tongkol terbesar yaitu 67,20 mm, dan bobot tongkol berkelobot terberat yaitu 450,67 g. Namun hasilnya tidak berbeda nyata dengan aplikasi POC yang disemprotkan ke daun dengan konsentrasi 100 ml/L air. Hal ini dibuktikan pada nilai hasil tinggi tanaman 205,67 cm, diameter tongkol 61,88 mm dan bobot tongkol berkelobot 408,67 g. Sehingga aplikasi POC yang disemprotkan ke daun dengan konsentrasi 100 ml/L air lebih baik dari segi ekonomis dan efisiensi.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui potensi pertanian dan kendala pada sektor pertanian di Musi Rawas. Sektor pertanian sebagai potensi utama perekonomian masyarakat menjadikan sektor ini memiliki peran untuk kesejahteraan masyarakat secara umum, namun potensi ini harus dikelola agar berkesinambungan, sedangkan kendala harus dibenahi agar kemajuan dibidang pertanian bisa terus dilakukan. Pertanian musirawas memiliki potensi yang baik di Sumatera Selatan. Komoditas pangan unggulan yaitu di Musi Rawas terdiri dari 6 yaitu jagung, padi ladang, ketela rambat, kacang hijau, ketela pohon dan padi sawah dan komoditi karet dan sawit sebagai komoditi unggulan perkebunan. Kabupaten Musi Rawas memberikan Kontribusi tertinggi Domestik bruto yang berasal dari pertanian sebesar 31,55 %. Namun dalam proses pengembangan sektor pertanian ini mengalami kendala dalam pengelolaannya yaitu minimnya petani milleniall/muda yang akan melanjutkan sistem pertanian ini. Kondisi ini juga berpengaruh pada peranan teknologi yang tidak bisa diterapkan dikarenakan kurangnya wawasan petani di sebabkan rendahnya pendidikan para petani yang dominan lulusan sekolah dasar. Penggunaan pupuk yang masih berfokus pada pupuk dan pestisida anorganik mengakibatkan biaya yang dikeluarkan oleh petani tidak sedikit. Kondisi pertanian yang tidak berkelanjutan juga tidak bisa diterapkan apabila tidak dilakukannya pemupukan yang berimbang antar pupuk organik dan anorganik. Salah satu program yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengatasi kendala ini adalah melakukan Penyuluhan dan pemberian wawasan agar petani dapat melakukan dan menerapkan pertanian berkelanjutan dengan menggunakan pupuk yang berimbang.
